    Still love this paint scheme. I had a 2021 Domane SLR7 with the same color.

      @F Swimmblader 🙄🙄 Got a 2022 with a better paint scheme due to a paint defect.

    That paint job really is on another level in person. I just got my Project One Emonda SLR 7 with the new di2 Ultegra a couple of weeks ago and its so pretty I'm nervous to ride it 😂

      I have a new bike now. The top tube kept scraping against my legs but the 11-36 rear cassette really helped with climbs. Overall the carbon is heavy and with rival it's just too heavy for how much you pay for it. Trek is assessable but not the best brand to choose a professional road bike

    i have the 2016 emonda slr.. the last year of the first generation and the frame and fork were built in USA... for 2017 onwards they shipped production to asia

    I have this same iris emerald colour in a trek marlin 7 and I think there’s no other colour more gorgeous that it. It’s not amethyst, trek called it iris emerald as far as i can remember.

    Another great video James! Thank you 🙏 How is it that you have access to so many bikes and parts? Cheers!

    Loads of small companies all over the world that assemble bikes, some even do custom colours but all the parts are imported. In the EU that can save money as they put a lot of tariffs on complete bikes from China so bikes assembled in the EU can be cheaper but you have some countries that are tariff exempt and have low cost labour so they assemble there instead mainly, like Cambodia and Vietnam and maybe Bangladesh. Don't get me wrong though its good to have local assembly but here in the UK many brands don't even mention it. We have a company called Planet X that sell a huge number of bikes that are assembled in the UK but I don't think they even mention UK assembly as a selling point its more about delivering fantastic value. They do bikes that would match Trek bikes and even exceed them in many ways often for half the price but thats because they are a direct seller. I don't know where this Trek CF frame is made but a lot of CF Trek frames have come from Quest Composites in mainland China and I would say they are mid-level to low quality. Many have out of tolerance bottom bracket areas. Hambini has had to sort out quite a few with specially made bottom brackets that correct the manufacturing issues. Some people have had 3 or more bottom brackets in only a few years because the frame puts the bearings under excessive load on one side so the Hambini BB corrects that but you have to send him the frame so he can make a bottom bracket specific for that frame. I've never heard of such issues with Planet X frames but then I think they use open mould frames which are typically better made because they are shared by hundreds of brands all around the world and so are made on a much larger scale, less innovation more evolution so the people making them are more familiar with those frames and any manufacturing issues are normally corrected much earlier rather than CF frames which are unique to one brand and made in much smaller numbers and they change designs frequently. This is what causes many QC issues. So Trek may be more innovative in frame design but I feel quality and value is better elsewhere.

    I think other than the paint job, what floored me about the bike was that ultra low gearing! Is the owner tryna climb up the side of a cliff or sum 😂 great review as always, James, love your content!

    • @kibbee890
      @kibbee890 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I think that the spread of gears is a huge plus. Makes me wonder why they push more and more gears on the cassette but don't add any additional range. My 9 speed Sora has sufficiently close spaced gears with 11-34. If I was going to pay big money for an 11 or 12 speed drive train, I'd want to get some extra gear range.

      Yeah, I believe the owner was using this bike for long distance rides with significant elevation.

    What size frame was this one? I've been going back and forth between a Project One SLR 9 or an SLR 7. Can anyone explain the difference? The frame seems to be exactly the same.

  • @JC-pt2tw

    Can you explain why it's 9/10 and not 10/10?

    • @Jamesthebikeguy
      @Jamesthebikeguy  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      This bike is built with all the parts that are 1 step down from the "best". I was complementing the build with a top teir frame, and the use of Force (Instead of Red) and Zipp 303s (Instead of 303 NSW) The owner of this bike has gotten a more reasonable bike with 90+% of the performance as if they spent 50% more just for the next level up.

    How cheaper woult it be if it were made in China?

  • @kibbee890
    @kibbee890 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    Is the frame made in the US,or just painted there? The "assembled" in the United States is kind of misleading. The groupset is probably made entirely overseas. Sounds like the frame is too. They just ship everything over to the US, paint it, and then assemble it. That being said, I don't think you can make a while bike out of US parts at this point.

      Assembled probably means that they just connected the wheels to the frame.

    The ugliest thing on that bike is that horrible Landry bike shop sticker! If you can't step up your graphics or match color, don't bother putting it on guys!

  • @NoahStephens

    I’d be super mad if I bought a $9,000 bike and the bike shop put their ugly-a** cantaloupe fruit sticker on my down tube.

    • @Jamesthebikeguy
      @Jamesthebikeguy  ปีที่แล้ว

      And if you bought the bike it wouldn't be on there. This is a stock bike, and the amazing thing about stickers is that they are removable! What a concept!
