Which of these facts about tabby cats did you find the most interesting? 🐈
    ***
EDIT TO ADD: To address the several comments pointing out the spelling error in #10... yes, we know how to spell "popular." No, it was not done on purpose. It was simply a typo that got overlooked... C'mon guys... it happens! MOL (meow out loud). 😹

I grew up with dogs and cats . I’m now 80 and for the last 7 years I’ve been living with a tabby, my first. She is the most empathetic cat I’ve ever had. She’s grey, short haired and her name is KIT of course she gets called KIT CAT and she is a rescue and the love of my life!🐈

I had a cat Kit she has been stolen (this bothers me) anyway I called her kit the lioness mostly I called her kit.I miss her greatly I'll bet she misses this place also it is outdoors here she is lightning fast, small yet climes to great height's. Another cat learned a few things from her like how to jump. Hide and seek was one of her favorite games or it was men's of survival. She actually would rather know if a stray came on the property first to avoid being spotted first. I do miss Kit the lioness.

I have a tabby grey and brown boi, almost 10 mths. He is so friendly towards all humans, and other cats. Sometimes we take care of my daughters black ghost tabby, and he is really a scaredy-cat. But they love each other. As soon as they get together they are on a roll. But my daughters cat do NOT want anyone to touch him without clear consent. My gray tabby is allowed.

I've had cats for probably 60 of my 71 years. Our 2nd and 3rd cats, one male and one female, (didn't have them at the same time) were 7 toed tabbies and they weighed in at around 15-18 pounds (they were big but not FAT cats). Those 2 cats were the most friendly and affectionate cats we ever had (of about 15 to 20). My younger brother and I would put a towel in our bike baskets and those silly cats would lay on their BACKS as we rode our bikes through the neighborhood! They were the best cats I ever had. I still miss them after 50+ years.

I've had them a long time too. I'm 55 and I've not been without a cat for long in my life. I went for 3 years after my last cat because I was so brokenhearted, and the 2 I have right now are ones I rescued from my street-I took them in. They are brother and sister but the sister I got later and she was completely feral. I'm convinced the only reason I got to touch her was because I have her brother. She lives in the house now and is much less feral, pretty normal now and they are doing fantastic. Now we have a racing pigeon too. lol.
Thats cool you had 7 toed cats!!!They sound like they were fun kitties ❤ They are all so different-my last one was such a great hunter-I wont let my 2 out now...😻such great animals, I'm so grateful for them.

I’ve only ever had three cats. My first cat was a brown tabby. She was very extroverted, always expressive and affectionate. She LOVED to hunt! Definitely a big personality. My second cat was a tortoiseshell. She was very introverted, very shy very quiet. Almost never made a sound. She’d only be affectionate with me and she ignored everyone else. She was also very passive-aggressive, not biting or scratching to show displeasure but doing things like peeing on an article of clothing that belonged to whoever she was mad it. My third cat was a black kitty. Feral. It took her four years to warm up to me, but when she did she wanted to be in contact with me 24/7. She wanted to snuggle under my chin all the time. She was quick-tempered, though, and would go from sweet to angry if the slightest thing bothered her. My husband, who was never around cats before he met me, never know that cats could have such different personalities. He was shocked at how different my first two were from each other.

Our first cat was a red mackerel male we had named Runaway (no, we don't know if he had ever had runaway before). He came into our lives one Christmas Eve when he was four months old. To confirm that tabbies are intelligent, he was outside our front door one day, and then the next day he was in our backyard. The day after that he was again by our front door! We've had him for 12 years until some illness had sent him across the Rainbow Bridge. He absolutely ADORED my dad (I think it was gratitude because he had wedged himself in our window screen that Christmas Eve and couldn't get out), and he tolerated everyone else. He also liked to walk around with a sock in his mouth making trilling sounds, catching bugs and mice (he kindly left us his "presents"), and learned to open doors. *sighs* How I miss him to this day...

I have three feral short-haired grey tabby kittens and they are great ! I've had at least one cat in my family my entire life, of many different breeds, including Persians... and these 3 grey tabby kittens are amazing, Loving , affectionate, smart, talkative, sensitive and very funny. They will be 4 years old in a couple months and haven't changed except for their size.. Each has their own unique personality of course. The one girl kitty is a small cat and her fur is still as soft as a kitten. No kidding ! It really is. The two brothers are typical brothers. They hang out together, play together, look out for each other, still like to wrestle. Sometimes they like to pick on their sister though, but she'll let them have it if need be. I'll step in if needed...but it usually isn't. They are a gift from God.

