2 things can be true at the same time:
Barry deserves to be in the hall of fame (along with dozens of other hall of fame running backs), but he was also grossly overrated.
    2 reasons
    1: He was one dimensional.
He didn't do very well between the guards, EVEN WITH an all Pro center (kevin glover), all-pro guard (hartings), and a 2x starting superbowl guard in mike compton. He did much better in space, but was such a liability between the guards, the Lions got smart in 97 and 98 and benched him for the "Jumbo" package of tommy vardell to do short-game work. Tommy would extend plays where barry would get stuffed, allowing barry to run for more yards.
    2: He was a choker.
Who has a negative yard game in a playoff game?
He has a SINGLE touchdown in 6 playoff games. His own backups; Rivers, Vardell, Mason, all had a single playoff touchdown as well.

I wouldn't say he was overrated or a choker. Barry Sanders had A LOT ON HIS PLATE! He was carrying a franchise, which is really tough to do, especially from the RB position.
Barry Sanders at the time of his retirement following the 1998 season:
[1st] Most Consecutive Seasons 1,000 or More Yards Rushing - 10
      [1st] Most Games 100 or More Rushing Yards, Season - 14 (1997)
[1st] Most Consecutive Games 100 or More Rushing Yards, Season - 14 (1997)
[Tied for 1st] Most Seasons 1,000 or More Yards Rushing - 10
      [2nd] Most Rushing Attempts, Career - 3,062
      [2nd] Most Rushing Yards, Career - 15,269
      [2nd] Most Rushing Yards, Season - 2,053 (1997)
[2nd] Most Game 100 or More Rushing Yards, Career - 76
[2nd] Most Combined Net Yards, Career - 18,308
      [Tied for 2nd] Most Seasons Leading League in Rushing - 4 (1990, 1994, 1996, 1997)
[Tied for 2nd] Most Games 200 or More Rushing Yards, Career - 4
[3rd] Most Combined Net Yards Attempts, Career - 3,432
[Tied for 3rd] Most Consecutive Seasons Leading League in Rushing - 2 (1996-1997)
[Tied for 3rd] Most Games 200 or More Rushing Yards, Season - 2 (1997)
[Tied for 3rd] Most Rushing Touchdowns, Rookie Season - 14 (1989)
A first-or second-team All-Pro for ten consecutive seasons, Sanders became the first NFL running back to record five 1,500-yard rushing seasons and the only back to do so in four consecutive seasons (1994-1997).

Cowboys fan I take it? It’s always the Cowboys fans with the embarrassing Sanders takes. You realize he didn’t call the plays right? Dude could dunk from standing under the rim at 5’8”. He punched it in constantly in college. Jumped over the line a lot. The lions were scared about him getting injured so they took him out at the goal line. Basically if you’re arguing against Barry, you sound dumb. Every hall of famer would disagree with you. Go back to your armchair.
