So I’m about to order their pre wired set for my 17 ultra limited with heated grips, and all the features. Am I going to set my house on fire over this project or am I good?
That would like me telling you black 15 is what you need to put money on. Up to you to spin the wheel. I know quite a few who seem to not have a issue and others who that’s a different story.
The simple solution is buy their pre wired bars in chrome or black. Also there is an option for the throttle sensor to be pre installed so it is 100% plug and play. Pays to do research before buying products. I am glad I do my own work because I would be pissed about spraying chemicals and grease on wires.
I did those bars. The first set I got the wires locked inside and only 1/2 way through. The second set….. I used emery cloth for about 30 minutes on each bar.. before adding wire.. still took about 2 hours.
You are so right! Like you, I spent a whole day pulling wires through these bars for my 21 Street Glide. I ended up cutting every connector, added a foot of my own wire, soldering wires together, and pulling each wire through individually. I was dealing with heated grips too. Once wires were finally through, I reconnected the connectors. I used lube on the wires but it was bitter/sweet. Yes it moved them easier but made a freakin mess. I agree pre wired is the ONLY way to go.
I tried to use the 100% plug and play and they shipped the one with out the two pin connector on the throttle by wire side. The wire extensions for the clutch side are a joke to pull thru.
I need to update as i found a cap on the throttle by wire side for the heated grip. Only complaint is that the left side wires are impossible to get thru the bars. I will now take the bike to the dealer and have them install a new set of heated grips and pay them to pull the left side wires. Fit and finish on the bars is excellent .
Im about to buy the 10 inch dominator meathooks pre wired for my 08 Ultra anniversary but anyways curious if i will need to change clutch cable and brake lines( mines with abs and tbw) Im hoping not and i can just relocate clutch cable from fairing to work but curious if u know what all i need to make install smooth
I bought the 12 inch meat hook handle bars from dominator industries for my 2020 Road Glide special . I have not installed them yet. From what your review says would it be the same issues for my year motorcycle ?
Looking for advice on these Dominator meat hooks junk bars. I have a 2008 ultra classic am I jerk just to run my tbw and my heated grip. I bought PRE Wired and Their junk throttle by wire failed this wonderful company won’t help me out am I jerk to run the wires outside?
You certainly can run the wires on the outside but you will need to run the throttle wires and heated grips inside for sure. The other wires can probably just be run on the outside with heat shrink and zip tied to the bar. Not the best look but yes can be done
I have been looking at changing out my bars on my bagger and debating whether to pay the extra for prewired bars. You just answered that question lLOL. Thank you for taking the time to let us know the problems with installing the wires.
Great Video, I had some codes on my 2010 FLHR and swapped out throttle by wire. When I pulled the wire after connecting I noticed cut in outside tape on lower harness. I should of bought an 07.
Great question and honestly I am not sure the answer because I do all of my own wiring so hopefully someone will chime in. That said I really like road6customs for bars. I do believe they have some models available prewired
This company that he just reviewed makes their bars in a prewired option as well. To me it’s worth the extra money so you don’t have to fight it. Only wire you have to pull is the throttle by wire and they have a braided metal cable in for that. Hope this helps.
I put ( dealer installed) 12" on my 2018 FLTRU. Bought the pre-wired plug and play, the additional cost of the bars I saved at my dealer ....I don't have the patience for do this task myself...money well spent
He’s not lying! I ordered some for my 2020 Road Glide. Wasted an entire Saturday trying to get the throttle wires through. I even used wire glide lube and extremely thin steel cable! The cord I used at first was on par with electrical string tie! It snapped trying to feed the wires through. Even after getting the smaller bundles through, I noticed the shielding had almost been cut through. Needless to say, I put my stock bars back on. The Dominators are going back! Should have not been a penny pincher and splurged for some real bars! I may or may not swap the bars down the road.
Great review , probably the reason these come pre-wired now, even the heated grip models up 2022. I admire the tenacity it takes to finish a frustrating task that makes you want to just put a gas soak rag in the full fuel tank, light it up and leave the garage....lol
Put on 2 sets of the same bars your talking about and the first set took a little longer because I did the same thing you did with all the wires and learn from my mistakes on the second set I installed I didn’t put the extension on and that made it a lot easier install extension after the wire was pull through the bars I used small nylon cord to pull with lube everything up with Vaseline and pull with no problems the bike were 2008 & 2002 ultra classic
@@YogisCycleService so my bars came in and everything looks great but i ran into a snag on the throttle sensor. the harness is different. all the videos i could find show the harness that came with the new bars but mine is bigger like the 2 accessory plugs on the speedo housing.

They looked great, the bars were indeed "pre-wired" so off I go to the install. 8 G'damned hours later, I put everything back down on the workbench, and called it a day. I didn't accomplish one single step in the install that entire day! In fact, at one point I was convinced my mother must've drank when she was pregnant with me because the install should've been "plug 'n play" but for whatever reason, my brain wasn't computing and nothing was going to plan, and I mean NOTHING was going right! Oh, at the beginning when I counted the wires and connections, low and behold, one of the wires was missing entirely. As I tried to pull the Throttle By Wire (TBW) through, we kept getting hooked up on something blocking the TBW. Another hour later we finally removed what was a clump of shrink wrap someone had previously attempted to pull through these bars. Obviously someone got fed up and returned the bars back to Dominator. Dominator simply figured nothing was wrong and sent them to me, shrink wrap plug and all. Long story short, what a pain in the arse and never again will I ever EVER install these for a customer again UNLESS they buy the extra wiring harness in addition to whatever is already pre-wired. We did get them installed properly after 1.5 days but therapy is going to be expensive!!!
