    Great advice me being a comic collector / seller , i was born 1991 so I collected all the 90’s Todd McFarland collection and my grandfather has a few grails the he passed down to me that I still have. But this was great advice because I love the artwork on modern comics but understand the value and resale is like night & day to vintage. You’re also absolutely right on knowing which comics should be graded. Great video brother!

    If people find it a fun way to make extra money to pay for some of their comics then I’m happy for them but I’m sorry I’m not working a second job to pay for something I do for fun on my own schedule. I’m not going out and searching for books I don’t want. I’m not waking up early and going to garage sales and flea markets. Some people enjoy it I know but that’s not fun to me. I’m not scouring the internet for good deals on comics I think other people might like. I’m not bagging and boarding other people’s comics and then listing and packaging them and dropping them off at the post office. That’s time and effort that I’d rather be putting into something else, some other activity I enjoy. The way I’ve collected all these years is I buy what I like and I never buy more than I can read, I don’t like having comics in my collection I haven’t read. And this has served me well. I never have to worry about the value of comics going to zero because there can be no hardship, I have no money “invested” in them, I’m not relying on their value whatsoever.

    I appreciated and resonated with most of the points you made in this video segment. However, I collect what I love, regardless of its potential ROI. For me, it’s purely a hobby but (and this is important) I'm financially secure, so I don’t have to worry about return on investment-my comic purchases come from disposable income. Like you, I hunt for comics in general, not just specific titles, always looking for the best deals. Overall, great video!

    I have to admit, that whenever i have
    the weekends off from my workplace,
    i always drop by at the flea markets
    and the thrift markets and look for
    some old comic books - mostly of the 1960's, 1970's and 1980's.
    I also look for the drawing tutorial books,

    Great video and great advice!! I’ve been collecting on and off for a very long time but I started collecting full throttle 3 years ago and I’ve learned a lot. I only buy what I want for my own personal collection. I’m a completist so I am focused on completing several runs from the bronze age currently. I only buy raw Comics so they can be read and enjoyed fully. This is my first time seeing your video and I think I will subscribe to your channel. Keep up the good work. 😎

    I am always on the hunt for deals. Never pay full price for a modern key from last 20 years. I found Mighty Thor 1 for $1, Miles first Ultimate Spiderman run 1 to 28 for $1 each, and I just picked up UF4 first print for 50 cents. All these books I wanted badly, but I knew I could possibly find them cheap and I did. If you have extra stuff trade it for keys you need or want. Cash is king, but so is your patients.

    Graded ultra modern comics(past 10 years) sell really good better than older books from my experience. Has to be a key or low print run variant with cool cover art. I go by Condition>Rarity>Desirability>Price>Age. My best advice is to only buy stuff that you WANT, if you have a item that you don't want to sell and keep for your PC, that is probably a good item. Buying bargain basement deals will get you stuck with inventory that are slow movers, some sellers can move that stuff faster than others. When I list an item I want watchers within the first day of listing.

    I think if you are going to speculate, you need to actually enjoy doing a lot of research on secondary characters and under the radar comics.
    Around ten years ago, I started looking into all the characters systematically. Secondary characters to big characters or just characters recent characters that had potential.
    I picked up things like Young Avengers 1 (Kate Bishop, Wiccan), Black Panther 1 (Okoye and Nakia), Black Panther 2 (Shuri), ASM Annual 16 (Monica Rambeau), and new ones like first Riri Williams or Miles Morales, for the equivalent of cover price or less, even just a buck, for handfuls of all of these in VF or NM condition. None of them will be worth megabucks, but they will also likely never be just a couple of bucks again either.
    Lots of others that could yet make it to the big screen.
    It also makes me look forward to and enjoy their screen appearances. Charactets I probably wouldn't really have cared about otherwise. Because I spent so little money on them, I'm not sitting there worrying that their screen appearance doesn't maintain massive hype. These characters will stick around, even if they don't become the main characters. Some of them will. On average, it is a massive gain.
    Didn't go anywhere near things like first America Chavez or Ms. Marvel with the inflated prices.
    Do research and be disciplined and it will work out well

    I agree with everything except "funding the hobby" but that is just my opinion. In my experience, the amount of time and effort you have put into finding and flipping a comic for a profit you could have logged in extra time at your work or found a part-time job or a side hustle and would have gotten a better return on investment. My thought process is just different than yours...You work, find, and flip that is how you earn those books. Me I just work extra hours at my current job but I still get the satisfaction of earning that book.

      I'm not doing bad at flipping. I just buy the stuff I like and then they get placed in two piles. One to keep and one to sell or trade. I may lose a little money on some of them, but who cares, it's entertainment, if I go see a movie, i'm never getting any of the money back. If I get back $2 on a $4 book, I have recovered half of my entertainment dollar. Works for me.

    • @WhatIsOntheComicRack
      @WhatIsOntheComicRack หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@davidallen4026 Your point about recovering half the cost is my mindset these days. When I buy a comic I think to myself, "Well I can get part of my money back on this one day or more importantly my family can get something back from this item when I pass away." So if I bought something for $50 and I sell it for $25, it really only cost me $25 and I got the entertainment out of it like you said.

    Don't agree on the 9.8s or bust. Most collectors don't have the money to shell out for 9 8s. I make a Lot of money on books valued 75 to 100 bucks. A 200 dollar or more book sale in today's market at a show doesn't happen as often as you think.

    • @paperchasecomics
      @paperchasecomics  หลายเดือนก่อน

      Most modern books that arent a 9.8 right now arent even valued at $75 - $100.
      Many of the modern books worth grading you need to hit a 9.8 or its not even worth $75-$100.
      Just look at go collect.
      id say 80 percent of Modern books at least that arent a 9.8 arent even pulling in $75.. and if you are making bank on $75-$100 dollar slabs thats great... it goes with what i said in the video..
      what are you into the book for.
      You buy a book at $25 bucks or higher and slab it and sell it for $75... your profit margin is so thin its not worth the time... but if youre hitting dollar and two dollar bins and getting something thats valued at $75 graded then yeah, youre doing it right.
      but i mentioned this formula in the video...

    I just buy what I want when I want. It’s really not any deeper than if you don’t really make great money you shouldn’t spend outside your means, if
    you accomplish a certain tax bracket it really doesn’t matter anymore how much you spend because you will just recoup it without selling shit. I could care less if I pay 10 for a comic that only sells for 1 in 5 years because I buy to keep, if I was buying stuff to hope it sells for more down the line to profit that’s my sign I need to figure out just how to make more money in the real world so it doesn’t matter. I’m a grown adult responsible for my own decisions. Don’t ever get into a hobby because you think you will profit from it. Just investing in anything with compound interest, a basic 401k is where to put your money if you’re trying to grow it, then you can buy whatever you want in 10 years. Just figure out how to be more successful in the real world and you can buy what you want.
