I have to shorten a pair of unlined grommet drapes for a sliding door. I have to do it by hand because I have no machine and don't know how to use one either! I've sewn some buttons (not bad for a bachelor) but that's about it! This video shows you very clear and precise. The best one I've seen! I'll give it a try!

bewiseasowls Well, I gave it a try! It took me 1 1/2 hours to do about 84 inches and the job came out near professional per the instructions on this video! HomeDecGal is a great teacher! I recommend this video as the best of it's kind! So give it a try! With the right instruction you just may surprise yourself!

Thank you, but it would have been really, really helpful to see the effect of the different stitches on the face of the fabric

Great. Video, Susan. I use my thumb nail to measure my stitches. That keeps my stitches uniform and my thumb is there anyway.

Hi. I found a lot of great tips in your tutorial. I was wondering how durable hand sewing a hem on a curtain would be. Your fabric is very pretty. Many thanks for this. I have suscribed xxx

Hello Annie, hand sewing is very durable. I have never had a bottom or side hem fall out in 30 years of making draperies with hand sewn hems. The key is to use good thread that can live at the window. In fact, I have had draperies years later in a clients home where the fabric was falling apart from sun exposure, but the hand sewing was still holding those shreds to the lining. :) Thanks for viewing and for subscribing!
