If you ever smelt Thai Oud from likes of EO you would know that it is sweet fruity drying down to stewed fruits. You were expecting sunken Indian Oud. Funny that I bought Tabac Dore instead of Oud Balsam.
I know Thai oud is sweet... but you can have more than 1 type of oud ... i was expecting more than a sweeter version of Tabac Dore... at that rate I would have just bought that 🤷🏻♂️
I really enjoy this perfume. I own Thai oud oils and this definitely contains Thai oud. I view OB through the lens of an oil lover versus perfume lover.
Your opinion is similar to mine, the quality of the ingredients is incredible, top notch but I feel that lately they are concentrating more on sourcing the ingredients than on taking care of the composition and make them have body/soul, applies for ALD, Bortnikoff and Ensar. btw I think many of us get confused, oud balsam is not an oud with tobacco, is an oud with resins (I would say oppoponax or myrrh), the tobacco is very mild or no existence in my skin at least.

How can you be sure the ingredients are of high quality? I’ve never even understood what people mean by “quality” in this context. Can’t mean “naturalistic” unless we’re prepared to say realistic > impressionistic. As far as I can tell, “high quality” just means “smells good to me.”

Ah sorry to here this Ram ,I totally get how disappointing a blind buy from a favorite house can be ,think we’ve all been there over the course of our fragrance journey ,sad but true I kinda had my doubts on this line to be honest,however if the Oud is in The abundance stated it will of course over time in the bottle intensify and alter in composition some what and stamp its dominance on the fragrance. May well change enough to interest you more . My advice hold on to this one for at least a year. You’ve nothing to lose but possibly a lot to gain .appreciate the honest reaction and review ✌️🙏👍
I got the sample set and loved all three, I smell oud in all three, but the oud is in a complementary role, not a dominant role. After testing all three multiple times over the past months I would pick Sunrise and Set as my favorite. My favorite Oud monster so far is EOs’ Notes From Underground, it’s Oud, on top of Oud, with some more Oud! Great review as usual! Cheers!
I was more than a little surprised that a couple of samples of the other 2 were not included with your order Ramsey. Bad form from feel-oud considering how much you highlight their products. Insult to injury. Im a bit apprehensive about the arrival of my 3 samples now. Not to mention the import taxes. Hopefully they do not end up on the shelf next to my Indonesian Oud. I do wonder if we are missing a trick with Beauty and the Beast? ..It is a powerful quality oud fragrance.

I just got my bottle a few minutes ago. And your review is spot on. Sweet chocolaty opening but settles down with tobacco and clean oud (not challenging by any means). Tabac Dore is better than Oud Balsam. Also the new Bortnikoff releases - Oud Al Sultan and Le Voyage oriental is better than this. I purchased sunrise and set as well. It’s a good one but I don’t get any oud even though Indian oud is mentioned. Lot of orris but that’s it.
Well, I blind bought full bottles of all 3 fragrances so you can imagine my disappointment 🤣 I actually think Oud Balsam is my favorite of the 3. Sunrise and Set is a solid release, and I don’t think Oud de Grand is quite for me. I will spend some more time with them all before drawing any firm conclusions but it’s fair to say my socks have not been blown off. I too need to stop blind buying. Def love Habanos. It's a great masculine, not super sweet, but still very heady and decadent, tobacco frgarnace. I think I like tobacco dore just a little better due to the oud addition but both are great fragrances.

Got my Oud de grand 3 days ago. And tried my friends Oud balsam. I like Oud de grand. It should be called Jasmine de grand tho. I own 2g of Ensar Jasmine oil. And must say pure Jasmin oil smells a lot like Oud de grand. Witch on one hand means that they have used very high quality jasmine oil, and by that math it is way better value than buying Ensar jasmine. On another hand it means that they didn't do too much of "perfumers work" creating a composition. Oud de grand is a very elegant and posh fragrance. Would never guess it's an Areej or Bortnikoff. More like something I would expect from Roja. Oud balsam is just a sweeter more mass appealing version of Bortnikoff Tabac dore with worse value and performance. Its like Tabac Dore DNR made by a teenager. His son maybe? I imagine Russian Adam has never smelled Tabac dore before or he would have never signed off on this. I don't do much layering, but because I felt that Oud de grand is missing some oud to make it work I tried layering it with History of Indonesian oud. And I must say this combination makes it a 10/10 fragrance for me. A bit sad I need to make my own "blending' of sorts to "finish" the product. I don't get much Oud in any of them. A bit more in Oud de grand. But none of them have the right to have "Oud" as a key word in the name imo. Can't say it's a bad release when I managed to get a 10/10 experience from my purchase with some tinkering. But from two oud legends under oud distiling brand I guess we all expected more of an "oud experience".
Just like everyone I was expecting more oud, more animalics and at least a bit of a challenge specially with Oud Balsam and Oud de Grand..the initial spray of Oud Balsam was the best part then it almost instantly disappeared, Oud de Grand is definitely a jasmine bomb, very calming and smooth tho, I get the oud at the beginning but it almost disappears quick and it’s not challenging or anything, last but not least sunrise and set I get sweet citruses up top and the oud appears in the dry down but it’s also not a challenging oud by any means it’s rather shy and playing in the background. Overall if you’re expecting so much oud you’re gonna be disappointed, if you’re looking for something nice easy to wear made with high quality ingredients I think you would enjoy the three of them as I personally did after being disappointed with the fact that these are not challenging ouds the way I like my ouds..nice easy to wear experience..have a good one!
Maybe the intention behind this new brand was to cater / appeal to the broader masses, hence less complex and challenging. I personally haven't tried any so this is just a guess.

