Not saying it’s isn’t possible, but it must be extremely difficult to handle being a pj and medical school at the same time. He must get interrupted a lot while in medical school. If anyone has advice on how this is possible I’d love to listen. I’ve been thinking about doing this once I get my bachelors.
That's what I want to do. Finish my bachelor's, become either a PJ or SF Medical Sergeant active duty and apply to med school and then go reserves or Guard while in med school.
If I were you, I'd just go the guard route and be a bum for a little until you deploy and then go to med school. As far as which way you go, it's definitely a little more difficult going the guard route. You can get a REP-63 contract which will guarantee you a shot at selection right after basic, but should you make it to the q course, you won't be guaranteed an 18D slot, as there are other SF specialties. Or you do a year or so in the guard, then apply to SFRE, if you make it, you'll go to selection already knowing what MOS you'll get. Or you can just go straight in trying for PJ. If you're dead set on active duty, and you're truly passionate about medicine and rescue, I'd go Air Force PJ route.
This individual received his PJ training and experience while on active duty. He is now in medical school as a Reserve member. He most likely has a very complex and challenging schedule but is making it work with close coordination with his Reserve unit and his medical school commitments. The PJ career field is going to be a more time demanding career field in the AF Reserve than the non-special operations career fields available in the AF Reserve.
You need two years of active time to gain access to the GI bill, but a full 4 years in order to receive the 100% benefit of the GI bill Aka you get paid more if you do 4 years active, and the gi bill will cover your full time school
Hi Michael! When you join the Air Force Reserve you can serve at a base close to where you currently live and work and we have several bases in Texas. You can find the closest to you here: afreserve.com/where-to-serve/ If you are interested in a certain job, you may seek an assignment at a base further away depending on availability and other factors.

Will it be that the way for just the first year or pretty much all 6 years. I'm interested in being a PJ? Confused if should go Active or Reserves and be part time in school.
Please call us at 1-800-257-1212 so we can go through the basic eligibility criteria. Once we determine you meet the basic criteria, we will put you in touch with your AF Reserve recruiter who can talk with you about specific timelines for PJ candidates. If you decide to move forward, he or she will also be able to set up an interview with actual PJ personnel who can give you first-hand information.
This is cool and all but what about the non binary stuff? Why doesn’t he have purple hair and why didn’t he say he was a he/she? Honestly his aggression is making me uncomfortable. Better go to my safe space in the army.
Wow, thanks for the insight. I was wondering about what medical routes open up after becoming an active PJ!

Same.
Well maybe the medical school he is in most likely have a more laid back schedule.
well pjs are also already trained in emt school so they probably already are familiar with some concepts in medical school
Like he said, he transferred from active duty to reserves for medical school.
@@Bilbus7 it’s still a constant interruption believe it or not. Reserves and guard are all trash time wasters.
Way to go. How about a follow up. PGY - Residency training. Thank you for you service.
I was fortunate enough to job shadow one of the guys in the video and it was awesome seeing them jump.

What if I live in Texas but want to be a PJ in the reserve?
Now I’m really thinking about PJ 🤔🤔
The best of the best PJ #1
I live in Vegas. Can I join as a PJ reservist and stay in Vegas? Or do I have to relocate to where there is a Air Force Reserve Command Unit?
Look at all PJ Reserve/National guard RQS units and STS. I don't believe any are in Vegas, but there are in Arizona & California.
Is aerospace medical service a good start to training on becoming a pararescue jumper?
No, because then you will have to cross train which your chances of being a PJ go down by a lot. - From what I got in the PJ Reddit.
How does it work to be in the reserves and also being in medical school?

So awesome I'm going for it.

Air Force Reserve I thought there was a base in KY? Or is that for the ANG? Thanks!
@@micah9676 that's Guard and that's Special Tactics. A little different from a Rescue Squadron but still has PJs
Does the Guard also get access to the GI Bill or just reserve and active?
All PJs do because of their long pipeline but only guard and active. Reserves is partial

National Guard and Reserve actually deploy more
How do you know
@@GracieTurts because they have a state mission. The busiest squadrons are National Guard. Because they have a state/Civil SAR mission as well.
