Yes, hand lettering is my therapy along with other hobbies, but it pairs best for me with journaling. I was drawn to hand lettering simply because I love pens and pretty hand writing! I love writing things down so making it look pretty is even better! It became and therapy for me when I started a daily journaling/planning as my husband struggles with Alcohol and my kids are pre teens. It was time for me to have something to do but was not super costly and could be done anytime anywhere. My favorite thing to have hand lettering are bible quotes and highlights of our day and then journaling my thoughts around the hand lettered highlights. I put very little thought into the layout and just go with it! I even at times spell words wrong and just leave them and keep going its one of my only hobbies when my perfectionism doesn't get in my way, but im still way far from publishing anything I have created because they are super personal and still need to work out more of my style. I'm also going through your book to learn more about bounce lettering!! I got to also tell you I have been in the hand lettering community for about 3 years now and just found you a few weeks ago and you have completely cured my saggy bottom and helped my lettering so much! I still can't seem to master the Crayola marker lettering but I have found brush pens that I love and work well for me! Thanks for all you do! Your a wonderful instructor and I'm itching to sign up for skillshare and take your classes!
I know EXACTLY what you mean when you were talking about "love and confusion can exist in the same place"... so much that I teared up. My 14 month old daughter just WOULD NOT SLEEP last night until midnight!!! She has to be out the door at 8am for preschool!!! She is the light of my life, but also the biggest source of stress in my life too!? I feel so seen and heard right now 😭

That you will grab a bunch of pens and immediately put them in order by color... purple to blue to green to yellow to orange to red and back to purple! It's the exact thing I've ALWAYS done when I try to practice lettering. You've inspired me in so many ways. Thank you. ❤

This is such a good list. Number 3 is my favorite! (Ps yes! Letter all the T. Swift lyrics!) I love music and lettering lyrics is a nice way to switch off my brain and just zen out. Haha yes!! Digital lettering might work for you! Do you use GoodNotes? I recently learned that you can make notebooks for GoodNotes and now I want to make one that would be like this journal!

In a HS writing class we learned writing poetry in public places by putting down the words that caught your ear, I do this listening to podcasts or out and about to practice my handwriting, too.
are there any letters you find yourself still struggling with even tho you’ve been handlettering for a while?.... w, r (in normal cursive they do my head in as well lol), and s seem to be mine, and l... i can do an l by itself just fine but connecting a letter to it and the loop just doesn’t look that nice.
does anyone know any good freebie handlettering worksheets? I really really want to buy the ones listed in the description but im a minor so i cant buy them :(

Funny story Years ago I lettered my bestie who was kinda my crush ig I used to letter the name sof my frds all of them but his was intresting so I did it alot When he found out he was concerned it was unhealthy for soem reason so he stopped talking to me for few months Then one day I explained iw a sjust practiceing lettering then he was like ohhhhhh my bad 😂
