- Sometimes it can feel like we are treading water in our web development journey. Or even worse it can feel like we are going backwards. I have been there myself on numerous occasions. And it is not a fun feeling. I know a lot of you guys are feeling a level of uncertainty over the future of web development and are struggling to progress in your business or careers. It's no secret that the web development job market is tough at the moment and there is bug competition for jobs.
If you are feeling disheartened or struggling for motivation in your current situation then maybe you need to try a new approach. I used to love playing video games. And I'm sure a lot of you guys do too. This love of video games can be translated over to your professional life. Think about it. Why are games so fun and addictive? It's because we get rewarded for our efforts. Now imagine if you applied the same principles to your web development business. The process of acquiring new clients and carrying out the work is the game. And the reward is getting paid for your efforts. The difficulty comes when we don't get rewarded for our efforts. This is when we start to lose motivation.
This is the reason that I recommend web developers start to grow a presence on social media. I chose to go down the TH-cam path personally. The great thing about doing this is that you get pretty much instant feedback for your efforts. You post a video or piece of content, then the next day you can see how it performed. The more you do it, the more you get rewarded in the form of views and subscribers. Eventually this will turn into a tool you can use for your business to acquire new clients!
The side effect of doing this is that it gets the cogs turning in your brain. You will have ideas and be presented with opportunities that you had not even considered before. I am talking from experience here. When I started my journey on TH-cam I didn't know where it would take me, or how it would benefit my web development business. But 2 years down the line I have a clear vision of where I am going with it and how it can help my business grow. There is no reason why you can't do the same.
It's all about consistency. Keep producing, keep improving, keep seeing the numbers go up. Eventually you will find yourself in a position where web development opportunities are presenting themselves to you.
Great advice as always! 👏👏👏

True and real actually. Gamification is good when used correctly.
Absolutely 👍
If my business was like Banjo-Kazooie - I would be stuck on Click Clock Wood
The music is stuck in my head now 🤣
I am just amused.
This is good news 👍
