If I was Tavares, I would be telling New York I will resign if you can match the highest offer or at least close. The islanders are not a bad team... all they need is a legit number 1 goalie. They’re the new Winnipeg Jets. Plus Tavares can get 8 years if he resigns with the Islanders but only 7 years max on free agency. I would take the 8 year contract but not sure if they want to knowing the history with the Dipietro contract. Tavares has proven himself but injuries can still happen

Hopefully Holland can successfully build around Zadina, Veleno, Mantha, and Larkin through trades and free agency. The defenseman will probably have to come from next year’s draft, and I wouldn’t mind if they draft a goalie in the near future because Howard is injury prone. But for right now, I’m just happy we got Zadina and Veleno.
Deathstroke the Terminator yeah but this year’s draft was so much better of a year to get an elite defenseman. Next year not so much, there’s still some solid ones but also a ton of skilled forwards that might tempt them too much again (Kakko, Newhook, Dach, etc).

crusty nuggets but yet multiple GMs passed on these players, so are all these GMs stupid or is Ken Holland just smarter. Holland has been one of the best GMs in the league for 20 years, it’s just that he has made some bad contract signings recently.

Ramsay, I'm just glad we have a GM who gives a damn about defense lol. Veleno floored me though. It's like he dropped far enough that GM's didn't even have him on their list because they were sure he would be gone. One list that ended up quite accurate all the way to 15th had him at 6th. Unreal.
I'm thinking it was probably that since it wasn't a draft where it's consistent talent through the whole draft GM's were willing to take more chances for hitting that sleeper pick. I'm thinking they saw something in their pick that made them think they could have something. It was a really screwy draft so that's what makes me think that way.

Wings got Rasmussen last year and Zadina and Valeno this year., things are looking up. I like the Bylsma signing as power play coach. They should pick up a Defenseman or two early in round 2. Wings should be back in contention in 2-3 years. Go Wings!!!!
