It’s absorbed into American culture now. Lots of midwesterners including myself have German last names and still have some old German foods/recipes and stuff but we almost never recognize it as German so it’s hard to distinguish. I’m learning German now but the case systems make me think I’m going to have to go to Germany to actually learn it. It’s not like a Romance language you can learn at home by yourself lol.

I travel every year from Western Canada to NY for the Steuben Parade, lots of fun, then we go with family and friends to the Ompah Fest at Plattduestche Park on Sunday.
This group was excellent. Fine music, excellent marching, and a great deal of energy: They were playing before the parade and immediately after finishing.

Yes. And if you wabt to see this as a competition than google "Fanfaronade ". Its the biggest Competition for "Fanfarenzüge" in Germany. I often bet on Strausberg bc they are pretty good (had the honor to performers with some of their members) Edit: also i recommend Neustrelitzer Fanfarenzug. They are pretty underrated tho they won a championship in the US and qualified for world championship in Singapore (i dont remember anymore)
No idea why YT threw this paritcular video my way, but the 'quality' of the comments didn't disappoint ;) At first glance it DOES seem a little overly "Aryan" but then you notice on the outsides there are brunettes etc? What I'm really annoyed at is they cut the scene 20 secs later, when an angry anti potsdam and anti prussian Bavarian threw bricks in front of their feet, and they were all steuben their toes-ies. Without that context, the "Steuben Parade" means nothing.
Not exactly a bulge. Its an Es/ B fanfare with a rotational valve. This is always the standard from wich slight modifications are made. There are still some Züge (Corps) that use the even more traditional setup of a main standard Fanfare that plays Es and a secondary B horn (like hunters used). Yet most of them use modern build es/b fanfaren.

If those horns were in the key of Es/B they were probably imported for this type of traditional marching parade unit but never had wide support here. At that time they still wore swords on the lefr side and had their hands on it when marching while having the bugle in the other hand, later then in the 20s swords were mostly removed from bugle corps and instead of having the left hand down, the tradition started of having the hand on the belt buckle.

This is not a school club. These are rarly school organized. But they mostly recruit frim schools. Tho there are a lot of adults and seniors too😉
