The “I wonder” response regarding undesirable toys has helped me so much! My daughter and I live in a tinyhouse, so in addition to our Waldorf inclinations, space is a great consideration - not merely what we can cram into our loft, but what feels comfortable, still leaving an open enough space to create an invitation to play. Through my downsizing (and eliminating plastic toys!) I had so much guilt and overthinking regarding how my daughter would react… but honestly, I notice a direct correlation: the more toys I remove, the more her quality of play increases. With few and simple toys, she plays so much more creatively, with much less complaint of boredom or asking for screen time (which has also been severely whittled down). And Sarah’s “I wonder” line has worked like a charm the few times it’s been needed. There has never been a meltdown over any of the disappearing toys. She is actually vocal about how she prefers the uncluttered space to play!
We are now basically down to her books, PlanToys dollhouse, a large block set and train set, and two cube-organiser buckets of smaller toys (dolls, music, wooden and die cast vehicles, etc) plus the play kitchen and art supplies downstairs. That’s most all she has, and the less she has (toys and screens) the better she plays. Now I’ve added a disc swing in our oak tree to nudge her out of doors more often! 😉
My 11 month old is already helping me unload dish washer and hands me laundry from the hamper to fold. I though the idea was silly at first, but when he came over to “interrupt” my chores for attention, I changed my perspective and saw it as a willingness to help.
I personally do not like the idea of pretending to not know where the toys went if a child asks. My mom would sell some of my birthday gifts I opened as a child. I felt crazy because I remembered that I had received them, but then everyone around me acted clueless to where they had gone. My gifts kept disappearing... and I didn't know why or how. That could be a confusing, frustrating experience for other children, as it was for me.
I love the way the natural toys look cluttering up the house, too! So much prettier than a bunch of plastic.
Peaceful Play In my opinion, kids could also get toys at other times if they have been very good and good kids all the time. If there is any kind of trip or Disneyland going, then I think the kids should get something out there because the things they bought from the trips are still very valuable souvenirs that are not sold in shops, and every thing that is bought, will be remembered for their wonderful trips.
I highly recommend that you let the children choose what they like very much, their biggest dream and buy it. children may not like them at all.Purchase only the things that they really wanted and make them really happy.Sometimes they could rarely allow children to have the toys they deserve with their great nobility.If children are still very good, then, very rarely, they could just as well afford more expensive things. Very expensive things, then for the holidays.

@@astraviil3043 I disagree as I tend to favor science... I honestly like all different styles of Education, variety is great because there's so many different types of kids. The best thing to do is pick learning / play environment style that works best for your child as an individual. Let's not assume any others style works best, or enforce that on others. Interesting teaching style though it's a nice opinion I hope you can implement it with Success With Children it works well for!

I posted a registry on my fb of all wooden toys and stressed that i want to teach my child the value of fair trade, natural toys. Buying a whole lot of wooden animals is expensive but if everyone buys one my son will have a little zoo by the time he's 1!

Hi, I was an actress. After receiving my Bachler degree in acting in Turkey(Istanbul), I worked on the stage and I also teach drama to children age between 5 to18. I worked in Turkey 4 years and then I decided to learn English and I came to Canada 3 years ago. For so many reasons, I ended up to live here in Toronto and now I am taking Early Childhood Education program for 2 year in Toronto at George Brown College. Last week, I was studying for my curriculum class and I learned different curriculum approach and my favorite is the Woldaorf education. I found you when I was trying to get more information about the Waldorf . Because of my theatre experiences this approach, I believe Waldorf approach is the good way to teach something to children's in a aesthetic way. My questions are: Can you use your acting experiences into class with the children and also "Do you miss your acting career"? Thanks in advance..
We just live a lifestyle of non possession, "freeganism" and ",minimalism" too. So most of the things we have are temporarily "ours" to use and to pass along. So it wont be unusual for a toy to come in one day and leave the next. Its not a lack of valueing the item but a deeper sense of appreciation because of the value of sharing. We have certain things we are more attatched to for different reasons and thats okay, we may hang onto them longer as they seeve their purpose, and we can keep certain things to pass down in the immediate family if they hold that importance to us, but we like to keep the cycle of "stuff" moving. We get to experience lifes abundance that way. The things that serve their purpose and have their place are the only things we need until we dont anymore. If someone gives us a thing we didnt ask for, we discuss the reasoning behind our decision with what to do with it and collaborate on our decision taking into consideration our understood and agreed upon values.

First I took a picture of my child with the unwanted toy for the gift giver. I put the picture and gift in a box for when the giver came over. Second I let my family know the gift my child wanted and invited friends and family to contribute financially.

It's been my understanding that this style.of education was mostly meant for younger students. ..but in the video you mentioned training is available for the older grades. I'm very interested in learning more about this. Thank you!

Oh no you can definitely have Waldorf School all the waldorf through High School! It's just harder to find schools that have it threw highschool! It is effective on all students but has been proven to be extremely effective on very young students and paying for extra schooling can be expensive especially with Waldorf so a lot of people opt to just send their younger kids!
Another thing you can do if you have a baby Registry before baby is born put Natural items that set the mood/tone of your style this way maybe some people will get a hint that you are into more Natural items
I have different size popcycle sticks and buttons in a sorting tray I took a recycled pasta jar and put a slot on top. I tuck this away My 1 1/2 year old loves this activity immensely so if I need a shower or time to do something I can, just one example of something to keep them busy. ❤ great for fine motor skills I now have numbers on the sticks she can already count to 10 so I have added numbers up to 20

As a grandparent with limited means, I appreciate the craft type gifts Bella Luna sells. My daughter has 4 children and the wooden egg painting kit has enough eggs to go around : ) My grandchildren (now school age) appreciate getting postcards or simple greetings by mail from grandma. They live far away & it takes some consistent 'doing' to let them know I'm thinking of them even though we are miles apart.
