Chris Brocato i don’t know, the Spartan Metrostar is a hell of a truck, know nothing about smeal, but we have a Gladiator Aerial, and a Metrostar Pumper, brilliant, reliable, and gorgeous. They’re not Pierces, but you’re paying for the name.
Fire fighters are awesome. I don't know why there are so many people bashing them. If their house was on fire, and they were trapped inside, I bet that they would change their tune.
Love the guy at 4:25. "Used to be a paramedic". Come on dude, be honest with why you left EMS for fire. Because you got tired of the backbreaking pace of EMS, where you never stop, constantly miss meals, and get no recognition. Found a profession with a quarter of the work and 50x the recognition. Smart man.
I don't know if you know but firefighters basically have the same amount of training as EMT'S, still have a lot of medical calls, on top of rescue and fire suppression. I don't think there's much of a difference in relaxation.
Maybe the best media ride along I have ever seen. The news crew didn't ask 'stupid' questions and the crew on duty seemed to be real (as in not just being on camera). Good job too everyone!
Well said. You've gotta love all the people on TH-cam that seem to think they know better than the real professionals. You guys do a great job and I tip my hat to you all, cheers from Canada :)
TFS' reduction in medical call had nothing to do with Sales. it was a decision made by the tiered response committee, in which 5 emergency physicians are members of. The decisions were made based on evidence based research (which nobody has ever provided any counter evidence towards). TFS was removed from calls in which they do not have the skillset to make a positive impact on patient outcome. It's not a bash on firefighters, just an understanding of the limitations of the service they provide
I Feel like being a Toronto Firefighter Now I like those firefighters and that Pumper 245 P245 Looks nice and i like the firemen there so im gonna become a firefighter there.
What is wrong with some SUV's that stay mobile the way EMS' ERU's do. Put a Captain and First Class firefighter on them. They can do medical calls, and provide first response to alarms and fires. 2 firefighters can establish incident command and determine what resources need to be sent, or can cancel false alarms. It's not that TFS can't do this, it's that they don't want to do it.
ffryan not to mention they can’t blast through an intersection. What happened to when seconds count? If someone was trapped in a burning building I’d be laying down the Q and holding the horn!
IZRI Well from a current volunteer in NY, the application process was about 4 months, then my Firefighter 1 course was about 6 months. I'd be happy to answer any other questions you might have 👍
How the fire service works is for a structure fire there's a set number of apparatus they send to the call based on location as explained by the Pumpers Lieutenant at 7:17 Basically what it does is prevents as much fire damage as possible saving the private company money. It sounds stupid but works efficiently.
Iowa is a little bit of a drive for my mid town of missouri but thank you so much for offering. If I need to ask a few questions maybe we could video chat?
For a confirmed structure fire called in by a citizen I can 100% support a full response by several apparatus. I'm referring to the electronic fire alarms that are 99.9% false alarms and comprise a significant portion of the department's response. In a perfect world I would love to support responding additional units to save a few insurance dollars but when every other city department in Toronto is having their budget slashed it seems like a huge waste. Just my opinion...
Well #1 TFS only sends one truck to medical's mainly because we arrive on scene before TEMS does 9 time out of 10,and they do give the patient medical treatment until TEMS arrives. The only time you will see more than 1 truck on a medical is for a medical assists and the most they send is 2.If you would like to go ahead and explain to Chief Sales why we shouldn't get new trucks, but instead,SUV's that replace what our trucks do just fine,go right ahead, but I think we need the trucks more ;)
Ok, I am a sr. in highschool doing a project over what it takes to be a fire fighter, I need interviews with firefighters, chiefs, captians, and more, but I am looking for suggestions on the best way to ask to do those interviews. Any ideas to help, should I call, email, or just go to the station and ask?
No,taking necessary precautions. They don't know it's a false alarm until the crews go in,reset, look around and overhaul a bit.I don't know about you but I would rather have 5 trucks respond to my house for a false alarm then have 2 and there be a real fire and it takes the extra 3-6 min for apparatus to arive on scene
I live in Tucson and watched the el tour de Tucson and I'm only 14 and helped emts help a old guy and they brought a 100ft lader to the scene! This is no fire! He just fell off his bike!
Once we had a call to our mall and our driver got annoyed with drivers not moving over and everyone was stopped so he straddled the yellow line and blew through the center.
if you want to look at life and evryday social setting in a cynical/bitter way, everything is useless until you need it. I am a Paramedic and although our numbers are not as large as the FD I always appreciate their help and expertise on calls. I would rather have resources and not need them opposed to needing them and not having them. Thanks for your help bothers and sisters :0)
Other peripheral fire services in the Toronto area (Mississauga, Brampton, Vaughan, Markham) have all been critical of TFS' over responding. If other firefighters, who do what you do, are calling it excessive, do you think it just might be a bit? Why is it that it takes TFS double the resources to battle the same type of house fire that another GTA service needs? Their firefighter injuries and deaths are no higher that Toronto's. Does Brampton still carry the SCBA that is twice the size?
@ffryan. So no matter what the story or who it's about it comes back to recognition to you personally. And that fire gets to much. The red headed step child is crying again and I don't have a bottle. You work harder than us ( your words) but not one if you guys could do our job and enter a burning building. I really don't but hey ffryan ill make sure the media is there!!!!
in Canada firefighters for the most part work 7 days a month and make around 90k a year bit the shifts are 24 hours and to me the pay seems a little steep
it's steep for the amount of hours spent working, but in case they have to be saving people from burning buildings and risking their lives, the salary is shit... Granted, most of the days and most of the calls are non-life threatening to them, but those that are...
I'm an American and I'm currently attending college to become a certified firefighter but I want to move to Canada. I know Canada is strict on immigration but I can assure you that I'm willing to contribute and work hard as a legal immigrant becoming a Canadian citizen. My question to any Canadian is how can I be a citizen in your beautiful country? I want to help people by being a firefighter at Canada. And will me being a firefighter be enough to live a comfortable life at Canada? I also want to be a physical trainer on the side as a hobby.
As for the "if it saves 1 life it's worth it" argument that Toronto Fire always seems to use....we would save 1000's more lives by re-allocating those funds into our broken hospitals, EMS, and public health.
@BillyShears, 3 fire trucks to a medical call? Being a little dramatic aren't we? Oh wait it's just another insecure paramedic commenting on a fire clip on TH-cam.
You can tell he really wanted the guy to know that he knew something about the fire service when he said "that's quite the apparatus".
I don’t think so. The firefighter referred to it as an “apparatus” first. He just repeated what he said.
@@jaysmith1408 I like Spartan's look much better than some Pierce trucks

Actually statistically TFS arrives before EMS, on tiered response calls, only about 40-50% of the time.
Yep als then bls
We need a remake of this video

I need to hit up this fire hall for dinner, that sounded so good lol

Yes sir that is correct. 4 man pumper and rescue crews, and 95% of the time 3 man aerial and heavy rescue (squad) crews.

Is this a government job or private over there?
