Considering that McGuire came out in 1996 and was all over the place on vhs, dvd, bluray, cable TV, network TV...and was part of the cultural landscape for decades (for so long, that Show Me the Money became a cliche), that she never heard of JM says a lot about why she is so willfully clueless about...everything. Never seen anything like it.

To be honest, i didn't get the gag either the first time i watched "The Spy who shagged me".
You didn't miss anything. I saw that movie after hearing about it for five years. Totally not worth it.
This movie had a great trailer. The Spy Who Shagged Me came out in 1999 a short time after Star Wars, Episode 1: The Phantom Menace and the initial trailer for this made you think it was a trailer for The Phantom Menace. Then, after we see that it's not, the trailer ended with the trailer voiceover saying "If you see one movie this year see...Star Wars. BUT, if you see TWO movies, see Austin Powers: The Spy Who Shagged Me!"
Can confirm. I even went to see both on the same day because I was a teenager and why not.
In a similar vein, the best trailer for a film was around 2001, going through a dark gothic manor, building up to a shadowy figure in the window.

The Spy Who Loved Me is the next Bond movie after The Man With The Golden Gun. It also introduces a legendary Bond villain that appears in the next movie, Moonraker. There’s plenty of fun left in the Bond franchise so do please continue it 🙂

Mini Me is from The Island of Dr Moreau. Marlon Brando had a mini for no apparent reason and there is a scene in that movie where Brando is, in all seriousness, playing the piano with his mini playing a mini piano on top just like in this movie! Highly recommend watching that craziness and the documentary made about it. Hollywood legend. Also, as teenagers we all loved these movies without ever having seen James Bond films.

My parents' friend Dennis Wilson appeared in this movie as one of the guys playing an instrument behind Burt Bacharach (because they were members of the band that ALWAYS back up Burt in his shows). Dennis received a gold record for being a performer on the soundtrack. He said the day they spent on set was amazing and that Mike Meyers was constantly cracking jokes between takes.

@@whovianhistorybuff That was "Boogie Nights". Heather was buck naked (except for the skates) throughout most of that movie. Her character was "Rollergirl", and the movie was mostly about the porn industry. A girl needs a gimmick to stand out in the immense crowd of porn girls.
Heather has a perfect body, and she was perfectly cast as "Rollergirl". I once saw a Penthouse Pet of the Month doing a promo at the tobacco shop in the Renaissance Center. She was casually dressed in jeans and a nice blouse, but was still incredibly hot. She had a rare body shape, very thin, not skinny, and very curvy in the right places. Far less that 1% of girls have that precious shape. Heather has it. Any woman who does should be delighted to show it off. Heather shows it off.

Mini-Me looks really good in the fight scenes because Verne Troyer was originally a stuntman. He worked as a stunt double for small children.
Fun fact-- He was originally Amish until his family left the faith. He was the only Amish star in Hollywood to the best of my knowledge.
I've seen this movie so many times, but it has been YEARS. Soooo many funny quotes. Dr. Evil has always been my favorite, and I do a pretty good impression of him if I do say so myself.
I still know all the words to this version of "Just the Two of Us". I love the look of confusion on Rob Lowe's face during that scene 😂
Intresting note on this, when the movie was being made, Volkswagen did not have a convertible beetle. The producers of the film had the effects department cut off the top of the car, and install a soft top. Volkswagen was uncomfortable about having their car being featured with features that didn't exist, however, after the popularity of the film, and request for a convertible, they rolled out a production line of convertible beetles.
Also, the Doctor Evil hitting #2 with the globe, and taunting him, was a reference to the movie, "The Great Santini", about a United States Marine, F4-Phantom II pilot, and his family.
Fat Bastard and Mini-Me were just the two most briliant character additions! The scene with Fat Bastard exchanging the mojo for the money levels me flat every single time!
The inclusion of those two may have made this the best sequel ever

They dipped their toes in the first movie, tried out some crazy things in the second, and then did everything that worked in the third. You are going to love Goldmember.
This is the film that made Rob Lowe into the stone face actor we know today. The scene where Fat sings Chilli's Baby Back Ribs was not scripted, and Rob almost lost it.
He swore then that he would never be the reason a shot would be unusable, and practiced hard to not crack up, no matter what.
I appreciate you catching onto the fact that Scott is Frau and Dr. Devil's son from the cut to him, some people don't realize it until the very end segment.
Fun fact, the scene with the chair going crazy was a technician messing with Mike Myers.

Robin Swallows (maiden name: Spitz) is played by a great character actress who was also in "My Big Fat Greek Wedding". In the deleted scenes, they continued the gag of his reusing her "corpse" to absorb bullets when someone does a drive by on his car and it turns out he stashed her in the back seat just in case.
I still say "Oh my gentle Jesus" to this day.

What I especially loved in the Jerry Springer scene was that they even had Steve Wilkos there.
I once had a co-worker tell me she was having serious family problems and that she thought they needed to go on Springer. I laughed before I realized she wasn't making a joke to blow off steam.

There was an MTV show where he met Fred Durst at the Playboy Mansion, and Fred refused to refer to Vern by his real name. He kept calling him Mini Me. You could tell Verne was getting more annoyed every time he said it. Vern even corrected him. Fred Durst is an ass.

No its not. Not even close. None of us kids watched any fucking Bond movies lmao. 90s kids loved these movies without watching Bond. Scary Movie literally has no story line besides to spoof the horror tropes. Austin Powers movies were more inspired by Bond movies w some funny easter eggs tossed in. Not the same at all.
It is not, I watched people react to Scary Movie first & they were laughing at all the serious scenes from Scream ruining the movie for them. Most of Scary Movie rips scene to from Screen while Austin Powers just makes fun of cliches of spy movies, I still haven't watched most of the James Bond movies & found Austin Powers hilarious even since I was a kid. Watching Scary Movie not only ruins scenes from Scream but they also spoil the movie too.
Austin Powers movies aren't directly parodies of any Bond film. They owe more to Matt Helm and (especially) Derrick Flint.

We saw this film in the theatre and the "poop coffee" scene was HILARIOUS. As soon as they showed the "sample next to the coffee the audience kind of went, "ohhhhh nooooo". Every time he would raise his glass the audience would stifle screams and then there would be a sigh of relief and people would laugh. "I knew they wouldn't show him actu -- wait, what's he doing??? No! NO! NO! Okay, whew..."
When he finally drank it people did scream!
