    • @DM-kv9kj
      @DM-kv9kj 7 หลายเดือนก่อน +3

      It wasn't "ironic", it was deliberately done as one of their many desperate attempts to pretend George Lazenby was remotely like Sean Connery. They should have left out all those references to the Connery movies, they don't somehow make Lazenby seem more like Connery's Bond, they just keep reminding you how much better Connery was. I love OHMSS generally as a Bond movie, but Lazenby was a piece of cringey cardboard struggling to pull off being James Bond. He was very lucky to have gotten (still to this day) one of the finest Bond movie scripts and productions that all did everything possible to make him look decent in the part. It wouldn't have happened this way, but had Connery been given this exact same script and production, the film would have been 5 times as good just from that. Sadly, they just kept wanting to camp up Connery's movies and make them all about space rockets and silliness. Connery would have jumped at the opportunity to work on this same level of production and screenplay too.

      To be specific, "The Avengers" as a comic book debuted in 1963. "The Avengers" TV show debuted in 1961 in the UK, but was not shown in the USA until 1965.
      Therefore, Diana Rigg (as Emma Peel) was the first female sidekick American audiences saw, but Brits were familiar with her predecessor, Cathy Gale…who was played by Honor Blackman, shooting around her role as Pussy Galore in this series.

    Definitely one of my favourite Bond films, quite possibly even my favourite of the older ones. It's got the best action scenes in the series so far with those glorious ski chase sequences, as well as some brilliantly tense sequences like the safe-cracking scene. John Barry's score is absolutely phenomenal, the definitive best soundtrack in the entire series, with a theme song so iconic Michael Giacchino would later use it as a reference for the theme to The Incredibles. This version of Blofeld is by far the best one, Telly Savalas being suave and cool, while also incredibly menacing. And above all, the romance between Bond and Tracy - one of the best Bond girls, played to perfection by Diana Rigg - makes this a really special entry, a beautiful heartfelt love story that really gets you to buy the idea that these two are truly in love, only to then rip it away in one brutal devastating moment. OHMSS was definitely a contentious film when it first came out, but it's one that definitely gets better over time, and the fact that directors like Christopher Nolan have labelled it their favourite Bond film tells you just how special this one is

This film did have a different director than the previous films (which didn’t all have the same director: Terence Young had directed DR. NO, FROM RUSSIA WITH LOVE, and THUNDERBALL; Guy Hamilton directed GOLDFINGER; Lewis Gilbert directed YOU ONLY LIVE TWICE), in fact it was a first time director, Peter Hunt, who had been the editor of all the previous Bond films and also second unit director for GOLDFINGER, THUNDERBALL, and YOU ONLY LIVE TWICE. It’s not terribly uncommon for film editors to shift to directing, or for some directors to also edit their own films, in collaboration or on their own. George Lazenby got this role by literally showing up to the audition in cosplay as Bond and lying about having acting experience. He’s clearly not as natural as many but the movie itself is so good that it lifts his performance. This is my favourite Bond film cos it’s got a lot of heart.

  • @richiecabral3602
    @richiecabral3602 7 หลายเดือนก่อน +9

    So, they made a documentary about it a handful of years ago called "Becoming Bond", that's fun, but the short version is that George Lazenby was an Australian male model who didn't have any acting experience, and basically conned his way into getting the part, but once he had the part, he basically wasn't that into it and bailed, and then Sean Connery ended up coming back anyways. I don't think many people really liked his one appearance as Bond, but he seems like he was a pretty cool dude in real life.
    Oh, and if you think this Bond was forward, wait until you get to Roger Moore. I like Roger as Bond, and in general as an actor, but in those movies, it's almost like damn! He can pull it off because he's Bond, but if he wasn't it would come off as pretty creepy. Sean Connery never had to work that hard for it.

      Moore had a lot of experience in these types of roles. He was one of Maverick's (James Garner) cousins, and played Simon Templar (the Saint) in a TV series for several years.

      That actually helped him keep the part. Lazenby confessed to the director that he had no acting experience, who laughed and told him that fooling two ruthless producers like Brocolli and Saltzman during the casting process was proof enough that he knew how to act.

    Diana Rigg, the second Avengers (TV series) star to be in a James Bond movie (Honor Blackman was the first). And Joanna Lumley, who's also in this film, would go on to star in The New Avengers. All three women co-starred on TV with Patrick Macnee who would go on to appear in a Bond film himself (in A View to a Kill).

    Lazenby had the look. I think he could have developed into a good Bond and I truly wish he would have been in Diamonds Are Forever. When I was younger I didn’t like this entry as much. Perhaps it lacked what I was used to seeing in Bond. Now it is a personal favorite of mine not just on the series but of all time.

    This was George Lazenby's first and only Bond film he had ever made, because the producers didn't like any of his ideas and that he tuned a $2 million dollar contract with EON productions, which he would regret later on.

    Hey, I don't recall if you've mentioned it in the other Bond films, but the music in these movies is iconic. Some of the themes were big hits on the charts, this film had a rare instrumental for the opening title. The ending song by Louis Armstong is so appropriate though. You should check out the 'Best of Bond' CD (or streaming audio) and play it while you're driving....

    Hi Ashleigh. That card game you're fascinated by is called Baccarat. Whoever is dealing(and it changes during the game) is the House and plays against one opponent. Anyone around the table then bets on whether the House or the player will win the hand. The object is to reach a combination equalling nine(like Blackjack tries to make a combination to get a 21). This game is quite popular in Casinos around the world...but hasn't really caught on in American Casinos(it can be found, but is not nearly as popular as Blackjack and Poker).
