Try putting a bolt-on limb saver pad on instead of the factory pad i did that to my ruger american ranch 350 legend and it worked great !

I added some weight to the stock, lead shot and it helped, I have a slip on limbsaver I can use if I need it too

Yeah, it's great to see downrange/to see what you're shooting at! (my brain thanks you! haha!) Plus we get more of the setting+atmosphere (and when it is green+trees, that's +++)
it's like we're sitting behind you watching you shoot now

You’re welcome :) now I need better/more cameras, and actual editing software.

@@crankygunreviews eh, I like the home-made simple style, and you do a very good job with the on-screen text and music at times, not sure 'more' would service much - all my feedback isn't complaints, just trying to be friendly+helpful (I think you get that)
a camera on the target would be a bonus, but it's not necessary/works just going up to the targets after you shoot

@@zerpblerd5966 I appreciate your feedback. It’s a lot better than people who show up and criticize everything but don’t provide any content. I can tell you actually enjoy watching, and your suggestions are welcome so I can make viewing better.

@@crankygunreviews unable to shoot myself (haha! english language!), I am living vicariously through you (and some other vids of course) until I am in a location where I can (at which point I'll be online almost not at all, no smart device for me)
perhaps another month until I am moved to ME with some acreage and I can shoot !
but I'll still check back in and watch your stuff on occasion (maybe once a month?)

What kind of bipod do you have on the rifle? And are you happy with it?

It is a CCOP brand from ebay, about $25. They are ok, they don't swivel side to side, so they are best for flat bench or level ground, and they're not particularly heavy duty, but for small and medium calibers, they work OK.

I asked Ruger if I was able to shoot 7.62 Nato and they said they recommend only shooting what's stamped on the barrel that they are not made for Nato rounds but you had no problem do you only shoot 7.62x51 out of yours

I’ve shot both .308 and 7.62 Nato from mine. Both shot fine. With a hitch… when I bought my rifle the only affordable .308 I could get was Wolf military classic steel case. After about 25 rounds, the shells started sticking in the chamber, not extracting. It could have been improperly manufactured ammo, it could have been a coating on the steel case, it could be my rifle doesn’t like steel case… I broke the extractor on the bolt, sent the rifle back to Ruger, and they replaced the bolt, test fired it with hot Andy, and said it was good to go.
Since then, I have run a bunch of 7.62 nato through it, and some more of the Wolf military classic, and it seems to run just fine.
That being said, typically speaking, .308 rifles can shoot 7.62 nato since the 7.62 nato rounds are widely thought to have about 4000-5000 less pressure when fired and the cases can be a little shorter (a few thousandths). The shorter cases could cause issues with ruptured cases, or primer blowout, or something else when firing, but the 7.62 nato rounds also have a slightly thicker case therefore I have not seen any issues with my rifle. I cannot tell you what is right or not, but I have shot 7.62 nato commercial ammo out of mine without issues so far.
This website has a lot of good info-
      sofrep.com/news/whats-difference-308-winchester-ammo-7-62-nato-not-think/
if you’re really worried about it, you could get headspace gauges, check your chamber, and measure several brands of ammo to see what is in spec, and only buy that. From what I have seen on many websites, most of the time 7.62 nato is fine in a 308 rifle, but not the other way around. I would NOT take a military surplus rifle and shoot .308 Winchester out of it due to higher case pressures and thinner case walls.

Why wouldn’t you just shoot 308 ammo, they are gonna have a faster muzzle speed…

Because at the time, 7.62x51 was all I could find.

Well, I’m using the cheapest ammo I can find, a $80 scope, and a $20 bipod so I’m ok with my groups.

    • @scotthyde5946

No problem ! Why not try some Federal Priemium 168 grain Sierra MATCHKING Bullets?? Same price as lesser rounds and probably better for your barrel ?? Why not use a Butt rest when you shoot ?? Many ranges offer those to shooters for free ? If not you can use many things to rest the Butt of your rifle on when you aim?? When I Don’t use a Butt rest, the cross hairs move every time my heart beats ??? What one does is pinch the stock to steady your rifle so you can hold your aim for minuteswithout it moving ?
Other suggestions atr just as simple but you will be shooting about 1.5 moa with those suggestions ?

@@scotthyde5946 I have tried using a sandbag on the Butt plate and it helps. I have many caliber to buy ammo for, so I typically buy moderately priced or cheap ammo for each caliber because I have to buy so many. For me, a 2” or 2.5” group or better at 100 yards is decent- I’m used to shooting Mosin nagants and such, and I’m not a precision shooter, so practical accuracy for me is better than super precision. Sheet of paper sized targets at distances of 100 yards and past if I keep my groups on paper, it’s decent enough for me. I try to get better, and a lot of my inaccuracy is due to time constraints and not enough practicing . I usually only have an hour or two to set up, shoot, clean up, and leave so I often try to cram many videos in that time, so rushing doesn’t help

    • @scotthyde5946
      @scotthyde5946 2 ปีที่แล้ว

Just a note, the reason I said your groups were terrible is because Ruger advertises these rifles to be
1 MOA in Accuracy !! That would generously be 3 bullets in a 1/2 inch group at 50 yards ! The 1/2 inch group is measured from the center of each bullet hole ?? You were getting like 2.5 inch groups at 50 yrds ??? I guess you could call them and ask if they will warrenty that rifle but I think they will just ask you to send it back, then they will shoot it for 1 MOA accuracy and probably charge you for shipping ??? I don’t know ?? You might ask Who_Tee_Who about that on TH-cam, he strongly advocates Ruger American Rifles ????

@@scotthyde5946 shooting cheap steel ammo out of this won’t net great groups- I’m not gonna warranty my rifle - I’ll try to so a follow up sometime.
I talk back and forth with WTW a lot on TH-cam, he usually uses really good hunting ammo when he does groups, and he has much better optics than me and a lead sled. The rifle is more accurate than me
