I have a 2005 crf450x that is having similar issues. It ran fine, but now it now won't start. Cleaned the carb, but still no luck. Tomorrow, i will check the valves.
Great video mate, I also have an 09 450x and checked mine and a couple were tight so I left it and thought it's ok coz they aren't getting loose, but you said they get tight and need adjusting. How come they tighten up? Thanks
The valves tighten because the valve face is closing on the valve seat thousands of times per minute. Eventually it wears, causing it to lose clearance. Tight valves will cause problems, possibly burning the valves.
Hi Tom, I really hope you don’t mind if I ask you a real quick question? Have you ever worked on The Royal Enfield Himalayan? Just wanted to get your thoughts on it?
Did you ever figure out what was wrong with this bike? Mine sounds similar and I have a feeling the carb needs more adjusting...or at least I'm hoping it's that and not valve related.
Hotdog down a hallway😂 thanks for tollerance and the easy explanation. I think I'll also clean my carb
Always good to keep up on maintenance, hope it goes well.

Pretty common for the tight valves to cause difficult starting, hope you get it figured out.
Great post Mr Tom. Hope your having a great Independence Day weekend.
Thanks, best wishes to you as well sir!
Nice vid
Thank you.

One of my good friends got one not long ago but I have not had a wrench on one yet. Seem to be a decent machine for light adventure touring.
Hey Tom, thanks for the reply, I’m looking at getting one or maybe a CRF250L just not sure. I test drove the REH and it was real nice but Felt heavy.
Valve adjustment is "just a drag"
Carry on.
FTBY59 Mike D I need a drum “da dum tiss” after that one! 😂😂
Oh, I also snapped my valve cover bolt off and heli coiled it haha
It’s pretty common, small bolts and aluminum head that they thread into.

Just adjusted the valves and cleaned the carburetor on this one, ran good after that.
