    I watched this with my eyes closed to get unbiased reactions and then checked which was which. The one that made me think "That's nice, that'd be sweet for a less aggressive track" was the SLO, and the one that made me think "Holy shit, it's war!" was the BE-OD

    I really do think you do some of the best review videos on YT. No blabbering about this and that. Just how the gear sounds. Different adjustments and what matters. Another great video. Thank you. I like both pedals. They each have there own unique tone. I would use both. It just matters where each would be the best fit for the tone I was wanting.

    I have a BE-OD Pedal and love it. Period. However, the Soldano offers a different flavor that's neither "better/worse". it all depends on what you're in the mood for at the time. Why limit yourself? :)

    I love Soldano amps, but the Friedman sounded much richer and fuller in this comparison. The Soldano sounded more focused in the higher frequencies. However, this might be just in the pedal versions. When comparing the Synergy preamps for these two, you can dial each in a little more with the added options they give you.

    Got two pedals.
    The BE OD don’t have mids !!( Why mister Friedman ?)

    The SLO seems more amp like to me, more dynamic with a richer and more responsive midrange which should stand out much better in a band's mix.

    Having watched a few vids on these pedals, I'm thinking the BE-OD works best with a EL34 power section and the SLO with a 6L6 power section.

      I can attest to this and can confirm it does. Or if you really want a better explanation. The Friedman paired with a Marshall style circuit and the Soldano with a fender style circuit is the best option. Considering that Friedman uses Marshall topology along with Soldano using Fenders.
      I have a Suhr Badger 18 and 30. They work flawlessly with my Friedman BE OD deluxe. And a Suhr Bella which takes the Soldano SLO beautifully.

    Somebody mentioned Friedman for rhythm and Soldano for lead... That sounds pretty much what I got on my side... I had both and the way I used Friedman was to turn the internal gain trim pot to zero (you still have a tons of gain on tap) and blast the volume, with up to 50% on the gain pot (you really don't need more even for soloing) - this is where those fizzy mid frequencies become somewhat tolerable. Of course, it depends on the rest of the setup as well - Les Paul here with BK Black Dog in the bridge and SD '59 in the neck, 2x12' Celestion Vintage pushed by modded Egnater Rebel 20 MkI. In this "surrounding" Soldano does sound more tamed and manageable, while Friedman, in my opinion, does require perhaps a "specific thing" in order to be close to the amp. Sure, same goes for Soldano but as someone said here, Soldano is more "user friendly" and less "finicky", it blends better into various surroundings and setups. That is true.
    Disclaimer: both pedals were loaned, I never had any but I am thinking on getting the Friedman as I recently bought the Friedman Smallbox and it works great.
    Excellent demo, proper sound, very good presentation! My utmost respect!

    friedman for rythm and soldano for lead?

  • @PlaneTShakeRo
    @PlaneTShakeRo ปีที่แล้ว +2

    I've been comparing these two on the high gain setting with the bogner Burnley v2 (demo on this same channel). The friedman sounds too compressed and fizzy. The soldano is more midrangey and aggressive, but open. And the bogner sounds a bit rounder and fuller since it has that transformer.
    I am looking for a replacement for my mxr prime distortion for a medium to high gain sound, to be boosted with a tubescreamer. Any other suggestions than these 3 that I should look into?

      Revv G4 boosted with a boss SD1 works well through the clean channel of my tube amp for high gain crispiness.

    I own the BE-OD and run it as a „3rd“ channel for my Friedman Runt 50. great pedal - but tbh: it has too much gain - there is a point where it just doesn’t sound good any more (no matter if Les Paul or Strat) - even the SLO box sounds „cleaner“… still amazing - but not easy to dial in

    • @052RC
      @052RC หลายเดือนก่อน

      Increasing the gain on the input of your preamp is what distorts the signal. The tubes in a power amp distort for a different reason. A volume control can't overdrive or alter the signal in any way. Its a passive device. When the signal gets to the power amp, it passes through untouched. When you increase volume, you demand more from the power amp. At a certain point, the power tubes get pushed to failure. If you're going beyond that point, that's what you're hearing. Its like turning your home audio or car audio system louder than it can handle. It sounds like crap. The exact same thing is happening with your power tubes.

    Love the Friedman and got the Deluxe. Soldano was never my thing, even 30 years in. No prob, I'd go Bogner Überschall if I want something else. Or channel 3 on the ENGL invader. Ah. Good times.
