Well its mostly because we are not accustomed to the whole tipping thing so people may forget to tip or doesn't understand its importance. And those who genuinely avoid tipping are responsible for their actions but that doesn't mean that an entire country is like that. And no amount of lame excuses can justify these actions. And what you've seen in the video is the opinion of some narrow minded conservatives and that doesn't represent the entire nation

If it's a job too stupid for you to do yourself, just do it yourself.Or are you so dumb you can't make yourself happy? Without tips, without pay, there wouldn't be anyone to serve you so you can enjoy yourself with family. A good server isn't just keeping your drink full. They are being mindful of timing between entrees and appetizers, mindful of allergens, keeping people from getting sick, pacing the experience, interacting on your level. Smarter servers can say some shit over your head. Most of us are in college for shit that will baffle you on the most basic level. Keep track of sensitivities and mind every facet of their experience. And do that with 6 other families simultaneously. Make sure they don't get up for anything unless they have to piss. Being good at it isn't enough. Most trainees don't make it more than 13 hours. That's a normal shift for me. But I bring home bank and I'm picking up my second ps4 tomorrow after my full body massage. Slaves don't get that treatment.

I can almost guarantee that Indians are one of the main reasons why restaurants have adopted the 18% added gratuity custom to larger parties. In my 4 years of serving and managing, I have witnessed countless Indian families come in and order servers around like slaves. Many of them also try to bargain their bills by offering expired coupons and saying things along the lines of "hey, I know the manager and he always gives me 15% off."
They are always the first to complain to the manager for the most insignificant of matters but return to dine at the restaurant and leave little to nothing for the tip. It has honestly become very taxing on us servers and none of the managers (including myself) take their concerns/ complaints seriously anymore. Its tough on servers and on us managers too because so many of our servers refuse to wait on them because it's simply not worth the time, effort, and degradation.
It's awful because the Indians I have met outside of work are mostly kind, timid, and modest. In a restaurant setting, however, it's like a switch is flipped and they see the wait staff as unworthy of any compensation.

I just stop talking to you once you don't tip. As a pizza guy this one brown guy didn't tip and then he kept trying to talk to me like nothing is wrong "how is your night going?" I didn't answer and it was epic the look on his face, watching him turn all nervous. Driving the car, those who don't tip, the next time you sit in the backseat - never up front again. Either start tipping or go back to Africa.

I'm a server 40 hours a week. I've seen it all!! I'm not a racist person, whatsoever. I don't look at someone's skin color, and judge. That is wrong. Everyone gets the same service out of me. Are there white people that don't tip all that great or not at all!? Of course, but it's a lot less frequent than Indians/African Americans/Hispanics. I hate even typing that sentence out. I feel like a bad person doing so, but the proof is in the pudding. I do agree with the fact that many people don't know the proper amount to tip or that it's the main source of our income. That 5 dollars you leave on a 20 dollar bill, will help buy someones baby diapers or help pay their copay at their doctors when their sick. I think there should be some sort of tip awareness out there. You also have the people that "argue" that they shouldn't have to tip, because our employer should be paying us minimum wage. Well, if that happened, your 10 dollar burger would now be costing you 20 or 25 dollars. Your soft drink would cost more, and there would be no free refills. So, on paper it sounds like a good idea for servers to get minimum wage, but it's not realistic.
Also, it's beyond irritating when you have a large party of White/African American/Indian/Hispanic and they are running you around like CRAZY and are rude and demanding, and they receive a large bill ie:150.00 and you get 5 dollars as your tip. That table took up a majority of your night and tables. It's a slap in the face!! It ends up costing us money to wait on you. We have to tip out a certain percentage of the bill.
I must say though, that Indian tables RUN YOU AROUND!! One person will be giving you their order, then 4 other people are interrupting you telling you what they "need". Excuse me, but you can wait two seconds for more napkins. And they always need substitutions, because their usually vegetarian. Which I understand, but when I have to substitute EVERYTHING and make sure everything is correct, so you have absolutely no meet in any part of your meal, and you treat me as though I didn't just bust my ass for you, it's sucks.
Sorry I'm ranting right now, but I just wish people understood.

