One big tip regarding combat: When selecting a skill with an elemental effect or debuff, look at the enemy's portrait. You'll see how effective your skill would be WEAK > NORMAL > STRONG > VERY STRONG > IMMUNE > ABSORB Be very particular against bosses, they would be typically immune against crowd control (sleep/stun) and may even absorb your elemental attacks
one thing id love explained is what skill/spells/attacks scale off of what for example, how i understand it right now, ONLY slashing damage scales off of attack? and ONLY spell-damage off wisdom. while breaths and non-specific damage doesnt scale off anything at all? healing seems to scale off wisdom? maybe? does harmful effect accuracy scale off wisdom like in mainline-dq? and what about harmful-effect-evasion? does that scale off wisdom? they really dont explain this well in the game. Id love to find some explanation or some spreadsheet online, but i cant seem to find anything.
in the predecessors, they had it all straight-forward: stuff that scales off attack had a fist-icon, stuff that scales off wisdom had a lightning icon. now, we have a sword for both?
Support Your Allies seems to be broken. It won't cause your monster to use skills like Squelch to cure poison. I had a Stump Chump with it and he refused to use Squelch during the Rank F coliseum.
@MegaLunan ya I think when you look at them support is mostly focus on buffs while anything dealing with healing removing status or healing hp/mp would be a heal move. From the video I guess don't use mp will have your monster punch it out hm so I guess my high physical monster with low mp should be put on that than.
This is gonna sound crazy, but early game you should focus on boosting the attack stat because that makes it easier to scout monsters. If you're struggling to scout before doing the big hitter quest, find monsters that have "attack booster" and spend all your points into that because if you max out certain abilities, they get upgraded. How i usually run a kit is just stats... i have a rank E monster doing 100 to 140 damage in an area i dont think im not supposed to be in yet. Lol Also if you have monsters that share abilities, and say the ability is 85, you only need to get the monsters skill up to 44 both ways. That means that when you synthesize and you want a higher tier skill you only need half of the skill points for both parents.
Tl;dr Focuse on stats. Put all points into stat skills until mid game Skills can be upgraded, if you synthesize monsters, both parents with the same skill can use half the skills points to upgrade a skill (if the skill can be upgraded)
So what does the demo transfer over to the full game? If it transfers everything, then I plan on playing that for a bit before I get the full game. Or should I get the full game if it doesn’t transfer everything? I looked it up and I still don’t know which is true.
It only transfers your monsters and that's it. So just play the full game because I had strong monsters in the demo with three skill trees but when they transfered. They only had their basic skill trees and it didn't register the ones I had scouted already in the demk
Yo Ed, do you think you could play the old Dragon Quest Monster games? I really would like to see some videos on it, if you want. I’m currently playing through all the old ones before I play the new one. I had them for a while and never finished the first one on DS. Like I’m still going to play the new one, it would be cool to get your thoughts on the past games and compare them to this one.
That's dragon quest monster joker. It's a different series. Dqm has 2 very old games in English on gbc, but they got a 3ds release, but only in japan. There is a fan translation for those games and dqmj3, which never released outside Japan, too.
@@lancefillmore9980 I know it’s Joker, I just wanted to see if he’d cover it. Granted I bought them and have a hacked 3ds, so I have access to the third game. I heard a lot of people enjoy the third installment a lot. How much better is it compared to the previous games?
The combat in this game sucks. Mainly because I can’t play it how I want to. For some stupid reason it won’t let me choose what attacks to attack with or who to attack. It does everything for me and it’s frustrating because this game is too easy. I just died on the last foe in the stupid F round thing because I can’t choose who to focus or heal. Coming from a Golden Sun Veteran, I can honestly say that this game kinda sucks. 1/10
You can give your monsters direct orders outside of tournaments with the "orders" option. While in tournaments, you should try messing around with tactics to have your monsters perform the actions you want (hopefully). There's also the "set instructions" option in the pause menu where you can selectively choose how frequently a monster uses an ability when acting on their own. This can help your monsters in choosing the right ability during tournaments.
Its easy yet you died in F round? You can control normal battles as mentioned above. Tournaments test your abilities to make monster teams that can run yhemselves using tactics. You can also influence the battle by changing tactics. Not to mention also being able to swlect which spells are most likely to be used from set instructions in the menu. Lots of options

This comment is actually the whole reason I came to this video.

I agree, I’m confused on this too
Plz let me know if anyone finds this info
good question
Harmful effect resist is based on the monsters innate resistance to debilitation as seen in the monster trait menu

Squelch might count as a Focus on Healing

@zerokura coming back to this just to say you're so right lol.

Use oomph on your allies
Even better with oomphle, party attack buff
Quick question. Why does bernie look like rashavak from dq4 but have a duderent name?
Great video! Will you put out a review for the whole game?
Yup I've been binging it like crazy hoping to do it for tomorrow morning

@@chr1s415 Dang that sucks. Thanks for the heads up.
Skip the demo!!
Shame PlayerEssence didn’t watch this video before posting his “review”…

I liked dqmj3 better than the 3ds remakes of dqm 1 and 2

@nicholasalexander9866 is very different. Like you can ride monsters
And there is a huge post game in dqmj3 pro
It’s turn based 🥹
