So the guy who hit 43 g’s survived because the blood rushed out of him fast enough to not elongate the process of the G pulling force. If it were over the course of a longer time, even at less g’s then it would be the opposite effect. I watched this video of this engineering who hypothetically invented the euthanasia roller coaster. Basically you went on a roller coaster and after it’s super fast miles long, 8 loops. Continually pulling Like 8-10 G’s your dead. But most people would survive the first loop. It was only after the body gets hit constantly does it give up and die. Still though 43G’s!! 😱 what were they thinking! Idiots. It needs to slow down at a rate the pulls less than 7 G’s for a few seconds and then goes back to a constant and then again and again until he’s slowed all the way down. Although I wonder if let’s say you had a really long car, like where the driver sat, hypothetically let’s say was 50yards long in the cockpit. If you slowed the car down in the 2 seconds could you also have a mechanism that shot the driver from the back of the cockpit to the front at an equal force so they experienced no G force? And they canceled each other out?
Because there are 2 glasses sticked together with that plastic material, it's really hard to get badly hurt by shards, they will stay all in their place, maybe just some minor shards will fall from the collision point but it's not big deal
Random fact: Col. Stapp survived but he decelerated so fast his corneas detached under his eyelids. He later regained his eyesight but that gives you an idea of the extreme forces he endured. Edit: Source was Modern Marvels years ago

I just want to say, DO NOT let autopilot completely drive for you. Keep your hands on the wheel, and pay attention. This system is still in beta, and it has its flaws. It isn't perfect.
That's how you're supposed to use autopilot anyway....it'll start screaming if you don't have a hand on your wheel. You've to still pay attention to the road, it just takes off some of the stress for you

SI units of force is a Newton (N) which is the SI counterpart to lbs. Kilograms (kg) are regarding weight, or gravity’s influence on an object. Kilograms are not a force and are not measured by a load cell. Likewise, the imperial counterpart of kilograms are called Slugs. Imperial system measures your body mass as the amount of force you exert due to gravity, whereas metric/si measure your body mass as the weight of itself. Fun fact for ya.
He vulgarised what load cells and accelerometers measure quite well but when he said that the force was measured in LBS or Kgs it kinda hurt my math/physics heart lol. A force is measured in Newtons and is an acceleration times a mass :3 (1 N = 1 Kg*m/s^2 )
About the fire hazard: yes, they burn rarer, but when they burn they are a pain in the ass to put out. You have to cool the battery/car for 24 hours. My local fire department now has a waterproof container where they submerge the car for a day. Just as a bonus fun fact to consider

Dear donuts: Not convinced about tempered glass argument, when you temper glass you're literally storing energy in it - like a prince rupert's drop. PRDs (and tempered glass) don't spread out the area of energy dissipation for your little crack, they just release their stored energy at the speed of sound and are suddenly inconsequential for energy dissipation. I just looked it up, the ncap has a star rating, 1-5 Tesla has 5 stars in all areas, if you were to score better than it you would need to have 6 stars, but they don’t have 6 stars
additionally after you are at like 5 stars ratings.... it doesn't really matter. The car is safe for all normally survivable situations. At that point all cars are good enough to take any smaller accident and if it is large enough accident.... It doesn't matter how strong the car is, if you aren't wearing a HANS device. At that point passengers neck fails before the car fails and well no amount of strengthening the cabin protection protects passengers neck. For that one would have to have a HANS and well those are rather inconvenient for everyday use. Racing cars and crazy strong safety cages for long time to take even crazier levels of punishment compared to Tesla. Driver still kept ending up dead from snapped necks. Car can never make passenger perfectly safe, since just the de acceleration will kill the human without any direct traumatic impacts. Not unless one goes to extra length such as HANS and other safety equipment directly on the human. Similarly active safety etc. can never completely protect the car, since well sometimes someone just is on collision course with no fault of the driver or car being collisioned on and happens at such surprise there is no way to avoid it. Still as said any highly rated car is SAFE, well as safe as one can make car under normal circumstances. Which is what NCAP is actually about. Not about making THE safest single car, but making cars in general safe to a good standard. Since it doesn't help much if a single car model is safe. That leaves rest still out. What really makes the change is mass market utility level cars like Toyota Corollas and VW Golfs being safe to good standard instead any single car being 1% more safer at the top, than the next best. What really helps is people overall avoiding the one stars and two stars, instead of same one getting 5+ stars.
I would like to take this opportunity to apologise for my very dumb country. It's like, "Wait someone came up with a way to measure stuff in tens and hundreds so that you can do almost any calculation in your head? Nah, lets keep counting things is 12's and 3's and lets use fractions if there is anything smaller than our smallest unit of measurement. I am sure that this will not be confusing at all. And we will definitely not loose any spacecraft because 2 different teams that built the spacecraft, will use the imperial and metric systems and then not notice untill that spacecraft is headed towards mars and... I just want to say, DO NOT let autopilot completely drive for you. Keep your hands on the wheel, and pay attention. This system is still in beta, and it has its flaws. It isn't perfect.
It isn't perfect, but still better than most human drivers...
That's how you're supposed to use autopilot anyway....it'll start screaming if you don't have a hand on your wheel. You've to still pay attention to the road, it just takes off some of the stress for you