I just finished a shift tonight where I had an Indian party (it's always a group over five people when it comes to Indians). I always give all my tables the best service I can even if/when I'm not expecting a great tip, so I don't get super upset if the tip isn't great, it happens. But it is certainly the case that Indians tend to be awful tippers. In tonight's case the tip was $7.95 on a check that was $182.05, I gave them the happy hour prices on drinks (they were in the restaurant side where these prices are unavailable), I gave their children all free sundaes, I made a special non-alcoholic cocktail for the pregnant woman, and coursed their meal perfectly. I even made them special extra spicy salsa (it is a Mexican restaurant), I got them all special orders (vegetarian) and made sure their bar drinks all came promptly. I prebussed perfectly, kept cleaning up after their horribly behaved children and was super courteous the entire time. I don't always expect great tips cuz I know some people don't have a lot of money or just don't know how to tip appropriately, but $7.95 on $182.05? I thought I would at least get 10%, but no. Seven bucks. It's just messed up, after tip-out it means I get $2.00, I don't "hate" Indians, or even this particular family, but it is bad to do that to a server. You can tell me I should get a different job, or even suggest that maybe my service wasn't as good as I am claiming, but regardless it is an awful tip. I'm just wondering how they even arrived at $7.95 to begin with. Why not just tip me nothing? I would've been happier getting nothing. Talk about insulting tips? If you are so concerned with insulting people learn to tip correctly.

But people aren't being racist when they complain about it, nine times out of ten you are going to get a cap tip from Indians no matter how good the service is. Nobody should be hated because they don't tip well, and it doesn't mean they are inferior or bad people, but it is a bad thing to do. But in India thats very high. The only people who earn more are good engineers, and people with businesses(who dont pay taxes)

That's a very valid and insightful explanation. I know a lot of people are probably leaving negative comments about your video but it's the truth. I've traveled to several different countries, being an airline employee, and one of the things I look into before visiting are things to do or not do as a sign of respect to another's culture. However, that being said, Indian visitors and residents in the US don't seem to give that same courtesy to Americans in that respect. I've been doing Uber/Lyft since the beginning of this year and not once as any Indian passenger ever given a tip for good service. So it's gotten to the point where it's jot even worth the effort with them and to just do the bare minimum (not help them with their luggage, not ask if the temperature is comfortable for them, not ask about music preferences,etc.). Not complaining at all, it's just more so the fact that they don't oh the same reverence for the culture here, like they'd expect from those where their culture is the primary culture. I completely understand how they feel about it but just like when I was in Japan where tipping is more frowned upon. I didn't feel comfortable not tipping for amazing service but out of respect for their norms did not tip. Why can't Indians, or any race for that matter that has similar views not do the same where their core culture is not the dominant one.

The food is cheaper than it should be because you are the servers boss for that moment in time. Would you stop paying your employees to see if they genuinely wanted to be there? All I hear is you want to test if people will submit to your abusive authority with a smile (ie victim testing). In Anglo culture no man shall be ordered around without just and due compensation, otherwise it is called slavery.......which (not) ironically is still a huge problem in India.

In the USA servers generally don’t make enough money off salary alone and it is expected that their level of service is repaid by tips. If you get really bad service obviously no tip but good service pretty much requires you tip. I used to work in restaurant industry and knew many servers who would sneeze, spit or even jack into peoples food because they had seen them at the restaurant before and gotten no tip. People that use waiters services and don’t tip are just users. Tipping is not meant to be a handout it is the actual salary these waiters are getting in most cases and helps keep the good ones employed while weeding out the bad ones. If everyone was cheap and didn’t tip we would stop having nice restaurants or the food would just cost more and then the waiters could be complete crap and get away with it everytime because they are no longer on performance based system.