Interesting….I really enjoyed this fragrance. I do agree with the sweetness part, it’s little too sweet at opening. Thing that sold me was the balsam part that comes out after an hour or two. Also agree on oud part, very light in oud. Sunrise & set is similar way with even lighter on oud than this one. Oud de grand however, does have that challenging oud opening. It’s a jasmine bomb though!!

I got all three fragrances in this morning. Oud Balsam-sweet and fruity tobacco scent. Almost no oud that I can detect. It’s like a tobacco store that also sells fruit that is directly across the street from a chocolate factory and underneath the building is the Indian oud oil buried. There is no structural integrity to the oud, nothing to make it stand up and announce itself. It’s just a smooth seeet tobacco fragrance. Not worth the 300, but still a solid fragrance. I can get solid lots of places for less money. Oud de Grand is just a. Straight up Jasmine mega bomb. I get almost nothing else. Maybe I need to wear it more; but jasmine is about all I get. I happen to love jasmine so I’ll wear it, but again, there is no strong declaratory oud. Sunrise and sunset will be next to test.
These are bummers man... i cant speak to the other two as Oud Balsam is all I have smelled so far but what you say about Oud de Grande seems to be what everyone else is saying 😮💨
@@RamseytheRam I agree. They are fine fragrances, but not for those two men. It had to be better in my opinion. I will send you a sample of the other two, so we can be disappointed together. I sprayed Sunrise and sunset about 15 minutes ago and it’s lemon, cardamom and a bit of patchouli so far. No oud.

It seems Civet de Nuit has been Adam's best collaboration effort. I only own a 10ml, which I love. Wouldn't mind having a full bottle, though I don't need it.
First of all... OH NO. Second of all.. there is no such thing as wooden cap tabac dore:) it's 2021 release so metal cap only. I am waiting for my bottle of oud de grand in fear now... :D
@@RamseytheRam older bottles of tabac dore have different box. Old boxes are like areej older boxes (siberian summer). New boxes are fancy a bit longer version of Fragrance du boise box.
@@RamseytheRam that you are not being honest and that’s where you are consistent. (Being totallly honest). There are perfumes that I like which you may not and vice Versa. I’ve never been that enamored with oud varieties other than animalic ones and Indian ouds are the ones that are animalic. Hence I was circumspect when I ordered oud balsam. But I ordered sunrise and set (which has Indian oud) so that even if I was disappointed with oud balsam I would have sunrise and set to offset that. But I don’t smell any oud at all in the sunrise and set.
I wonder if we all meet the perfume that breaks us of our blind buying. Olympic Orchids Night Flier was mine. So fantastically awful that it woke me up as if from a stupor. Shame you can’t sample stuff from these guys because all the bottles will be sold out if you wait, right? That whole business model is irksome to me. Spend $300 to roll the dice? Won’t do it. I should have purchased a sample set... I dont hate the fragrance... its just if I knew what it was I would have tried to have Lee find me a vintage bottle of Tabac Dore 🤷🏻♂️
@@RamseytheRam For a while there, you had to buy a new Areej le Dore the moment it went on sale, or you’d miss out. Has that level of hype not carried over to these new ones? After a few years of exploring perfumes-not nearly as long as you, though-most stuff I try is going to land in the “Smells Alright, I Guess” bin, so the odds of blind buying a real winner are poor.

I agree! Tabac Dore is a 2021 release, wood cap wasn't there anymore as per my knowledge! I tried Tabac Dore from a metallic cap bottle! It was a beast!! Last great Bortnikoff release!

BIG DISAPPOINTMENT. I bought the entire collection. Thinking, these being the very first extrait version from the house. 2 BIG master perfumers. I am really very sad. I believe the house of ENSAR OUD has been really consistent with their releases. And I have started enjoying products from the house of JINKOH STORE lately. This release has been a HUGE DISAPPOINTMENT for me. It’s a very skin scent from very beginning.
Couldn't have said it better , I can see the Thai oud being used but where's the 100 year old wild aspect of it ? Smells much more like a young plantation Thai oud , not challenging whatsoever , just an overly sweet tobacco fragrance inferior to Tabac Dore
@@RamseytheRam Yeah that's just what I get from it, I know all noses will interpret it differently, but I also get exactly what you're getting from oud Balsam (a friendlier tabac dore)... so maybe our noses are on to something. either way, nothing groundbreaking =/ , for me it gives citrusy oudish thing as Aquilaria Blossom does.. honestly, to my nose, they smell almost identical.

