He just explained it so much better than my truck driving school instructor. When downshifting we were taught to monitor our speed and downshift at certain speeds for each gear then rev to increase RPM to get it into gear. Just confused the hell out of me to watch speed, RPM, the road and gear I'm in along with reading traffic signs and looking down every side road.
@@dreadsguns as a 36 years veteran trucker, I love the super ranger 15 speed, mostly used 13 speeds, 8 ll is different from the others trannys, great video.. thank you.
In a 10 speed tranny you can tell which gear you should be in based on the speedometer. Can I use the speedometer to tell which gear i should be in when shifting an 8? The same way as a 10?
I was thinking the same that’s how I learned driving a 10 speed so when I got in the 8 speed it was different for some reason .. this was a great question
@@dreadsguns that’s not what he asking my boy .. he saying , when you in a 10 speed we all know 35mph = 8th gear . but is it the same thing in a 8 speed transmission? For example: if I was in a 8 speed and I wanted to downshift to 7th gear , does 25mph = 7th gear as well as a 10 speed ?
From 4th to 5th, you said you can flip your range selector up while still in 4th, however; from 5th to 4th you have to pop into neutral BEFORE flipping down your range selector?
@@dreadsguns thanks for the response man! We’re doing it already now haha. I was just starting out at a place with standard trucks so.. just wanted to make sure I knew everything I could. Found out you can’t go from 5th split, pull back the splitter and push down the plunger to go to 4th lol. That didn’t sound very nice.
When rolling up to a red light what would be a safe gear to go to? Like if I’m coming up to a red light in 7th gear and all the sudden traffic starts moving what gear would I go to to not stall. In a 10 speed I always go to 6th gear
Id say go down about two gears and see if it picks up pretty good. Another good thing to do is if you predict the lights about to turn green start slowing down a long ways back then you can stay in the gear you in when it do turn green. Hopefully that helps
Lo lo is necessary when the load is heavy or your trying to get the truck out of a stuck situation like in mud. That's the only time I've used it. Other then that I just shift 1-8. The process is the same as normally shifting but instead you'll have it in lo lo.
I'd use lo lo if your load is heavy, it'll take unnecessary pressure off the transmission and engine. First gear can handle a lot of weight too. If your struggling taken off in first gear just use lo lo.
By looking at the RPM's is how I time my shifts. Each gear will only let you go up to so many RPMs before its reving the engine. At that point in my mind if I let off the gas, take the clutch out of gear to either upshift or downshift it'll do so smoothly. After awhile you'll be able to hear it in the engine and know when to shift, instead of taking each gear into high RPMs before shifting if that makes any sense?
Thank you so much I appreciate it ….. my company got a 8 speed Mack truck and I was always interested in driving it when my automatic truck be down for maintenance…. You definitely got another subscriber
First video I have watched that makes 100% sense. Bro you're good you every beginner needs to watch this it's helpful. 🎉🎉🎉
Thank you, here if you need any help thank you for watching
Thanks for the video man I always get nervous driving a stick shift but excited at the same time. This really help my mindset I will keep practicing
No problem, no need to get nervous just shift on lol.

Very nice explanation
Thank you! Very informative video
2000* not 20000 but this is a great video not many out there fully explaining it and showing it plus extra info 😊

if i’m in a truck that requires me to shift up at 15000 RPM on a 8 speed transmission when i go down would i have to drop to 10000 RPM ? curious
I do like 12 rp it hit
Excellent video man
Thank you sir!

Do you clutch when downshifting
You can but it's easier to tap the gas right before you shift in and out of a gear
You're into truck's and gun's. I like you better already.
The first 4 gears are granny gears but when you hit 5th , 6th and 7th gear around what speed should you be at for each ?

I wonder why we never see 15 speeds on dump trucks. I seems it would be ideal.
I want to see backing up a steep hill in the middle of a hill
That sounds scary lol it's all in the clutch and gas ratio. Gotta give her more gas before releasing the clutch

15 and 10 in my lo low not 20 and 15
