Great stuff Chuck!! I'm a tool fanatic myself!! You can never have enough! Great haul as well! Love the VWs and the Starter kits too! Big CONGRATS on the award buddy!!!
Hey my friend! Great recap of the show. Awesome scores too, dude. I was pretty jealous when you got that Sauber kit! ;) I love shopping rhinos table for tools and parts. Great selection of stuff!
Chuck, after seeing your builds in person at DSC 24 this past weekend and how gorgeous they are in person I was wondering if you have any specific technique to drying your paint?
Nice additions, I need to get my hands on one of the Trumpeter Falcon Ranchero kits. (Had one but traded it like a dummy! Lol) Rough way to end a show, hopefully they can get their awards figured it out. As far as 2K clear. 2K means it's catalyzed/activated. (2 to 4 parts. Clear, Activator, Reducer, additives like retarder/accelerator, matting agents, etc.) There's a number of different mix ratios, so the ratio doesn't tell you much. I always recommend getting the Technical data sheets for any clear. There's basically 3 styles of 2K clears. (Plenty of variations, so no real standard) Production= standard all around clear with good cure speeds (for like insurance work) Bake time is typically 30-40min (140-160*F, air dry "dust free" in an hour or 2. Spot or Snap dry= for small items like, mirrors, door handles, or small spot repairs. Typically air dry "dust free" in 20mins, 2-4hrs light handle time. Overall/Glamor/Appearance clear= For high gloss and clarity, restoration/custom painting. But is generally slow curing and lower on UV protection to gain clarity (seasonal vehicles). In scale I don't know that there's really going to be a whole lot difference in final appearance. I use a cheap spot clear that is 4:1 but I add a urethane reducer to spray through an airbrush. If I was going to go to something different it would be to try a glamor clear like HOK Show Clear. But the spot clear works and has great clarity and quick air dry times. Sorry not trying to confuse you or say the clear is in any way bad/wrong..Just trying to pass on info if I can. Over 20yrs of 1:1 painting and certification.
I'll be at SoCal NNL on May 5th. Will you be there or at Vegas the same day? You said you're going to Art's show so I'll look for you there. I'll be visiting with my old friend Armando Flores and I'll be checking if Dave Cruz has any kits that have to come home with me. I often buy from him. I may be identifiable wearing a cowboy hat cuz the wife is worried about me being out in the sun too long checking out the big cars while I'm in the middle of chemo. I haven't been to a model show since the NHRA Museum. So I'm looking forward to this. Congrats on the sweet trophy.
