Summer afternoon bike cruising with my 8 years old folks, gathering the change in our pockets to buy lollipops, snacks or ice cream. Leaving home at 1pm and remembering your father's got hell of a leather belt at home by figuring out the sun is setting and you're at least 1h far from home by bike. Aahahahahaha. Great memories. Cheers y'all
ORLANDO! Make more. This is so moving that I get choked up everytime I see it. I love the progression of life from youth to maturity. Makes Bronzeville smile... 1:08, 2:57, 3:26 amazing portraits!!
So far, this is my favorite song of the year. I miss my family my land and friends. This is my soul speaking right here. Wish i could meet you guys. Incredible
Every decade or so a drummer comes along that just does not compare to ANY other drummer. Zach Hill was that drummer to me for quite awhile...until Mr. Nate Smith came along. No one like him. Thank you, Sir Nate. This is my favorite song btw!
Great vid! I’ve absolutely loved this song since the first day I heard it. Tingles in through your ears and works down into warm your heart, makes you want to tell everyone around you that you love them! ❤️❤️❤️kinfolk 2 is a banger too! ❤️
Absolutely beautiful! Didn't think the chord progression could work melancholically at first, but when the rest of the instruments came in, it definitely worked! 😊
this song is a forever song now. the melody everything 1:20 father and son? I'm assuming they are moved back closer to my dad he's getting old. life is a wild ride this song and video are so on thank you *this one shot is really hilarious i mean, did the son fart and held his composure but dad lost it? beautiful film no matter what ** don't tell me dad was just squinting because of the sun *** hey Props to the video crew! Dad's head goes down to up right when the melody plays. I'm geeking too hard on this scene i know but real that was no accident.
Wow this is so beautiful... I was listening to this on Spotify and I thought to myself " I wonder if there is a music video for this "... Especially the beginning with the kids, made me shed a little tear... Now im gonna maybe say something controversial since I am not black myself.... You need more music and videos like this to be heard and seen and be popular... You need this kind of emotion to influence young people, to show them that they should love each other and care for each other.... To be gentle to be kind, not all this gang bang guns whores and money shit that everyone is playing now.... Oh how I wish it could be this way... Amazing song and video !
@@alejandromusante2580 to begin, I can't even keep track of how often I've listened to this track, performed this track with other musicians, and analyzed this piece. In fact, I'm even working on a jazz/concert band arrangement of this piece! I've tried 27 different ways of trying to count this in 9/8, and it simply doesn't work no matter how I try to subdivide the beat. I've tried triplet subdivisions - 1, 2, 3 / 4, 5, 6 / 7, 8, 9. Problem with counting it that way is that the 9/8 meter ends prematurely.. it doesn't line up with the timing of the melodic phrase at all. I've tried counting it with duplet and triplet subdivisions - 1, 2 / 3, 4 / 5, 6, 7 / 8, 9... closer! But still not quite it. The closest I've gotten to counting it in 9/8 is as follows - 1, 2 / 3, 4 / 5, 6, 7 / 8, 9 ... 1, 2, 3 / 4, 5, 6 / 7, 8, 9. So, alternating the duplet, duplet, triplet, duplet subdivision and the triplet subdivision. Now, this technically works! But, let's listen for when the guitar and saxophone enter with the melody (about 27 seconds in). Do you hear that strong, natural pick-up beat on beat 9? To me, that was the first indicator to me that it's 9/4. Try counting it in 9/4.. just a simple 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9 without any clear subdivision of the beat. That beat 9 leads perfectly into a recapitulation of the phrase in 9/4.. not so much in 9/8. Do you see what I'm saying? While it technically is possible to count it in 9/8, the phrase structure in this song fits much more easily and naturally in a 9/4 time signature. It's not always so much about what time signature it's possible to count it in, it's what time signature pairs with the melody and phrase structure best. 9/8 feels a bit rushed to me, so 9/4 is the clear winner here. I think the reason it may feel like a 9/8 time signature vs a 9/4 time signature is due to Smith's use of dotted beat values - especially in the B section (around 1 minute and 51 seconds). In 9/8, that triplet subdivision is so common and normal to us as listeners.. but to think of them as dotted quarter notes is more uncommon. Anyway, this is the best explanation I can give. However, I found this dissertation that may explain it in much better detail! 9/8
@@alejandromusante2580 actually, it is 9/4