The first cat I had that I remember as a small child was a tabby. We went to the local pound, and I personally picked her out. She was a quite timid, quiet kitty, so I named her Shadow- she was afraid of everything including her shadow. (I thought it was a good name when I was 7 years old). A great kitty she was for me. She’d sleep at the foot of my bed at night, till I fell asleep. I lost her to our St. Bernard, who acted on instinct and bit her when she tried to run past him outside. Really traumatic for me, as I saw it happen. I’ll always have an extremely soft spot for tabbies.

They just turned 1 year old back in April and we named them Daphne and Velma (after the Scooby Doo characters). They interestingly have different fur patterns, Daphne has a traditional tabby cat pattern while Velma has a spotted tabby pattern. Daphne is a bit introverted and only really hangs out with me, but Velma is IMMENSELY extroverted and will basically love on everyone and will let you pick her up and snuggle her at any time.

My theory on the M pattern on the head is that when their eyes are closed, it still looks like they are open. Therefore it gave them some evolutionary advantage while sleeping. My two tabbies are brothers named Buckminster and Isamu. They are named after Buckminster Fuller, and Isamu Noguchi who were friends and visionary designers in real life. Thank you for this episode. Our Tabby cat was adorable. Named Larry after Larry the Cable Guy (whom my Dad, for some reason, thought he resembled 🤷) , our monstrous ball of love grew to be over twenty pounds and one of the fastest eaters in our house. He was an absolute darling to any guest that came around, purred immediately and noisily, and shed his ginger fur like no tomorrow. Our family loved him for over twelve years, coming up with wacky nicknames for him and giving him all the love in the world. Cats are king!

Aw, my last two cats have been tabby cats. Peppermint lived to be 16 and was the sweetest, gentlest cat I've ever known. She loved everybody and put up with a lot of clumsy child hands over the years, accidentally poking her, with good grace. OTOH, I just went to check my 15 year old boy Leo to see if he was a classic tabby, a spotted tabby or a mackerel tabby and got clawed for my trouble (in his defense, I accidentally woke him). Pretty sure he's a classic tabby, like Peppermint. When I first got him just last year, he had a nervous habit of biting his fur out...for a while, I was calling him "The Shabby Tabby". Thankfully he's stopped doing that, and his coat looks much better now.

I've had cats as animal companions since I was child. Four total and fully dedicated to them.
My first was "Snowball" (all white) lived to about 7-8 yrs.old (passed away of cancer), then (on separate occasions) I rescued two tuxedo cats. My longest relationship "Rageous" (17.5yrs old) and shared custody with "KingPin" (11yrs.), both have since passed away. My experience, I see Tuxedos tending to have a playful witty personality. Definitely characters in their own right, possibly @thepurringjournal having a tuxedo cat for its logo representative. 👍😉 🐾🐾
My current feline companion is my first Tabby cat, "Spirit". He was a rescue from the neighborhood and we crossed paths the week Calif. went into lockdown.
He is now 5yrs.old, has strong hunting instincts, and tends to have a protective nature over things. Quite sociable and can be vocal at times and sleeps with me when the temps cool down.
Primarily indoors, he does go outside with his harness and under my supervision.
Honestly, I feel "Spirit" is an amalgamation of previous feline companions. He seems to share qualities from each of them. 🐾🐾😺

Tabby cats are such beautiful cats and have the best purr-sonalities! A huge and gorgeous brown tabby came to us through a neice because even though he was loved in her neighborhood he wasn't allowed in anyone's home. We think a university student had him and when they finished the cat was left behind or got lost. He would cry at my neices window when it rained but her rental had a clause stating no cats allowed due to his allergies. She'd sneak him in but got caught a few times and couldn't afford to move. That's why he ended up here. In no time Tommy became known as the neighborhood cat. He's friends with everyone and gets spoiled with treats and love from people who never ever had a cat. Only thing with this furtastic fellow is- he's got to be Top cat and would beat up our other rescues...well, the people across the street have no cats but love him and treat him like a king. He mostly lives there now but visits us regularly as well as his other human friends. We wish we could of kept him in but he's a free spirit...such a smart guy. He insured he'd always have food by making lots of friends! I only wish he was more faithful but have to let him be free. It sure would be interesting to equip him either one of the wildlife cameras to watch him on his daily travels....best Tabby there is!