You say that a smile is enough, rather than a tip. Well smiles doesn't pay the bills. Certain services (food delivery, Waiting tables, or transport) depend on those tips. It's easy to say that 1 or 2 dollars doesn't make a difference. But when wait staff, has to service 15-20 tables, those "small tips" adds up. When people come to your country, they should respect your country's culture. In turn, our culture should be respected. Americans are just as frugal, and yet they to tip for services. Yes but there are millions of resturaunts and billions of customers but this one culture purposely doesn’t tip when many other cultures do. Maybe don’t go to restaurants that pay their employees with tips if you plan not to pay it unless you get a bunch of free stuff and attention because you are not the only customer. That’s not how tips work it’s not supposed to be earned for a “act of kindness” it’s literally part of the minimum wage they earn for their entry level job. It seems Indians who believe in paying for value would be happy to pay extra for those extra sauces but NOOO they EXPECT it! I’m sorry to point out that hosts feel really badly for servers the moment Indian family comes in and expects a chain resturaunt employing teenagers is supposed to have all these “kind acts” of giving away free stuff and all that service for $2 an hour!!! Yeah $2 an hour without tips in America for servers. Then you blame the entry level employee for accepting an entry level job that doesn’t pay. They selfishly don’t tip , then they gaslight the employee. It’s A LOT of Indian culture guests in American resturaunt establishments. If you want to tip for those special kindness gestures then you can pay more than 15% to show that appreciation and 15% is expected from the server so everybody’s expectations fail when Indians walk into American restaurants.. Just go to an Indian restaurant in America and don’t tip your own culture.

here in missouri, the restaurant base wage is $3.75 with minimum wage being $7.50. no matter what, you will make at least minimum wage by law no matter what customers tip you. servers here get paid by check every 2 weeks which is where the restaurant compensates you to bring you up to at least minimum wage. however, servers also walk out everyday with the tips they made that day minus their daily tipouts to counter, hosts and bussers. this is where it gets vague: when you clockout, servers have to declare their credt card tips in order to clock out. they're supposed to declare their cash tips as well, but in my experience, most don't (because restaurants can't track cash tips). it may be a lot more work for a server to process cash paying customers, but at the end of the day, in spite of the work it involves to personally make change, we prefer cash. I work in a restaurant because I love my coworkers with all their sad and happy drama. I work in a restaurant because I walk out with a wallet that's a little fatter everyday.

It’s 2019 and things have changed. In Canada and the USA, not sure about India. But tipping is very important, most people don’t realize that servers make less than minimum wage! And have to tip out 4.5% of our sales to the rest of the staff. That includes dishwashers, expos, hosts, cooks. If you do not tip, servers have to take money out of their own pocket to provide the money for the rest of the staff. Just because you tip 2.00 doesn’t ensure that money will actually go to the server. Let’s say your bill is 30.00 tipping 10% of this bill would be 3.00, the server would tip out $1.35 to the other staff, leaving them with $1.65. Tipping should always be 15% if the service was good. If you cannot afford to tip don’t eat out. Simple. You should be grateful to be in this country.

It’s so funny cuz I have been to Several Indian restaurants where the waiters and owner were all extremely rude. But you guys come to the restaurants I’ve worked at and expect us to kiss your asses and treat you like you are our masters and wee are servants. Not cool. Everytime I have ever waited in Indian tables when I was a server they were always bad tippers and extremely rude and talked to me like a sub human. If you move to this country you need to adapt to our way of life. I’m sure if weathers moved to India you guys would throw us in jail for not following your strict customs
. Also FYI if you don’t have an id or passport (no a photo of one on your phone does not count as that could be photoshopped) you are not gonna get served alchol. Period. Don’t argue it. Its literally our law here and if a servers serves you we can at the minimum have to pay at 10,000 fine but in most instances you just go to jail. Also the restaurant will lose their liquor license and face having to go to court if you end up in a accident. I can’t tell you how many times I have had young I Indian people throw huge bitch fits because they don’t have an id or “forgot it” or whatever other excuse. Then they always have a friend who is “smarter” than me who will try to order two drinks so that they can pass it to the person who forgot their id which again is against the law and in like 48 states you can’t order two drinks at a time legally. No wonder indian is such a bad country to live. No one there seems to like to follow laws.

If you immigrate to another country or are just visiting you should respect that countries culture, you left your country for a reason, don't try to transform us into your culture, you absorb ours or leave.
    Why would I say this?
Waiters and Waitresses in western countries depend on your tips to support their families and also to contribute to a healthy economy.
This Isn't India, This is not about your culture and your beliefs , this is about you coming to another country with no regard for local culture or beliefs, and trying to blame your culture on your poor etiquette.
In most to all cases not tipping or barely tipping your waiter means that they now lose money by serving you. Most restaurants make the waiter tip out about 3.5 to 5 % of their total sales at the ends of the night. So, if you don't tip or barely tip your waiter (regardless if you do, or don't), that waiter has to pay 3.5 to 5% of your total bill to the house. THAT is why you should and MUST tip your waiters anywhere from 10% to 25% of your bill because. A) they make less then minimum wage in some cases and B) and most importantly THAT IS WHAT IT IS LIKE IN OUR CULTURE!!
When in Rome do as Romans do, When in India, Do as Indians do, And when in the West, Do as Westerners do.

