as someone who has more kills on stasis hunter than any other hunter subclass combined, mask of fealty is a much-needed breath of fresh air for it. there's only so much duskfield spam i can handle, and i've never really been a fan of dodge-focused exotics. it might need some numbers tuning (or maybe just withering blades do) but its a new gameplay loop that lets you be a lot more mobile and a lot more crowd-controlling.
honestly, one thing i've found for a more fun stasis hunter gameplay loop is to not focus on an exotic, use something "neutral". i've made a banger build i've been taking into raids and out of all exotics, it uses *mechaneers tricksleeves* with tinasha's and a heal clip heliocentric. it gives me infinite frost armor x8, constant melee charges, frequent dodging and while i'm not really using my grenade much, the build still works very well.
Withering blades are too weak. They only kill red bars on destination difficulty; in any significant content they only slow. They need a buff to be viable in anything other than base strikes.
I do agree that shattering crystals and frozen enemies with the blades doesn't seem much more impactful than just shooting them. So the way I've been using it I haven't been worrying about shattering stuff with the blades. I would say the big advantages of this exotic come down to a) the melee energy refund per hit b) the instant freezes and c) the instant crystal creation. Run velocity baton and youll be getting back to back transcendence. And when youre in transcendence your shurikens are recharging extremely fast while still getting all the benefits of mask of fealty. So you can think of it as an upgrade to transcendence too. Also has easy near-perma frost armor uptime for tougher content with whisper of rime, extremely potent anti-champ, & huge shard generation for the team.
i literally cant take it off. i love it so much. you get the value of four withering blades (instant freeze due to dropping a stasis crystal, which would normally need two withering blades to freeze). on top of that you get energy back from withering blade hitting literally anything (enemies, walls, ground), after using two charges you get one charge back. so thats three withering blades, with the value of six. not even talking about grim harvest either lmao. this exotic is so goated with the sauce

Try using TOW coldsnaps instead of glaciers. The final shape buff to them makes them chain twice with crystals on each one. Will freeze an entire crowd to chuck a blade into - that's how I've been using it in GM

I love how most of the issues with the build is that “it’s so over optimized it becomes bad” tracking with the melee. Using the melee first, like it all sounds funny
Sneaky’s build is the one I use with a few adjustments: Ager’s Scepter and Mask of Fealty in a double special build. Lots of Stasis Shards with Grim Harvest, and Winter’s Shroud for looping Slow, and Elemental Charge to get charges for Special Finisher. You can use Aberrant Action with Pugilist and Incandescent for your secondary, but can freely switch out depending on the activity. You need to use a fragment which makes your melee apply slow while you have frost armour, then your melee will freeze with one hit, spawning stasis crystall beneath enemy and shattering it immediatly. That's what makes this build shine
This exotic is fun with Ice breaker. Don't have the catalyst yet, but you can go HAM with ignitions Also, think the exotic requires you move slower than you'd otherwise think: one blade gets off a freeze between the slow it produces on the enemy and the crystal it generates NEXT to the enemy (in PVE). That sets you up for either: Blade 2 which gets you a big chunk of melee back, or... Icebreaker shot on the crystal or frozen target for an ignition Just realized that on Prismatic, or during a season w/ AB sniper, this sets you up to stun all 3 champs
Using this on prismatic with lost signal and icebreaker has been my preferred way of running this mask. The weapons sustains themself being so ammo efficient. And the blades just helps with icebreaker’s regeneration and controlling ads.
Here's a fun idea, you should use Salvation's Grip with that exotic, that way you can freeze a group of enemies from it and by throwing a withering blade at them, it could cause a massive shattering damage.
Running this on prismatic is 100% the better play. Facet of command and awakening allow you to have your winter’s shroud dodge and withering blades back instantly. Add on purpose for additional survivability, protection for protection, and ruin because duh and you can run through GM’s easily w this build.
This build goes well with salvations edge (with catalyst) More crystals more freeze and constant armor up time. Add a chill clip tinashas having bunches of fun even in higher content!
Ive been enjoing this build since the fix, it actually gives the stasis hunter something more interesting as the rewelan build. Its also not so overly uril spammy as the more recent prismatic builds, meaning i can use my guns for a change ^^
This with Ice Breaker and Angle Rake (and now Tinashas, well I switch between them often) has been the first time I've enjoyed a double special build. Only melees I love on Prismatic Hunter is the stasis and strand melees and I love that this exotic came out to pair with exactly that.