Most of these facts just helped confirm my knowledge. In regards to the M marking - my youngest tabby has white marking on his nose and forehead. This means the white marking looks like it is obscuring the M. I have to agree that a Tabby is generally sociable - maybe it's because a group of cats do have definite ways to socialise. This could connect back to their ancestors. My older tabby has mackerel markings - with a broad circular marking that matches on both sides. He has always got along with other cats but is more cautious with people - yet he has always been cuddly & affectionate with myself. Can definitely agree about the intelligence of most tabbys I've encountered.

I swear though he has ADHD, as he may be affectionate at one point and then get all "rawr!!" In like 10 seconds haha! Also a bit impulsive and loves his kibble (a bit too much, he inhales the stuff) but, he is very afraid of loud noises!! 🤣 and his own shadow! He's a funny cat, he loves when people come in to his home, but when he's not in his home (apartment building, he's a runner, he loves to escape) he will hear/see people in the lobby and will RUN back inside the door!!! Also, the slightest thing falling makes his tail go poof!! He's a funny weirdo!

I had a large orange tabby when I was a kid, he came to us as a stray and just took up there. Kind of a neighborhood cat. Mostly lived with us, but begged food of the neighbors too. Mr. Gentle, Mr. Nice guy. May have been part Maine Coon. He had a heavy winter coat, and grew a mane in the winter. He didn't keep himself fastidiously clean like most cats, and we had to bathe him and cut matted fir out. He loved being cuddled, a little girl across the street, was picking him up by his front paws, he didn't care, he was rubbing his face against hers. When I picked him up, he went completely limp and made no effort to hold himself up. You ended up with an 18 pound sack of cat. His goal in life, to be a lap kitty. Now we have another orange tabby, weighs around 10 lb. We rescued him from the shelter. They said his name was Bentley. After my wife signed the papers and paid the fee, the shelter worker, told her, he's been through here before, those other families thought he was a little too "rambunctious." The first two days we had him he mostly laid on her shoulder and purred. Day three, she heard a loud noise as an orange streak flew through the house and collided with the range in kitchen, then turned around and charged back the other way, colliding with something in the back room, then attacks the other cat. Later on he intimidated a 150 lb German Shepherd, and established his place as the alpha pet. Sometimes he runs through the house at high speed and making as much noise as he can, I tell the family that he morphed into Thunder Paws. Other times I've seen him move even faster and not make a sound.

Every day I reminded myself I needed to treat this as if it might be his last [as kittens can die early for various reasons]. I also made sure I gave him as much love and affection as I could so when the night came he was clearly dying I had reached the point where I could let him go with dignity and without tears. He is buried in the garden and I look at his pictures and videos reminding myself just how much he is still loved. Perhaps that thought process might also help you. I hope so anyway.@@paysour3

I have two cats. The first is a typical brown and black tabby. The other is a black cat. They are brothers.
The black is also, in fact, a tabby. He is black on black, so it's almost impossible to see the pattern but under a very bright light you can see a tinge of brown in the coat and the clear shiny M on the forehead and the stripes on the side of the body.

Thanks for the info. I love the markings on my Peeka. She does her eyeliner very nicely. ;)
And she has a spot right at the tip of her nose. So cute.

We have 9 cats, all rescues. Of the 9, we have 2 blacks, 2 torties (1 a dilute tortie/manx), 5 tabbies, a gray and white classical tabby, a gray classical tabby, a ginger and white classical tabby, a ginger mackeral tabby and a ginger ticked tabby. Our babies range in age from 8 years to 2 years. They're a handful but we can't imagine life without them.

I’m glad I clicked on because I learned how tabbies got their name. Years ago we had a very affectionate brown female who we named Lovey. She loved everyone and everyone loved her. Now we have a very spicy torbie that tries to trick guests into petting her so she can scratch them🙁

I didn't know tabby isn't a breed but a category. I have a brown tabby. Excellent hunter of mice and voles, but prefers just the chase for other small animals. Very personable.😺

I got my first "M-Head" about 6 years ago....he's by far the most emotionally intelligent and expressive cat I've ever been owned by....my sister told me once that she believes my cat is my soul mate, in a joking manner, not serious at all but sometimes I wonder...😻😻
