    We've decided to turn our kitchen dining room area into a more cozy and casual breakfast nook. I've always wanted to try my hand at DIYing a custom (semi) built in dining bench, so I used some inexpensive IKEA refrigerator cabinets to make one for our new breakfast nook. I love how it turned out & I'm sharing the how to here!
    The cabinets I used: www.ikea.com/ca/en/catalog/pr...
    The foam I used: amzn.to/2pAjaQv
    The fabric I used: amzn.to/2G3oYw8

    Suggestions: Cut the 2x4 to shorter lengths so that the cabinets have a slight overhang above the base, particularly in the front to form a toe kick. Cover the exposed 2x4 with baseboard. Cut a rectangle of plywood for the top of the bench as IKEA's pressboard construction sags under weight and with time. Add casters or furniture gliders to the bottom of the bench. Add bumpers to the back of the unit to protect your walls. If you are machine sewing a seat cushion cover, use an iron to press the seams smooth after stitching.

      Hi! I am thinking of doing sth like this but I have no idea how. Why do we need casters? Why do we need overhang? Could you pls tell me ?

    • @amonadi2
      @amonadi2 3 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @@oeendrilaif you go into your kitchen and stand in front of your sink you will understand the toe kick. Your cabinets don't go straight down to the floor. There is essentially enough space for your toes when you are leaning against the counter.
      The slight indentation makes it look a bit more visually appealing as well.

    Yes, I have seen this done before. Because I was a kitchen and bathroom designer at the Home Depot and we did all kinds of fun things with cabinets. Yours turned out great! ♡
