From Wikipedia:In the film The Shawshank Redemption, prisoner Andy Dufresne (Tim Robbins) defies Warden Sam Norton (Bob Gunton) by playing the duettino over the prison's loudspeakers. Ellis Boyd "Red" Redding (Morgan Freeman) remarks in his voice-over narration: "I have no idea to this day what those two Italian ladies were singing about. [...] I'd like to think they were singing about something so beautiful it can't be expressed in words, and it makes your heart ache because of it."[1] This is ironic as the opera characters are singing about a duplicitous love letter to expose infidelity, and Dufresne's wife's affair is the event which indirectly leads to his imprisonment.
There are moments in life when all other things are melted away and your focus becomes fixed. As in the Movie the "Shawshank redemption" every time I hear this I am transported to another place and time. Closing you eyes whilst listening increases this experience I highly recommend it.
This is from the DVD of The Marraige of Figaro with Hermann Prey as Figaro. It is my favorite version of the opera, though I have seen a number of versions.
Edith Mathis and granular Horowitz sang in the movie. can't go wrong with Freni on any aria as she is one of the best sopranos ever and much better than Calla s .
@Midases boring?? ...you obviously do not know much about opera though it is nice that you like this piece. Just before "this" the Contessa sings one of the most exquisite arias in the annals of female voice, following a hit parade of two and half hours of the most famous ensembles and arias for all voices other than lyric tenor (probably the reason you are not familiar with the tunes...) There is still about half hour to go of amazing arias and a breathtakingly beautiful finale... buy the CDs!!
Agree with you ... however the tempo is also much dictated by how the artists and conductor see the action/interpretation. This version compared to the one with Renée Flemming and Cecilia Bartoli is much more lyrical while the other is ... let's say ... zesty
I have to say that I find it offputting that the tempo is so slow. It's almost as if it's on the wrong speed. I have heard her sing it differently and much prefer those other renditions.
This has got to be the very best version of this gorgeous music. Two fabulous voices and I love the slow tempo.
I'm blasting this at work. Some of my "hard rock" co-workers stopped and listened. Gives me chills every time I hear this piece. The voice of angels.
It is so wonderful! I can't find words for it. Mozart is so fantastic!
I love the warmth and richness of Kiri Te Kanawa's voice
5 pessoas não sabem o que é musica. Te Kanawa e Freni são deusas.

excellent performance.!!!
Isso é um sonho, vozes maravilhosas,doces,divinas,abençoadas...nos fazem sonhar com o paraíso!!!

So beautiful...got me all teary-eyed...

This is the voice of God. Mozart is with Him now.
Perfect tempo........ perfect!

Freni i Kiri te Kanawa - the best forever ;-)
I always think of Shawshank Redemption when watching this :D
Such a beautiful movie, such a beautiful scene, such a beautiful SONG

I really enjoyed the slower beat. This verson and the one from Shawshank are my two favorite versons.
Good show...💐
Oh well, can't please everyone, but it sounds sublime to me.......
Wie ich das Lied Liebe Danke Mozart
@johnmiller910
Agreed and Kiri is the definitive Donna Elvira. NO ONE can touch her in these two roles...yet.
Sublime!

Ik luister naar dit nummer, het is warm in de kamer, maar ik heb kippenvel, hoe kan dit?
@LWPYSJ, Unless you think a zephyr is anything faster than this version, then the lyrics don't go with the original tempo, do they? ::)

This looks like it might be from a DVD, anyone have an idea of what it might be?
Isnt this Gundula Janowitz and Edith Matthias?
holy sloooooow.
how can you replace. Mozart, Shakespeare,. science explains art creates from deep within the mind of a genius
I think anyone who doesn't like this slow tempo should shuffle off and go and listen to the other versions which they may prefer - problem solved.

Hope can set you free.
The version with Dame Kiri Te Kanawa & Cotrubras is better as it is sung at the correct tempo. Sorry.