SI units of force is a Newton (N) which is the SI counterpart to lbs. Kilograms (kg) are regarding weight, or gravity’s influence on an object. Kilograms are not a force and are not measured by a load cell. Likewise, the imperial counterpart of kilograms are called Slugs.
Imperial system measures your body mass as the amount of force you exert due to gravity, whereas metric/si measure your body mass as the weight of itself. Fun fact for ya.

He vulgarised what load cells and accelerometers measure quite well but when he said that the force was measured in LBS or Kgs it kinda hurt my math/physics heart lol. A force is measured in Newtons and is an acceleration times a mass :3 (1 N = 1 Kg*m/s^2 )

About the fire hazard: yes, they burn rarer, but when they burn they are a pain in the ass to put out. You have to cool the battery/car for 24 hours. My local fire department now has a waterproof container where they submerge the car for a day. Just as a bonus fun fact to consider

PRDs (and tempered glass) don't spread out the area of energy dissipation for your little crack, they just release their stored energy at the speed of sound and are suddenly inconsequential for energy dissipation. Are the laminations helping out after this point? Well firstly they're not metal, and secondly their main design purposes are bonding together multiple layers of glass - which we just destroyed - and to reduce glass injuries, so no. I just looked it up, the ncap has a star rating, 1-5 Tesla has 5 stars in all areas, if you were to score better than it you would need to have 6 stars, but they don’t have 6 stars
additionally after you are at like 5 stars ratings.... it doesn't really matter. The car is safe for all normally survivable situations.
At that point all cars are good enough to take any smaller accident and if it is large enough accident.... It doesn't matter how strong the car is, if you aren't wearing a HANS device. At that point passengers neck fails before the car fails and well no amount of strengthening the cabin protection protects passengers neck. For that one would have to have a HANS and well those are rather inconvenient for everyday use.
Racing cars and crazy strong safety cages for long time to take even crazier levels of punishment compared to Tesla. Driver still kept ending up dead from snapped necks.
Car can never make passenger perfectly safe, since just the de acceleration will kill the human without any direct traumatic impacts. Not unless one goes to extra length such as HANS and other safety equipment directly on the human.
Similarly active safety etc. can never completely protect the car, since well sometimes someone just is on collision course with no fault of the driver or car being collisioned on and happens at such surprise there is no way to avoid it.
Still as said any highly rated car is SAFE, well as safe as one can make car under normal circumstances. Which is what NCAP is actually about. Not about making THE safest single car, but making cars in general safe to a good standard. Since it doesn't help much if a single car model is safe. That leaves rest still out. What really makes the change is mass market utility level cars like Toyota Corollas and VW Golfs being safe to good standard instead any single car being 1% more safer at the top, than the next best.
What really helps is people overall avoiding the one stars and two stars, instead of same one getting 5+ stars.

It's like, "Wait someone came up with a way to measure stuff in tens and hundreds so that you can do almost any calculation in your head? Nah, lets keep counting things is 12's and 3's and lets use fractions if there is anything smaller than our smallest unit of measurement. I am sure that this will not be confusing at all. And we will definitely not loose any spacecraft because 2 different teams that built the spacecraft, will use the imperial and metric systems and then not notice untill that spacecraft is headed towards mars and... Hey wait, where is it going?" And that is just how we measure things! Can you imagine how those same people would run a justice system? Or a police force? Or a government?
