I recently visited the UK's gaming Mecca, a city that might just have the best selection of video game stores, arcades and the strongest gaming community in the entire country! It also happens to be my hometown, so maybe I'm a tad biased.
In this video, we'll go game hunting, check out some entertainment venues and then go over my haul and see what I bought during the trip. If this video doesn't convince you to visit Norwich, I don't know what will.

Last Level Games is a great place, Especially for more obscure stuff! Last time I was there, I bought some Samba De Amigo maracas for the Dreamcast and a steering wheel for the Xbox 360 :D

Hearing the bit about all the Games that closed down is similar for me. I grew up in Lincoln but moved elsewhere due to my dad's job. Since getting back in touch with a friend who lives there, I would periodically visit it, though I noticed post pandemic that the Game I had always visited, as far back as when it was an "Electronics Boutique" in the 90s had changed to (I think) a Mountain Warehouse, or something similar. There is still a Game there, but it's quite off the beaten path and I noticed it too was more toys and games than anything else. That said, I've not been into that store since May 2023 so it may have changed in the nearly one year.
Edit: And second on GameStation! I managed to grab a copy of Castlevania DS in 2006 and an, albiet loose, copy of Buu's Fury from there as well. There used to be a massive one near me that was changed to a Game after the buyout, before being changed to something else when Game stores closed down.

Great video, Sam. I have fond memories of venturing into Norwich while on holiday in Norfolk. Used to save pocket/holiday money and treat myself to a new game when we had our day out in the city. I would recommend Norwich to anyone, whether they like gaming or not, as it's such a pleasant city :)

Last I remember, One Step Games was at the top of the market, though last time I was there, he was selling more DVDs than games.
It's very easy to miss and doesn't stick out.
That said I haven't been in a while so it might not be there.

I was in Norwich before Christmas and was taken around a few of these stores and arcades and thoroughly enjoyed it. Retro Replay was by far the best venue we visited and the one we settled in for the evening. Barcadia had very little in the way of choices as some of the machine were turned off and there was no food being served when we did ask about the machines the owner wasn't very welcoming and behaved like he didn't want our custom so we left and visited a gaming cafe further up the road. All in all Norwich was great and we enjoyed our time at Retro Replay. Another cool place to visit is The Arcade club in bury probably one of the best and its only down the road from Manchester city centre which also has a fair few arcades and gaming venues.

Sorry to hear you had a bad experience at Barcadia. I haven't been to Arcade Club in Bury, but I have been to their Leeds location and that was amazing.

I live in the UK, & have never been to Norwich but I've always wanted to go!
I live about 4hrs away and so it's quite a way away, & so haven't managed it as yet but watching this vid makes me really want to go there now! I last went to Norfolk about 11 years ago probably, but only to the north of the county.

To be honest that has already happened most places like this are closed and a small niche of them are still here for nostalgia.

I do find the criticisms of CEX to be a bit unfair really. Yes the quality of games will vary but that's the nature of selling pre-owned games, especially Retro ones.
Whilst I always buy games that are in good condition and are complete in box, others aren't so fussed so it gives them more opportunities to actually purchase the items they are looking for.
