- When I found out that there is actually a double-decker still flying, commercially, taking passengers, how could I not go there to take a ride? I was travelling through Kyrgyzstan and Uzbekistan, and this was definitely one of the highlights. Flying on a 55 year old Antonov 2p. A double decker. A type of plane I thought had been obsolete since before WWII. But there it was, in all of its glory. And I had a ticket to ride.
The ticket price for return ticket Fergana - Sokh was a very reasonable $30. No service on board. Soft seats. No belts required. And no turning off the cell phones.
This video can in no way portray the experience. The sound, the smell, the view, the tack-off, and the landing? An experience of a lifetime!
Great flying machine sounds powerful good 👍👌
I like Dem, makes me think back in da days.
The real Soviet workhorse and still widely used in Russia. SU and Russia could not do without them: The AN-2 first flew in 1947. By 1960 the USSR had produced over 5,000 units Since 1960, most An-2s have been built at Poland’s WSK factory in Mielec, with over 13,000 !
Indeed! It was also produced under license in China until 2013. Testament to its great design!
Sounds vry bad, like da engine gonna pack up
Maybe. I dunno what happened after the flight. But it worked flawlessly for the whole flight.
