1980 John Deere 4440 Vintage Tractor Restoration | Floresville FFA 2024 Chevron TRC Entry

After picking up the tractor, I took a lot of pictures, ordered manuals, and began taking the tractor apart. I kept everything organized and made lists of parts and condition. The sheet metal, fuel tank, engine, and cab were the first things to come off. The cab went home with me so I could work on it at home at night. The tractor stayed at school where I worked before, during, and after school. The local John Deere dealer loaned me specialized tools to get the tractor back together. Parts were inspected for wear, rust, and pitting. If the parts passed inspection, they went back into the tractor. Otherwise, they were replaced. After reassembly, everything was washed and painted. The cab and tractor were put back together the first week of February, two weeks before our first major show. This was a huge project that has led to big learning opportunities.
