- Famous for its role as the training dam for the bouncing bomb trials by the 617 Squadron of the Royal air force in WW2.
Based at RAF Scampton the squadren flew here to home their skills here on a plan envisaged by British engineer Barnes Wallis, before going on to bomb Germany's Ruhr Valley Dams in Operation Chastise.