As someone just starting to get into higher level content, I can see where using it isn't very beneficial. I personally prefer to use it on prismatic, rather than full blown stasis and it performs to my liking there. That said, I will say it's very content specific and definitely more for mobbing than bossing (obviously), but the point still stands. You'd expect it to be an engage, and it can be, just have that dodge ready, but the fact that you need to be close quarters to make it an engage can be tilting. Appreciated the vid, Datto!
Hi strimmer and anyone else that it may concern - if you have Icebreaker I would recommend giving this a try and on Prismatic instead of Stasis proper. Insane amounts of crystals for instant explosions + ignitions, more ammo from the catalyst, Facet of Ruin and Balance will pulling double duty, and Transcendence gives you so many more melee charges. Brought this into GMs and dungeons and it performs very well. I loved it so much more once I swapped to Prismatic.
you make some of the best videos on youtube, i've been subscribed since before D1 came out and im still a big fan. i don't play destiny anymore but i click from time to time.
I've actually been using this on prismatic with winter's shroud and GPG. The new Playlist auto makes the build work, and I pair it with a perfect fifth ergo sum for the light side transcendence energy.
This exotic shines when your whole fireteam is running stasis. I did a entire 50 wave onslaught on expert with a warlock and a titan (all rocking the new exotics) and the action was amazing 🤩
I've been liking Blastwave Striders a lot, sure you need the Exotic Stasis launcher for optimal uptime. But that too can be great for teams who are special or heavy ammo dependent. Learned of a new tech with it too, picked that up from another vid. Blastwave produces a projectile and you can detonate that early to shotgun Chaps and Yellow Bars. Just Shiver Strike right out of a slide and all those stasis crystals group up into a more manageable cluster.
It's really REALLY good, I recommend running it on stasis hunter with Whisper of Rime, Fissures, Refraction, and Conduction. The 5th Fragment is a flex slot, my favorite being Impetus (insta reload all weapons) and Shards (duskfield spam, go brrr). For the aspects, you need to use Winter Shroud and Grim Harvest. Procc everything with Tinasha and you got Radiant Dance Machine on crack.
I think this exotic shines more on prismatic in transcendance, I have had a lot of instances where my transcendance will last what feels like an abnormal amount of time because of how many targets the withering blades track to and damage. All the fragment options synergize a lot better I feel like, such as the one making you radiant for melees.
to me when they dont die in one hit its better. since they freeze theres 2 sources of more withering blades from the crystal and the frozen enemy which in turn slows others around it and may kill lower health enemies around. and one way to counter the issue of not having frost armor a lot of the time is to use salvations grip which gives frost armor on a kill and sends out withering blades when it breaks a crystal so you dont always need a melee active to spawn them.
I use it with prismatic as an easy way to get trascendence energy and also some form of crowd control on hard content. I don't expect the exotic effect to kill everything in the room (Prismatic titan goat), but it should give me enough room to use my guns more.
I found some fun with it in combination with Ice Breaker, although I did only play strikes and I don't have the catalyst. My problem with the tracking though is that sometimes the enemy I want to damage will instantly shatter the crystal so I can't damage it with the ignition/shatter, like I wanted. (Ignitions cool) I treat it like an ignition on demand. I do realize however that in regards to champions a shatter and ignition is redundant.
Incredibly underwhelmed by this exotic. Made pretty much the exact same build BUT forgot to change my artifact mods to stasis - wasn't performing well at all. If an exotic needs artifact mods to not suck, then it needs some serious re-tuning. I feel like I'm just tickling things with withering blades.
Give it the "Second Chance" treatment. "Stunning a champion refunds the melee charge." This could cover overload and unstoppable champs and make it more viable in all levels of the game.
End of the day, it looks like a fun gimmick exotic that provides a new play style, with a maximum skill ceiling that isn't that high, but it still is gonna be fun to use. Personally, I'm chilling with stuff that isn't endgame charting, I'm down to just make more shurikens than I know what to do with
This was recorded/written before tinasha's mastery was added to game? Because that gun adds so much to this build Freezing targets without using a single ability Also chill clip feeds the aspect
I've been running this with glacier grenades and salvations grip and it's pure chaos. You can fill a room with crystals and then just spam your melee and watch the gains. It's mostly just a fun build for mid tier content, wouldn't bring it into a gm.
