It's hard to believe that an experienced drone pilot wouldn't think to check local laws. I wonder if he was just doing the "Better to ask forgiveness than to ask and be told "No" philosophy? If so, doing that in a foreign country is not smart. I'm guessing he was an experienced pilot because he had a technical goal that would not be something a beginner taking the thing out of the box could accomplish.

Why do people take it upon themselves to make decisions and do what they want in public without checking and asking for permission? It is just stupid to do it in another country. Ask, call the cruise line, call the basilica, if you can't get answers, assume that the answer is No, you can't.

they're still rebuilding Notre Dame. What made them think they could use a drone in 1. an active construction site 2. a world heritage site and 3. a massive tourist site that could be targeted for terrorist attack ? Use a little bit of common sense people
