Lovin the vids Hugh, think starting w the wood rather than the wheat is beneficial. Something so small can make such a difference in your early game and coudlve helped you get to the ports sooner. Ideally you're porting (4:1ing) wood and trading wheat on a board like this, just something i noticed at the start. Also props to you for the consistency in uploads, I'm sure it's a lot of work but all of us here love it and seems to be paying off with how fast the channel is growing
the setup is epic. Just think the 3/6 wheat is much stronger, because with road settle you get 8 ore and already have woodport all game. whereas like this the settle is the 3 wheat and no ore.
Hey Hugh! Love your content. I noticed you talked about editing eating up a lot of your time. If you update your channel's "About" page with contact information, I can send you a link to an auto-editor I made for BuddyCatan (the comments section gets filtered for external links). It might help you out if you're interested!
Red's placement pressures wheat port and sheep port so Hugh needs to settle there before red. Wood port is uncontested - black has a dead road and red points his road to the left so he can wait.
SPOILERS BELOW! ... ... ...I can't believe you actually almost pulled that off, holy crud, lol! What a game. Sometimes it's worth forgetting about the best, most optimized strategy and playing just to have fun and try wild and crazy things. Great video!
I think you messed up by not taking some of those trades early game. You were basically being offered cities and you declined because you wanted the settlement first. Which I get, but the settlement would come easier with more production
If only you stayed out of chat at the end like you wanted at the start lol
Not getting the wood port first instead of the wheat port was a blunder. Also offering 2 for 1s straight up instead of starting with 1 for 1s was bad.
I kept thinking that black got maybe too much wood from you this game but it's crazy that you still got this close playing only two resources. ggs!

Wow the comeback at the end by you form 2 to 9 points was amazing!
Great game, good call going for the meme setup.
Great content ! Would also love to see a new series aimed at beginners, showing very common mistakes.
What a fun setup that was. Brutal rolls in the first half of that game though. Could have gone very differently with just a tiny bit more luck.
The problem with those fun setups is that you get all the fun during the setup, and then it's sadness and misery for the rest of the game!
tell me about it!! they're just so slow to start

Can you explain why expand to the wheat port first instead of the wood port with 2 wood already in hand and wood having higher production?

The trade at 11:59 pretty much guarantees a city on your next turn with a single wheat roll. Just take the trade and drop a road
The 8's 🤮. Enjoyed this one though . A little more luck would've helped for sure.
yup! it's the grossness of the heavy port setups! lol
Okay I get your on vacation and all but I’m getting sick of watching dandydrew bro
I don't blame you