Haven't watched the video yet but wanted to put my thoughts down before I forget. I think the place where this helmet REALY shines is in combination with cold snap grenades with touch of winter. Problem is, coldsnap grenades are are kinda the worst stasis grenade on hunter. This helmet basically just makes your touch of winter cold snap into an additional melee charge and even then, isn't great 90% of the time. Like, why use this helmet when I could use renewal grasp.
I wear this exotic all the time. I’ve never noticed the withering blades flying out when destroying any crystals with my withering blade. I think the exotics still broken lol.
Notably Whispher of Hedrons gives +60 to Mob, Res, and Rec - you freeze stuff all the time in this build (and most stasis builds). Free stat points FTW.
Honestly, I’ve been using this thing on prismatic with Monte Carlo for when I don’t need to dish out boss DPS and I’ve been enjoying it more than I expected. Really just to change things up a bit lol
Use fealty with icebreaker. I PROMISE. You’ll change your mind. This exotic is the hunters BEST way to spam crystals and freeze targets which makes the world into an icebreaker heaven.
Kickstart mods are iffy with multiple choices anyway, so best to avoid melee kickstart for this build. I've been having a blast with mask of fealty with touch of winter and coldsnaps
I thought Glacier Grenade was kind of a trap, Coldsnap feels like a much more natural fit. I've been running with Exuvia and Icebreaker, though now I'm messing around with Tinasha's/Icebreaker now as well.
Unpopular opinion I feel this exotic is much better on prismatic for blade spam. One gets the freeze, second gets the gigantic shatter, monte or dodge for melee energy, prismatic to make shurikens go brr.
If they coded the strand melee and made it blue with the effects of stasis I might use this. Or if they made the stasis shurikens 30% wider and maybe gave them some tracking.
not using this with tinasha's is a blunder, makes winters shroud uptime super high and prints tons of shards, easy to get frozen enemies to hit with the shurikens when comboing things like tinashas and slow dodge. coldsnap also shone in this build for me - i didnt like throwing the shurikens at crystals as much as i liked throwing them at frozen enemies.
You said you use your weapons more in the build well that's kind of not using the exotic to its full potential. The point of the exotic is withering blades so your build should be based around melee. Melee build + Tinashas Mastery is where the build shines
Prismatic version is way better with vs baton, you can transcend fast and when you transcend it’s where I have the most fun with this. Put it with the god roll chill inhibitor and outbreak perfected to spam supers and it’s like a dopamine rush every 30secs.
Sepulcher. Lmao. Datto doing his best Aztecross impression. How does he pronounce Chitin? 😂 “Fellas and ladies thank you ALL for coming and watching….and as always…
IMO all of the pure element subclasses desperately need 6 fragments. Stasis is a bit better because it usually gets 5, but almost every other non-prismatic subclass gives you 4 fragments and it all feels weak. Also, I think rending and conduction need to baked into the game at this point. It wouldn’t break anything but it would feel a lot better.
This exotic really comes in handy when you try to obliterate yourself from existence via an obelisk in an empty void.

This exotic is fun with Ice breaker. Don't have the catalyst yet, but you can go HAM with ignitions
Also, think the exotic requires you move slower than you'd otherwise think: one blade gets off a freeze between the slow it produces on the enemy and the crystal it generates NEXT to the enemy (in PVE). That sets you up for either:
Blade 2 which gets you a big chunk of melee back, or...
Icebreaker shot on the crystal or frozen target for an ignition
Just realized that on Prismatic, or during a season w/ AB sniper, this sets you up to stun all 3 champs
Run Maven’s build with the stasis sidearm with chill clip and you’ll have blades forever
It looks neat. 10/10 for fashion.
This with Ice Breaker and Angle Rake (and now Tinashas, well I switch between them often) has been the first time I've enjoyed a double special build. Only melees I love on Prismatic Hunter is the stasis and strand melees and I love that this exotic came out to pair with exactly that.
Super clip transition was super smooth lol 😂🔥
The maven build with Tina’s is pretty good
This mask with Tinasha's Mastery and Ice Breaker with Catalyst is absolutely brutal.
it honestly sounds like the perfect build for me for when I want to just have some fun shatterskating around
9:39 sick transition
to me when they dont die in one hit its better. since they freeze theres 2 sources of more withering blades from the crystal and the frozen enemy which in turn slows others around it and may kill lower health enemies around. and one way to counter the issue of not having frost armor a lot of the time is to use salvations grip which gives frost armor on a kill and sends out withering blades when it breaks a crystal so you dont always need a melee active to spawn them.