I recommand you keep an eye on Parfum d'Empire, they are gonna release an oud fragrance (real oud) in few months and Corticchiato never misses.

Apparently they are all metal cap versions ... no wood cap with tabac dore... just older and newer bottles of Tabac Dore

Interesting….I really enjoyed this fragrance. I do agree with the sweetness part, it’s little too sweet at opening. Thing that sold me was the balsam part that comes out after an hour or two. Also agree on oud part, very light in oud. Sunrise & set is similar way with even lighter on oud than this one. Oud de grand however, does have that challenging oud opening. It’s a jasmine bomb though!!
I am just sad because I was expecting this to be fragrance of the year... looks like for me its still Les Abstraits Des Cendres

Just smelled Bengal Rouge from Liz against a Bortnikoff and honestly.. Well you can guess. Liz is on it.. ))

I got all three fragrances in this morning.
Oud Balsam-sweet and fruity tobacco scent. Almost no oud that I can detect. It’s like a tobacco store that also sells fruit that is directly across the street from a chocolate factory and underneath the building is the Indian oud oil buried. There is no structural integrity to the oud, nothing to make it stand up and announce itself. It’s just a smooth seeet tobacco fragrance. Not worth the 300, but still a solid fragrance. I can get solid lots of places for less money.
Oud de Grand is just a. Straight up Jasmine mega bomb. I get almost nothing else. Maybe I need to wear it more; but jasmine is about all I get. I happen to love jasmine so I’ll wear it, but again, there is no strong declaratory oud.
Sunrise and sunset will be next to test.
These are bummers man... i cant speak to the other two as Oud Balsam is all I have smelled so far but what you say about Oud de Grande seems to be what everyone else is saying 😮💨
@@RamseytheRam I agree. They are fine fragrances, but not for those two men. It had to be better in my opinion. I will send you a sample of the other two, so we can be disappointed together. I sprayed Sunrise and sunset about 15 minutes ago and it’s lemon, cardamom and a bit of patchouli so far. No oud.

It seems Civet de Nuit has been Adam's best collaboration effort. I only own a 10ml, which I love. Wouldn't mind having a full bottle, though I don't need it.

@@RamseytheRam older bottles of tabac dore have different box. Old boxes are like areej older boxes (siberian summer). New boxes are fancy a bit longer version of Fragrance du boise box.
The minute I smelled oud balsam I was sure that you were going to come down heavily on this.

@@RamseytheRam that you are not being honest and that’s where you are consistent. (Being totallly honest). There are perfumes that I like which you may not and vice Versa.
I’ve never been that enamored with oud varieties other than animalic ones and Indian ouds are the ones that are animalic. Hence I was circumspect when I ordered oud balsam. But I ordered sunrise and set (which has Indian oud) so that even if I was disappointed with oud balsam I would have sunrise and set to offset that. But I don’t smell any oud at all in the sunrise and set.
Yeah it would have been obvious right? I just expected so much more... i think I will take this as a lesson... no more blind buying for me

I wonder if we all meet the perfume that breaks us of our blind buying. Olympic Orchids Night Flier was mine. So fantastically awful that it woke me up as if from a stupor.
Shame you can’t sample stuff from these guys because all the bottles will be sold out if you wait, right? That whole business model is irksome to me. Spend $300 to roll the dice? Won’t do it.

After a few years of exploring perfumes-not nearly as long as you, though-most stuff I try is going to land in the “Smells Alright, I Guess” bin, so the odds of blind buying a real winner are poor.

@@RamseytheRam Ah, I see. I think lots of people got into fragrance during the pandemic-I did-so maybe a bubble has burst as lots of those people lose interest/move on, leaving fewer people feverishly refreshing their browsers to buy a $300 perfume when it drops.

anyway, the other day I saw a video of russian, adam explaining about these new creations with Bortnikof, because of the real discontent or frustration of people who have acquired the new creations?? explaining what they are about or justifying them? I have nothing from this duo and I can't comment.. Russian Adam is my guru!!!! I agree! Tabac Dore is a 2021 release, wood cap wasn't there anymore as per my knowledge! I tried Tabac Dore from a metallic cap bottle! It was a beast!! Last great Bortnikoff release!

BIG DISAPPOINTMENT. I bought the entire collection. Thinking, these being the very first extrait version from the house. 2 BIG master perfumers. I am really very sad. I believe the house of ENSAR OUD has been really consistent with their releases. And I have started enjoying products from the house of JINKOH STORE lately. This release has been a HUGE DISAPPOINTMENT for me. It’s a very skin scent from very beginning.

Couldn't have said it better , I can see the Thai oud being used but where's the 100 year old wild aspect of it ? Smells much more like a young plantation Thai oud , not challenging whatsoever , just an overly sweet tobacco fragrance inferior to Tabac Dore

@@RamseytheRam Yeah that's just what I get from it, I know all noses will interpret it differently, but I also get exactly what you're getting from oud Balsam (a friendlier tabac dore)... so maybe our noses are on to something. either way, nothing groundbreaking =/ , for me it gives citrusy oudish thing as Aquilaria Blossom does.. honestly, to my nose, they smell almost identical.
