    You've saved a lot of people a lot of money....including me! Canon wanted $240....took me an hour. Thanks a lot, this was a great tutorial. Oxford University! I lived in Summertown, just off the Woodstock Rd....long time ago though!

      Nice! I picked up that shirt as a souvenir when I visited a friend studying in Oxford.

    Appreciate this video mate, just fixed mine with your help. When I heard bits rattling around I assumed there was likely broken plastic so glad I did some research before ordering a new one.
    Side note - probably good practise to slip the rubber ring off every once in a while and tighten screws to avoid having to pull the lens apart in the future.

    Thanks for the video. My zoom still worked but it had some play when I try to zoom in and out. I was able to just remove the rubber band and both screws were loose, I just tightened it back up and its good as new!

    Brilliant mate - thank you. Exactly my problem. Only thing to note is that the screws holding the brass "washers" appear to be magnetic and were stuck to the wall of the lens barrel much deeper inside the lens. Finding the loose brass 'washer' was fine but it took a few moments to locate the missing screws

    Great video, thanks so much. You saved me a rental fee for another lens to use and whatever it would have cost to have Canon make the repair on mine... and it took me less time than it would have taken just to prepare and package it to send in for repair!

  • @ministerc9513
    @ministerc9513 5 ปีที่แล้ว

    *OR... you can just take that plastic band off first thing, and shake it, and the screws will fall back out the holes. You may not have to disassemble the lens at all.
    *thank you for posting this video, I would not have guessed this was the problem at all. But I was able to solve it in about 3 minutes.
    The screws and one of the housing pieces came out the holes from whence they came. And the other housing piece dropped out the back of the lens after a bit of shaking. And then it was easy to see where they went back in. works perfectly.

    For a simple check of the presence of the screws you dont need to screw anything. Just remove the first rubber zoomring by pinching it a bit so you can remove it over the end of the lenscap. If the two screws are there maybe check if ok. You can even wash the rubber ring and clean it with a handsoap and water. After drying replace ghe rubber ring and its done!

    Good video, but I had a blocked zoom (fallen screw) that needed the last part where he gives his "proceed with care" warning. This part was too sketchy, just saying take off these bits and slide out the housing after taking out 4 screws.
    It's possible but it would have been better if he said to be careful about putting the focus moving bar back in its housing on resassembly. You can reassemble it without doing this and of course the focus doesn't work.
    Basically a good video.

      My focus ring is the one thats slipping. Im not sure if its meant to be like it is or not. Does your focus ring continue to revolve no matter how far you turn it? In other words, can you keep turning it forever, or does it reach an end point? Mine continues to turn forever. It seems like its broken. When I take the rubber off, there are a few holes. Doesn't look lie there were screws there though.....

      If you lose Auto Focus after the repair, make sure the two WHITE pressure tabs are still connected to the ribbons, and on the proper side.