I've had fun with pairing it with the Wicked Implements scout rifle and all of the seasonal stuff makes it super fun.
I use it with prismatic as an easy way to get trascendence energy and also some form of crowd control on hard content. I don't expect the exotic effect to kill everything in the room (Prismatic titan goat), but it should give me enough room to use my guns more.
LOVE the match cut at 9:40
It allows for the highest dps hunter prismatic build outside of celestial. It's very good.
Glaciar grenades are pure bait, use coldsnaps with touch of winter and you'll be freezing adds forever
I found some fun with it in combination with Ice Breaker,
although I did only play strikes and I don't have the catalyst.
My problem with the tracking though is that
sometimes the enemy I want to damage will instantly shatter the crystal
so I can't damage it with the ignition/shatter, like I wanted. (Ignitions cool)
I treat it like an ignition on demand.
I do realize however that in regards to champions
a shatter and ignition is redundant.
Personally, I'm chilling with stuff that isn't endgame charting, I'm down to just make more shurikens than I know what to do with
I've been loving running this Verglas Curve, not the best build but it is so much fun
Its pretty fun in PvP, you can make instant perches to shoot from rather than wait for your nade.
This was recorded/written before tinasha's mastery was added to game? Because that gun adds so much to this build
Freezing targets without using a single ability
Also chill clip feeds the aspect
Pairing this with the New chill clip rocket sidearm is very nice, at least for onslaught.
I do know about anyone else, but I have been enjoying shatter dive a lot more lately.
Feel like not running this with chill clip was an interesting choice, you get both sides of the exotic to proc like 100% of the time
Ice breaker turns the build into a demon setup
absolute banger when used with Tinasha's
And icebreaker with cat
Went into onslaught with it. I'm in love
I wear this exotic all the time. I’ve never noticed the withering blades flying out when destroying any crystals with my withering blade. I think the exotics still broken lol.
Using the Stacy rocket pistol with this is definitely the play
Notably Whispher of Hedrons gives +60 to Mob, Res, and Rec - you freeze stuff all the time in this build (and most stasis builds). Free stat points FTW.
I’ve been using it as a “ranged shatter dive” build in iron banner this week.
Honestly this is just way more fun as a set up for a shaderdive build.
Kickstart mods are iffy with multiple choices anyway, so best to avoid melee kickstart for this build. I've been having a blast with mask of fealty with touch of winter and coldsnaps
i love using prismatic GG and sylish exe, throw ur blades, go bye bye, and throw a big ol BOOM, and repeat
I thought Glacier Grenade was kind of a trap, Coldsnap feels like a much more natural fit. I've been running with Exuvia and Icebreaker, though now I'm messing around with Tinasha's/Icebreaker now as well.
Ice breaker and the new stasis rocket sidearm make this build busted asf. Also buried bloodlines for devour
Mask with icebreaker has been sm fun
Unpopular opinion I feel this exotic is much better on prismatic for blade spam. One gets the freeze, second gets the gigantic shatter, monte or dodge for melee energy, prismatic to make shurikens go brr.
The calabans hand of stasis
There are 2 states for a new hunter exotic:
mediocre
disabled
This exotic feels extra bad when compared to Rimecoat on Warlock-especially Prismatic Warlock. That build is soooo good.
Prismatic version is way better with vs baton, you can transcend fast and when you transcend it’s where I have the most fun with this. Put it with the god roll chill inhibitor and outbreak perfected to spam supers and it’s like a dopamine rush every 30secs.
Mask of Fealty is an exotic I want to like, but it just doesn't feel like it hits hard enough in lower endgame content.
“Se pole chur” I’m dead
Sepulcher. Lmao. Datto doing his best Aztecross impression. How does he pronounce Chitin? 😂
“Fellas and ladies thank you ALL for coming and watching….and as always…
Really confused why you didn't use this with a stasis exotic like scepter or even the bow. Thats what really takes it up a notch
good enough for me, i love the way it feels
Agreed with others in here that prismatic ups the high end viability substantially by giving you ability spam without requiring kills
I mean shatter has always been a cascading effect. More enemies=larger chain reaction of shatters
My opinion has arrived
IMO all of the pure element subclasses desperately need 6 fragments. Stasis is a bit better because it usually gets 5, but almost every other non-prismatic subclass gives you 4 fragments and it all feels weak.
Also, I think rending and conduction need to baked into the game at this point. It wouldn’t break anything but it would feel a lot better.
