I may be premature in this assessment, but it seems that for now, the Cubs improved by NOT trading Contreras and Happ. They could improve even more if they re-sign these two and make some major free agent signing or trades.
Not premature at all, right in par with this team right now as you said, I would agree they only get better because they got to stay Cubs for the foreseeable future and that trade burden was lifted.
Happy is not a fee agent , he has one more year remaining , yes you resign Contreras and Ian happ has finally become the consistent hitter he was drafted to be , in another 2 years the cubs will be loaded with talented pitchers and position players as they are loaded in the minors right now , they are just missing a superstar type player , maybe they can make a push for ohtani , they have the players to trade for him and the angels are lacking talent , only player off the table in the minors is Pete crow as he can be our Derek Jeter , the kid has it all
Happ has another year on his contract, but I would advise the Cubs to negotiate a new contract now. As for Contreras, "if" he resigns? That is a pretty big if. Should Contreras sign elsewhere, the Cubs are screwed. All they get in return is a low level draft pick in return. Then I can imagine the outrage against the Cubs' front office from all those fans who denounced the Cub management for considering a trade in the first place.
Best part of it all is we have really hurt their chances at making the Show. I have heard FTC and how great they are so much, seeing us beat them again and again is delicious! FTB!
Does anyone else wonder why they lifted a guy pitching a no no? Was his pitch count that high? Was he injured? It’s lame that this happens in today’s game. I’d be pissed if I was Peralta. .
He has been coming back slowly from injury, but it's strange because he threw over 90 pitches the last previous starts. The other thing I read was they are saving him for the playoff push (really!) 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