The general problem with you're argument is that it doesn't fit for The American economic system: People in the service industry don't make enough money to live so we base our income on tips. Usually 20% or more of whatever your bill is. Yes 20% so that means if you spend $100 on a meal it is custom to leave a minimum of $20. We have had this culture instilled since the age of prohibition when our country went through the Great Depression. It's not that people are being facetious when they work for tips it's that they know that good customer service usually means a show of gratitude from the customer in the form of money. If you don't want to tip then go places where they pay their workers a livable wage.

It's 2022 and i work at fine dining. Indians have become big problem in the restaurant that it gets to the point that you are willing to pay another server to serve an indian table. Kitchen hates it too with all this modifications to their ordered. Allot of times they are so disrespectful it feels like they think they are the only customers or table you are serving when you have other tables that are so much easier to give service to but they will tip more. Even when you can add 20% gratuity it doesn't matter since they stay for so long they ask for so much and spend so little most of the time. It's very stressful just to see an indian family come to the door and you hoping it won't be seated to you. It's a really sad reality to get to this point because they are nice people. Most ot the time they will tip 10% and i have to pay 4% tipshare to the bussers and bartenders if they tip $20 out of $200 tab i have to pay 8 dollars out of my own pocket leaving me with 12 while serving other tables where i get $50 dollar tip work allot less and they stay less for the most part. I'm not racist in any way but I wish we could hire an indian person and let him take care of all of his kind while getting paid $2.25 and hour see how it feels. Allot of time i think they know how restaurant service works and they still tip so little. Worst part is when they leave they tell you how amazing everything was while tipping you $5 dollars it's very sad. Wish someone could tell them in their radio or their church or any magic way of how the restaurant business world sees them.

For the very fact there is a video on this, it speaks volumes to how the American culture as a whole interprets non-tipping culprits. There are many holes in what you said, however. You mention this as if they are IN India. When I go to Mexico, I embrace their culture. Not the other way around. That is the essence of humility, humanity and gratitude. Second to note: Every Indian restaurant ( and I mean EVERY Indian restaurant) I have been to has tips as part of their point of sale. They GLADLY accept tips. But they don’t give them…. That’s odd. If the thought of tipping would be offensive was true in their culture, I would think they would take they would take that part out and would not be in 100% of the restraints I’ve been to. I can attest that Indians almost never tip. When they do, it’s usually just a few bucks. I do see it as, Indians gladly take tips but do not give them.

@@secondchannelextearp7 During my time in school, I worked as a server in various restaurants. I've never encountered situations where my wages were lowered because of receiving tips, although I acknowledge this might happen in a few places. What I want to emphasize is that in the United States, tipping when dining out is a well-known practice. It's puzzling why some people choose to act unaware of this cultural norm. While it's not mandatory for customers to tip, adapting to the local culture is expected when in a new country. If there are financial difficulties, cooking at home might be a more suitable option. When choosing to dine out, it's essential not to create an uncomfortable situation. I don't mean to single out any specific group, like Indians; I have two close Indian friends myself. However, during my time as a server, I noticed that tips from Indian customers were often minimal or nonexistent, leading to a general dislike among restaurant staff. This has unfortunately contributed to a stereotype of Indians being perceived as frugal. Interestingly, one of my Indian friends who worked in an Indian restaurant shared similar experiences with tipping.

A lot of times, it comes from the heart. I'm a server and I like to treat my guests how I'd want my family to be treated. I get in Indian culture it isn't a common thing, but here in America it is. It's a cultural thing to show appreciation and gratitude for providing an exceptional service. In America, it is an insult to not leave a tip or tip lower than the percentage of the bill. Also, most Indian families I wait on are demanding and constantly run me back and forth. Anyway, adjust to American culture and tip appropriately. Servers live off their tips here. We have kids and bills too. Don't go out to eat if you aren't going to tip- that goes for everyone.
