    Perfect job! I've done curtains before but many years ago & never with grommets. I am using the exact same fabric as you used in the video! I bought it a year ago & am finally "almost" ready to get started. I have a very large cutting table to work on as soon as I clean it off to find the top again! Then I'll be ready to start. It was perfect for when I made long cushion covers for my friends outdoor furniture seats & backs. Can't wait to get going!!! Thanks for all the great tips!

    Thank you for a brilliant video!! I was going to make pencil pleat curtains as usual, but I am going to use this method instead as you have explained it so well. Many thanks :)

    A most excellent and thorough demo. I needed the grommet info too. A few slips... 36 + 8 = 44, not 42. Selvage is on the width, not length of fabric. Thank you for not rushing, and showing every step clearly, and explaining little things like selvage stitch distortion, which I did not know. I am making RV curtains, and though it sounds simple, its quite technical to make curtains well. I've never used grommets either, and thought I would need a machine. Many thanks!!

    Thank you for this brilliant (the most helpful) video. I have made a few adaptations because of the type and amount of fabric I had, but this gave me the confidence I was doing the right thing. Now just about to cut the holes for the eyelets (what we call them in the UK)- wish me luck!

    I only have one question: what do we do with the hem? The gap between the lining and the main fabric should remain unsewed? Like a big pocket?

  • @haunthunterify

    So the lining is hemmed but open at the bottom?

    Instead of taping a ruler down, you can layer several pieces of painter's tape to make a guide.

    Drapery fabric is wider then the lining fabric? 8:50 Did I miss something? Where did that come from. How much wider should a lining fabric be in proportion of the drapery fabric? Other then that, thanks for making the video

    I dont recall hearing a added eam allowance for the sides. What would you recommend?

    • @NationalSewingCircle
      @NationalSewingCircle  7 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Hi, when it comes to curtains, and in general all other home decor projects I sew, I like to use a 1/2" seam allowance. Home decor items do not generally go through as much wear and tear as garments, so they don't require the larger 5/8" seam allowance. Also, using 1/2" seam allowances makes the math of adding them into cutting measurements much easier. Hope this helps!

    What is the space you between the grommet and the next one. And the space from the top to the grommet for to put on

    Could you clarify how the hemming was done for bottom lining & curtain. I serged all edges on both; do your fold under serged edge or not then hem? (Machine stitch or hand stitch).

    • @NationalSewingCircle
      @NationalSewingCircle  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Rosie. After you serge the edges you fold them towards the wrong side and stitch by machine. Thanks.

    My lining fabric and my fabric are the same width. Do I need to cut the lining fabric width by a certain amount so that it is a little shorter than the width of the fabric?

    Hi,
    When you were pinning and sewing the fabric, why didn't you fold under the raw edge? Was it just a shortcut?

      It said she serged the edges.

    • @chrislusbytaylor3197
      @chrislusbytaylor3197 5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@berledale9090 No, she only serged the side edges where she had cut off the selvedges. Unnecessary, really, as these seam allowances are going to be totally hidden inside the lining. You can see no sign of serging along the top edge. She definitely left the raw edge visible - this was the only edge that actually needed serging or, better, turning under before sewing. You can see this, too, when she cuts the holes. I think the holes should have been higher, or the top 'hem' deeper. Pretty poor workmanship, if you ask me. Also, she used nothing to stabilise the top. I would insert buckram tape, but the particular lining she used may help. Also, her 1.25 times the window width is far less than I think looks good. I suggest 2 times. Also, it was very confusing to describe what needed to be done next when it had already been done! The attaching of the lining was never shown! Nor was hemming. And the way the curtain kept slithering off the table was very bad practice.

      @@chrislusbytaylor3197 Thank you for these comments. I really needed to see the attachment of the lining & the hemming of the curtain vs. the lining. Difficult to visualize, I kept rewinding and reviewing, it just was not there. (I also did not like where she put the grommets and no stabilizer in the header.) Your comment helped me a lot.

    • @yanabanana5086
      @yanabanana5086 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@MarkHernandez62024 hi! Did you understand how the hemming was finished? Because on the video it was only sewed on the sides and the top. The bottom remained unsewed.

    • @MarkHernandez62024
      @MarkHernandez62024 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@yanabanana5086 Hi Yana Banana. My comment to Chris Lusby Taylor was regarding the editing of the video and how difficult the visual/audio was to follow. But yes, I did understand how your hemming was "finished." It just was very different from the way I sew. I line most everything and finish all my seams and hems (French, felled, ribbon edged hems etc.). Happy sewing.

    Wish you had shown how to cut the fabric evenly and how you mated the insulating layer with the curtain fabric. Wish you shown some sewing.. Ironing I think people pretty much know how. Just a quick instruction about heat setting on the iron and what you did. Wish you’d gotten more detailed.

    HI...About the size of the lining. Both sides are about 1" shorter than decorator fabric? The top and bottom are also 1" shorter than the the same size as the decorator fabric?

    • @NationalSewingCircle
      @NationalSewingCircle  7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hello Melin. Yes, the lining fabric is cut 1" shorter on the bottom so it is not caught in the hem. The top is cut shorter as well as it only needs to be long enough to get caught in the header.Hope this helps!
      Cheers,
      Ashley
