I love your play-throughs of Shadowdark. Entertaining but also help me to prep when I run the same adventure with a large group of high school students. Please keep these videos coming!
I've never managed to stick around the 1+ hours of tabletop playing, but somehow I've watched the Lost Citadel and I'm watching through this one now. Your "to the point" DMing style meshes very well with Shadowdark's adventuring workflow. Running Shadowdark with my players right now and I've picked up many useful tricks from you. Thanks for putting these up!
Thank you! That is high praise. I share the live plays mostly for DMs who want to mine them to see how certain areas, enemies, or events played out. I'm glad you have found some useful tricks!
I’ve always had this idea that I would enjoy watching live play online, but when I do, it’s so hard to get into it for me. But THIS stream has been the exception! The pace, the creative play, and the gm’ing checks all the boxes! On another note, I’ve heard some criticize the initiative all the time mechanic, and to be honest I was in this camp, but the fluidity of how you guys play has me rethinking because I love how it keeps everyone engaged and at the table.
Wow! Thank you for the kind words! I am getting better at the initiative "all the time" thing. It can definitely be done poorly and slow things down... I don't normally do it in my 5E games, but I'm trying to grow it as a skill in my ShadowDark games!
@@d20play there is definitely a lot to learn from this style, even a hybrid version for 5e games. That’s one cool thing about Shadowdark is it’s mechanical commitment to keeping things moving and everyone engaged.
If you ever wanted to switch to Foundry VTT, torches are much easier. If the character has a torch in their inventory, they can right click their token and there is a torch icon which will use up the torch in inventory and activate the lighting which is centered on the token. Oh, and you guys have been doing a great job! Really enjoying it.
thanks for this. immediately brought back memories of playing white box D&D way back in the beginning. I was lucky enough to have one of the older kids on the block willing to let a few 8 year olds play in his own created dungeon. For our 8 sided die we used a nut screwed onto a bolt with the sides of the nut numbered. It was an amazing experience for an 8 year old and a spur to the imagination. Good to see this type of game play returning.
I really appreciate how you GM. It makes it seem achievable for me to take a crack at. Your players are not over the top and this is a video I'll share with my PC's (family members who have even less experience roleplaying than I do).
Great video. Looking forward to more! Can I ask what character sheets your players are using? wanting to run SD myself and I like the chat output for attacks, spells etc.
@@d20play Thanks, I´ll check it out! One more question if I may. Where can I get a hold of the Mugdulblub playermap? I see you have a link to the Scarlet Minotaur one. Thanks again!
Mugdulblub is pleased you were listening. Yes, playing "Cave of Time" by Tabletop Audio in the background at very low volume. Sounds of dripping echoing water and the low moan of the wind moving through the caves.
It's not in the quickstart (nor is it necessary to do adventuring). There is a pdf floating around of the entire book if you'd like to try before purchasing.
How do you have those roll templatey things for stuff like spell checks or attacks? I couldn't find a Shadowdark character sheet, I'm just using Scarlet Heroes because apparently that's a good one for OSR type games
Hi Brian, I use the Powertools API for that. You can do something very similar with the built-in tools. Here is a video where I go over how I set that up: th-cam.com/video/-8PxCgP0O5k/w-d-xo.html
The Shadowdark plays are super entertaining and fast. Stuff is always happening. Keep doing MORE of these. Way better than 5e. feels way more badass!
Thanks, more to come!

You’re welcome! And, thank you for sharing. The nut d8 is awesome.

I'm amazed by how efficient the DM is with this software, makes everything so snappy and great to watch
Thank you!
Great to see the continuing adventures 😊 Cheers 🍻
Thanks!
Y'all are fantastic. Thanks for sharing these.
Thank you! And, you're welcome!
Loving these! I’m so hyped to try out shadowdark!
Thank you! I think you’ll love it!
@@d20play just saw on the subreddit that late backing was going on, so I got the complete set!
That is great Charlie!
the old woman is my favorite character
She is fun.
37:20 this made me laugh! 😂
Thanks!
Appreciate you sharing the clean map.
No problem!
Awesome series / actual play. Great job all.
Thank you!
Never clicked on a video so fast !
Thank you!
This is great. I have to ask, you are editing the video and cutting the dialogue?
I edit out the silences using timebolt.
This was excellent
Thank you!
Awesome!
Thanks!
Tucker sounds just like Tom Hanks. :)
He does!
Iron or steel are the only things that would be magnetic.
Thanks!

I'm using the power cards API in Roll20.

I added the Mugdulblub map! Here: d20play.com/Mugdulblub66w42h70dpi.jpg
Does anyone else hear chirping during these? I thought I was going crazy but I swear it's there! Lol😂

what are the carousing table? is that a homebrew thing?
It's a common gold sink that games have - you spend some gold partying to gain xp (and mishaps). Shadowdark has a carousing section in there.
@@Metal_Horror is that in the QuickStart guide somewhere? Cause I can’t find it
It's not in the quickstart (nor is it necessary to do adventuring). There is a pdf floating around of the entire book if you'd like to try before purchasing.

For a first time adventure to run would you recommend this or Citadel of the Scarlet Monastery?
Probably Citadel, but they are both great!
more
These are such great adventures!
Amazing how fast the GMa nd players are with this tool. Seen a lot of actual plays, but nothing like this.
Thanks! Spread the word :-)
These play test are super useful and enjoyable! After a player is stabilised from dying, how do they regain consciousness?
Thank you! I think a stabilized character needs magical healing or a rest to regain consciousness.
29 commercials, ads every 5 mins man. come on.....
That is crazy! I turned off the mid-roll adds, let me know if that is better.
