Cant really say hes a rapper. Hes kind of in the middle between pop and hip hop like Drake or j cole for example. Thing is that Russ has great songs and anyone can tell he is objectively very talented, but lacks substance and grace in his songs, lyrics, as well as off the air. His songs often sound passionate and you feel like you can relate to them, but in its core its just talking about him "fucking your girl" or "becoming famous despite everyone doubting him".

I've been a Russ fan for at least two, maybe two and a half years, so I don't know much about his come up but I've watched him blow up. I can tell you a few things that I've seen as a hip-hop fan about Russ:
He rose to prominence from the ground up, the internet definitely helped him find his audience (Check out how he blew up after being on Swagytracks) but he spent about 7 to 8 years grinding in Atlanta and the Southeast before people took notice. Unlike rappers like Desiigner and Lil (Insert name here) who release one album, song, or mixtape and blow up. So he's learned a lot, grinded a lot, and seen a lot of BS in the industry.
That being said, he is definitely conceited and arrogant. The man talks about selling out tours without any openers, yet I've been to his show that featured an opener. He talks about how nobody is doing what he's done. That's BS, it's like Lil Dicky saying he's the only one to do comedy rap despite Eminem making comedy songs like My Band in the early 2000s.
But at the end of the day Russ makes great music, he's put out more free music than most artist create in their entire career, and he actually seems like a caring guy that takes care of his family. I think the moral of the story is, if you do something for a decade and finally succeed, you'll probably talk yourself up a lot too.

I used to like Russ, then I went to a concert here in Eugene, OR. He whined about being sick, he came on stage late and drunk and was freaking out about there being any water on the stage. He actually stopped mid song to have water cleaned up. The some idiot from the crowd through something at him, he stopped the show, incited a crowd to attack this guy and then his security came and beat the guy up with his consent. Russ has talent musically but he is one sad man, he lost me as a fan that day.

DamnPapi being confident is showing confidence without putting it into words. Going around and trying to better then everyone and knocking other peoples style of music down is not what you do. As a artist at his caliber you are met to look at all music as art and find meaning into to make your songs better and be more apart of the community. Yes he's super cocky which is a huge turn off to his music. I love G-eazy you might listen to his songs a be like he's cocky but he really isn't. Watching all of his interviews and seeing how he truly as a person really makes me appreciate his music more cause he's a such a down to earth dude who is passionate with his work and he doesn't say he's the greatest at all. So yes Russ needs to work on that and be less condescending.
