- Firefighting squads in Edmonton are mainly comprised of white men, and very few others. With the launch of new outreach programs this year, has diversity improved?

If my house is burning down & I am trapped inside I don’t say to those trying to help “Hey, you aren’t racially diverse enough”.

I hope the won't struggling with qualifications. I don't care about diversity among firefighters I just want them to do their job.

It's nice to reach out to others to look into a career, But "Any person" should get hired based on them being more proficient in doing their job better than others, rather than shooting to hire status que targets based on the color of their skin, gender, ethnicity, religion, or personal sexuality type, etc. Especially when it involves saving lives.
The story seems to suggest they’re simply not getting candidates who are not white men, as opposed to what you’re suggesting, that the best people just happen to be the white men. Perhaps it’s simply a reflection of the demographics of the community and nothing more. It’s a big miss that the journalist didn’t bother to say anything about WHY things are the way they are. For all we know, many of these young men were drawn to firefighting because a family member was a firefighter, it could be a family tradition, we have no idea.

I expect there are probably a few females who could pass the physical requirements, but it would be a vanishingly small proportion of all women, biology being what it is.
Of course, plenty of men can't pass the physical requirements either.

asian: they make more money by doing investment and banking
black: they are too lazy to work at all. (at least most of them)
Indians: they make more money from uber, delivery and home building and engineering
women: either they expect men to give them money or they would rather to work in fashion, cosmetic industries etc.
filipinos guys: they are too lazy, they rely on the women to work. and they are short in average...
