Lyrics
I've had enough of danger
And people on the streets
I'm looking out for angels
Just trying to find some peace
Now I think it's time
That you let me know
So if you love me
Say you love me
But if you don't just let me go
'Cause teacher
There are things that I don't want to learn
And the last one I had
Made me cry
So I don't want to learn to
Hold you, touch you
Think that you're mine
Because it ain't no joy
For an uptown boy
Whose teacher has told him goodbye, goodbye, goodbye
When you were just a stranger
And I was at your feet
I didn't feel the danger
Now I feel the heat
That look in your eyes
Telling me no
So you think that you love me
Know that you need me
I wrote the song, I know it's wrong
Just let me go
And teacher
There are things
That I don't want to learn
Oh the last one I had
Made me cry
So I don't want to learn to
Hold you, touch you
Think that you're mine
Because it ain't no joy
For an uptown boy
Whose teacher has told him goodbye, goodbye, goodbye
So when you say that you need me
That you'll never leave me
I know you're wrong, you're not that strong
Let me go
And teacher
There are things
That I still have to learn
But the one thing I have is my pride
Oh so I don't want to learn
Hold you, touch you
Think that you're mine
Because there ain't no joy
For an uptown boy
Who just isn't willing to try
I'm so cold
Inside
Maybe just one more try
Hi Suzi and Travis. This time I have a cover for you. It’s Beverly Knight’s live performance of “One More Try” by George Michael. I would be curious to know if you like it more than George Michael’s original studio version. Thank you. Brian
Fantastic performance..beverly is from England 🏴..George would be proud of that performance definitely 💯
She said 'Bless his cottons' - an abbreviation of 'Bless his cotton socks', which is a popular British saying. Don't know why we like to bless peoples' cotton socks. 😂
Beverley is, in my opinion, the strongest British singer in my lifetime. And so so cool. Love her.
BEVERLEY sang this song as a tribute to her friend George and for me she has a voice that's never been appreciated enough here in the UK . Had she been born in the states i feel she would have been right up there with the greats , her voice is simply PERFECTION with a capital P .
George was so impressed with this cover he posted it on his Twitter feed.
George Michael has his own great live version too
insanely underrated singer
It's a shame George isn't alive to hear her do his song justice. Beverly Knight is a severely underrated singer. She's been around since the early 90s and deserves her flowers. Porchester Hall has a capacity of 650! She should be performing in front of 80k minimum.
It was released in 2011, and IIRC (I was at the gig, right at the front), he was in the audience. All of the artists present of the songs she covered for Soul UK came on stage, but I don’t think George did.
Even if he wasn’t there I can almost guarantee he heard it as they were friends and worked with the same circle of musicians.
I think he did hear it
In response to 7:18, this performance was from Beverley’s album launch in April 2011 for Soul UK - an album comprised of covers of some of her favourite British soul songs. Many of the artists she covered were in the audience that night and came on stage.
A couple of years later, following years of a somewhat decline in popularity and in all honesty a waning music career (I’ve been a huge fan of Bev since I was 8 years old - over 20 years - and am a family friend so please don’t think I’m being catty and hate on me for saying this 😂) she broke into musical theatre by starring in the West End run of The Bodyguard which led to a whole new direction in her career, a personal renaissance if you like, and 10 years on she is now a hugely successful stage actress (particularly musical theatre) as well as a more recent revival in her music career with an incoming UK tour to mark her 50th birthday.
You’ll hear her referred to as both the “Queen of UK Soul” and “massively underrated” by her fans, because even though she’s had a number hits and sold over a million albums in the UK she never really received the type of admiration and success her vocal prowess deserves. On a side note, if you’re interested in checking out her material I’d start with her magnum opus (in my humble opinion anyway) Prodigal Sista, released in 1997 and (again in my humble opinion 😂) possibly THE greatest British R&B album of the 90s, if not all time.
Huge fan of George, happy to discover this cover gem here in your channel. George was the king od covers too, and he would certainly be proud of this version! 🥰
Love it when the lady whoops, sounds polyphonic. Amazing. Haha.
Beverly Knight is an amazing singer, another great artist born in the west midlands (England).
Within a 30+mile radius we've produced world beating bands and solo artists.
Black sabbath, Duran Duran, and others.
There must be something in the water😂
Prince adored her, Liten to her cover of Twist & Shout & I can't get no satisfaction
Brilliant Beverly Knight I have seen her 4 times what a outstanding artist
Holy smokes!!
Her vibrato is sick!
Amaaaazing !!!!!
I'm fromthe UK and haven't heard Beverly's version before. Fire!!!
I'm hearing the power of Patty LaBelle with the soul and control of Randy Crawford right there!
Both George and Bev are some of the best vocalists to come out of the UK. But where George got that recognition I feel like the general public still sleeps on Bev, big time. No idea why though, because her discography is 25+ years of excellence and she can SING most people in the charts today under the table....
She's from Wolverhampton.
It's a Black Country accent.
Just Awsome!! I got the Faith album when he released it after Wham! ended. Absolutely fantastic performance from our Beverley 😊👍🇬🇧👌
If you loved this I would highly recommend Beverley knight Too much heaven it’s just unreal
Gorg but no the best cover
