Next up should be “Stand Up” Cynthia wrote the song which was nominated for best song . She was nominated again for best actress that year for Harriet (Tubman). See the performance she sang at the Oscars. The fact that that song didn’t win was criminal
Please do Cynthia's I'm Here performance, live on stage on YT by ColourPurpleLover, it's phenomenal and shows exactly why she won a Tony, Emmy, Grammy and is 2 times Oscar nominated.
@@anitawatkins2746 that is 2 clips put together, she (Cynthia) sung that at the Tonight Show and Jennifer Hudson sung it for Oprah, the live version on stage is superior in all facets.
You are right, but I think that was definitely intentional for this performance. This song is solemn and I think it's almost more effective for her to have that restraint. She isn't at 100% power, but her technique here is still just as steadfast as it is in her more powerful performances. She is a marvel.
Cynthia Erivo has so much technique and power that she uses only what she needs to bring out the emotional resonance of the song. She has nothing to prove. It's all about communication with her.
Cynthia's voice is like crystal - so clear and precise. It cuts through and pierces the air. She's a trained soprano with all the gifts - but she also has the connection - emotions flow through her body when she sings. Just the most wonderful performer AND one of the great vocalists and song stylists of our time. There are many performances other than Wicked that she can be appreciated for. She has toured concert halls from The Hollywood Bowl to Royal Albert Hall. She already has TWO Oscar nominations, a Tony and a Grammy. Watch her sing "I'm Here" on Colbert. It's heartbreaking AND powerful. Or Imagine, by John Lennon - it's on youtube. Her performance of Nothing Compares to You shows off a whole other side of her vocal ability. She and Kelly C sing a shimmering duet of When You Wish Upon A Star too. Cynthia is a true soprano who can BELT! She doesn't excel at Whitney and Aretha numbers - though she can hit the notes for sure - but her voice doesn't have the weight or the mezzo fullness that those two legends possessed. Erivo's voice is pristine. Listen to her go all the way up into the coloratura when she sings "Imagine" in that coffee shop. Cynthia's voice is very emotional to me. Exquisitely beautiful.
If you are late to the Cynthia show like I am, the rabbit hole is deep and glorious. The full concert at Royal Albert Hall is a good stating point. For individual jaw droppers, my favorite are, I'm Here, Nothing Compares to You, and "And I Am Telling You I'm Not Going." Her collaborations are also great. Killing me softly, and." I did something bad" at the Apollo with Shoshara Bean come to mind.
Welcome to the Cynthia rabbit hole, you’ll never be able to leave. 😂 Please, react to her I Am Here performance from Broadway, Nothing Compares To You… And if you want to hear her acapella singing a bunch of songs watch her Terrell interview (a two part video). Her voice acapella, my God, it leaves me speechless.
She has an amazing cover of Whitney Houston’s “I wanna dance with somebody “, i highly recommend it and the tribute to Earth, Wind and Fire is really good too!!
You guys need to watch her performance of Prince's Nothing Compared 2 U performance, also at the Kennedy Center, just not for an honors. She is a vocal BEAST. Also, her performance of I (Who Have Nothing) at the Royal Albert Hall is one of the best live vocal performances of the modern day. PLEASE more of her, even if it isn't those videos. 💚
Uh, she’s ridiculously good. She did a Aretha Franklin biopic and OH MY GAWD!! I didn’t know I needed Cynthia and Aretha at the same time but I did. Her other performance at the Royal Albert Hall it’s a concert of just her.
You should also check out Grace VanderWaal performance of "The Impossible Dream", at Kennedy Center Honors. Her dark, soulful and powerful rendition is amazing.
There is a clip you may not be able to use for your show but should see and it is her performance of I am Here from the Color Purple-there are some of her performing it, but the one you need to see is the one live of the actual show. Her peformance of Stand Up from Harriet for the academy awards is incredible. And her ability to perform Aretha Franklin is also to be seen. I could go on. She is a force to be reckoned with. I can’t get enough of her or her first album. Enjoy.
Ain’t No Way (Aretha Franklin) at bbc Proms is one of my favorite I’ve found of her. But really there’s so much…I’d also listen to I’m Here from Color Purple, and Eidelwiess for Julie Andrews
there's a ton of good suggestions for more cynthia stuff, but I think I'll throw in her "Nothing Compares 2 U". her version is more prince than sinead and it is fantastic
I would recommend reacting to her singing 'I who have nothing' from her performance at 'BBC Proms'. It's my fave performance of hers and is garunteed to give you chills! Link - th-cam.com/video/MsuTry3Dw6I/w-d-xo.html

Why do I feel like she's only giving 50%? I feel like if she gave 100% we would die from euphoria. We're not worthy!! She makes it look so easy

I used to hate this song and it’s like Cynthia is first to tell this story. I understood its meaning. The purity of the performance is its brilliance
@@KarenTecottExactly! Well said .
wdymmm this performance is the cleanest she's performed, and that takes 100% of energy. Not every powerful performance is exerted with 100% efforts

She did an amazing job playing Aretha Franklin in the Genius series too!
One of my fave songs of all time!! Rt now Cynthia is the voice of the moment, but I love the legend Miss Dionne!!!
She's a Goddess! With all her many talents in genres, at heart this girl is a soul singer!
Cynthia is a masterclass
She’s the kind of singer that makes my soul feel aligned with the physical world just for a moment
Her version of “When you wish upon a star” is gorgeous as well 😊
Her performance of I’m Here from the Color Purple will break you. I’ve not seen one person that it doesn’t wreck.

Yes!! This one is a masterpiece 👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽
I enjoy her “At last” rendition, it’s incredible…. If you plan to cover another song from Cynthia I would recommend that one
Ooooh I wanna hear that

She makes singing flawlessly look so effortless… it bothers me (because I’m jealous😂)
Another one she sings “Edelweiss” for Julie Andrews 😍🎶please listen 👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼😍
Yes it's simple but divine
