The ultimate drum machine. I dream to have this to replace my TR-8. I current use my Digitakt for my percussion sequences, and to be honest, the kick sound doesn't compare to my analog Tr-8. Rytm is certainly nice. But if you have Digitakt, then that’s also very very nice. I prefer Digitakt to be honest. Extra filter, and extra lfo per track. Super fast workflow. Regarding kicks: Digitakt is a sampler. So there’s no “the” kick ;) pick a better sample, and use the tools (tuning, filter and lfos etc.) to shape a kick further to your liking. The Digitakt doesn’t make kicks sound bad :)
@@Davemech lol, thank you, It's so good to have a great teacher to just tell it how it is! I'll take your advice and let the RYTM gas out for a while more 🙂

great review, thanks, the Analog RYTM sounds deep and beautiful as always but would you consider that the sampling capabilities are kind of "Digitakt Lite" with even less MIDI features than Digitakt? My uninformed understanding is that it is 12 note polyphony but each of the 12 pads/notes can have a synth engine as well as a sample assigned to each pad? It's an expensive music box, sounds great but seems the best aspect may be the work flow capabilities of relative (compared to a DAW) limited features? Still, DM, you're makin' the RYTM sound very good!
Thanks 🙏 Rytm actually has 8 voices. 12 sound engines but a few are grouped and use the same voice. (Indicated by the lines between pass). Yeah Digitakt offers much more when it comes to sampling and imho also for sound design with its two filters and two lfos. However the sequencer of rytm is a lot deeper and rytm offers more in terms of controlled performance features, a dedicated fx track and some more advanced features. Yeah with any hardware the tactile workflow and direct control is a great part of why it is so wonderful to use. It feels like an instrument
30:30 Couldn't Elektron release some form of upgrade kit to boost the performance with a more performant cpu that you install at home? Or sell some helper chip that fits in a slot rhat takes some of the load of the main cpu? I am sure they could if they wanted.
Don’t think so. These PCB’s inside are not build with that in mind. That would mean a big overhaul of the hardware and software. Personally I rather see them developing something new. Which I’m sure they are in the background.
@@Davemech ok, probably they left out expansion as an option, but it would be the coolest easter egg if they made something like that available in some product. So as far as I understand the scales only apply when live recording but you cannot change the scale for notes already part of a sequence, am I right? If thats the case it is a little bit of a shame to be honest. Would have been nice to have a pattern going and be able to change the scale on the flight. Not sure why they did not implement this, does not appear to be too CPU intensive unlike the second LFO. Regarding the second LFO, a workaround would be to be able to freely assign the 12 LFO’s to ANY track and not only the track they live in. Anyways, cool enough update!
Page Loop could work on the Digi boxes if they implemented it where you could only set a loop when the sequencer was stopped. Really hope that Euclidean, smooth random, P Lock indicators, save trig as sound, come to the Digi's (and OT but not hopeful for that).
