CGC put themselves in this position because they wanted to keep the buck rolling. Now they are going to have to dig themselves out to keep the buck rolling. The community needs to be tough on CGC to restore trust and integrity.
Third party graders need to have more transparency. I think a good idea would be to add more process details on the cert lookup screen. If I look up a cert number, I should see a list of actions that were taken (or not taken) by the grader to certify the comic book. Unfortunately, something like that would require the grading company to check all the boxes without any shortcuts. They 100% don't want that because it exposes them to having more culpability in their process.
This is the thoughtful video we needed! And brother, you nailed it!! Big fan of the perspectives you’ve shared. And 🙏🏼🙏🏼🙏🏼 thank you so much for the love and support! Much appreciated!
Great video! Insane that this has been going on for who knows how long? Hard to imagine there wasn't some kind of assistance somewhere. Looking forward to the find out stage of all this.
A third party company is still needed in the collectibles industry. The need to ensure that your collectible is authentic and has been verified to be authentic, should be the main purpose for such a company. However, when the company doesn't keep that service standard as the primary objective, it leaves the integrity of the company and is purpose, open to scammers and loses its credibility. I have bought CGC slabbed books, but i have never submitted any of my raw books to be graded. I was not okay with being charged a premium fee if my book received a higher grade than I initially thought and also for the big difference in cost of grading higher valued books from lower valued books. The potential for fraud has always been there with CGC, but nobody seemed to care as long as they were making money from it. It's only when it gets flipped on them that its now a problem.
Since the vast, vast majority of the graded books I own were my own submissions, I know that they are what they are. Even if thousands of books are compromised, that still means almost every book in a slab is what it says it is.
💯 Same. Ive always said one of the best things about how i like to collect is I love that i earn each encapsulation and grade by finding, cleaning, pressing and submitting each book personally.
Being new to the comic book collecting world I have learned a lot from watching your channel and watching Into the Void. With that said I feel that something like will make CGC and other grading companies start to grade books harder than before. I could be wrong but it seems that they are going to have to tighten up to rebuild their reputation. As always great content. I appreciate the work you put into your videos. This will hopefully help me to gain some books that are out of my price range. Appreciate the info.
Thanks Zim! I agree, their reputation is rough. I think within their entire system, the grading department needs the least work and hopefully they see that. They need to fix this and other quality control issues.
Just went and refreshed my memory. Yes I remember now. They are not perfect by any means. Never said they were… But yes they need to improve on multiple fronts.
Not enough ppl are talking about the CGC team who works in the REHOLDER Department... They suck... Who else is letting these fraudulent cases slide?? They are 1st line of defense aren't they? As you said, they must not be looking at these REHOLDER submissions very well ... Maybe CGC will get rid of the service temporarily.
Think of it simply. You buy something. You of course would look at whatever you bought to make sure it is what it is. Why would I as a buyer believe what you sold me is what it is unless I have VISIBLE PROOF, what I am buying is what I am buying! The concept of CGC has been exposed as flawed. I'm telling you right now, unless I submitted the books to CGC myself, I couldn't be confident in anything CGC says.
I totally agree with your comments regarding anti-graders! I will continue to use CGC. I just hope they learn from this. Sad there always has to be criminals out there.
If you have any visible evidence in your certificate number or case that suggests fraudulent activity, you can email CGC at Reportfraud@collectiblesgroup.com
I’ve been buying Cgc since 2005. I’m about to hit 2500 slabs. I still trust in Cgc. They are a victim of a bad actor. I’ve never bought from this seller. They need to find out how he did this and take steps it doesn’t happen again. This is an incredible small amount of books compared to the millions graded.
So, if cgc comes up with a more secure product, and that's what everybody wants going forward are yall going to break all them old books out, and get them graded again? Sounds like a win win for cgc. Could that be the evil plan? 😂
Nah, they are at the top. Itd be the most idiotic company gamble in history… No need to risk entire company on a whim that people will reslab books that dont have the business being slabbed in the first place. Many of the CGC graded market are books that dont deserve to be slabbed for financial gain lol CGC will pay hundreds of thousands for this.
What WE can do? I'm not involved in this incident, I don't send comics to any grading company, I read and enjoy a small number of current titles and 95% of my reading is cheap back issues and trades. If others want to play the grading market then they should be aware of the risks, just like playing the stock market or investing in coins or stamps - there are unfortunately thieves in every area of investment. In the end though this has nothing to do with me.
I've got nothing against your video, it's well made and and your points may well be valid. I just object to the implication that I should care enough to become involved simply because I read comics. Graded books are simply not part of my comics experience. Nevertheless I do wish you all the best with your channel. @@paperchasecomics
I get that for sure, man 👍🏼 And thanks for the positive feedback I didnt mean to insist every collector needed to do something. Just anyone who feels like it may affect them or their collection. Of course no hard feelings 🙌👊🏼

There’s always version C - they got hold of, or manufactured their own unused cases. Piece of cake at that point.

Im going to put the Danny Dupcake CGC controversy above this one, it's a very close second tho.
Feeling especially validated about my comment on your "Grading Is A Scam!" vid now -- there isn't just ONE flaw in the CGC process lol c'mon
Just went and refreshed my memory. Yes I remember now. They are not perfect by any means. Never said they were…

Basically, always confirm if a book has been reholdered.

I was ok but then after watching this video I am worried that civilization is doomed. Maybe I should watch again.
I mean I thought that risk had been obvious for some time lol
I bought a Hulk 181 recently for around 8300 how can I find out if it’s actually the book the grade represents?

This whole thing reeks of Frank, I hope they’re investigating him 😂
Lamo! That SOB… it probably is him. 😂

You started the video by saying it is a dark, dark time, do you mean the genocide of Palestinians?
Its a comic book channel.
