Great video. Very informative! I lucked out with my magnolias. I just plopped them in the sunniest spot in the yard and honestly thought I'd cook them.... Didn't even compost in😳. But no..... They are thriving with fertilizer as well. I've bought more but will mulch in with compost and cow manure for sure.
When is the best time to prune Fairy magnolia to encourage thicker growth?

Hi, I have a few grandifloras growing from the seeds, only a few months old. When is the best time to cut it to thicken the stem?

How much water do you give the starter tree, I've been told by a expert you never water the leaves, why because they will cause a fungus on the leaves yes no ?

Great video, very informative. I have a young about 7 foot tall Bracken brown Magnolia, and some of the top leaves are crisp and don't have the velvety underside anymore . What should I do.

“Crisping” of the leaves can be a result of a heavy frost overnight, essentially “burning” the leaves, especially if they are at the top of the plant. Leave the foliage on the tree and wait until warmer weather arrives, then prune off the damaged foliage and feed the plant with an all-purpose fertiliser to encourage new growth.
Foliage damage can also be caused by waterlogged soil. Heavy rain, overwatering or simply a clay soil can damage the tree, so check the watering and add compost and mulch to the soil to improve its quality.
New growth on a magnolia does not have the brown underside on its leaves - as the tree grows the older growth will develop this.
It is hard to diagnose plant issues without seeing the foliage, so if you have further questions you are welcome to bring a sample into our store for our staff to look at - thank you for your enquiry!

Came across this great video. Just planted a young Magnolia Soulangeana which arrived without any leave. It's been nearly 10 weeks in the front yard that gets around 6 hours of sun each day but it has only produced 4 leaves that look frail. What can I do? Thanks.

There could be many reasons why your Magnolia is not putting on any leaf growth. We would be happy to help you in-store with your question, we are open 7 days a week 9am to 5pm except Wednesdays when we open 9am to 12pm.
You are also welcome to call our Gardening Advide Hotline for instant advice from our senior horticulturalist. This operates on Mondays and Wednesday from 9-10am - the number is 0403 222 308.

can we propagate or air layered Magnolia

    • @thegreenerygardenhome8828
      @thegreenerygardenhome8828  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

Yes, Magnolias can be propagated from air layers during summer.
Choose pencil-thick green branches and make a cut halfway through the branch. Fill this cut with moist sphagnum moss and wrap the whole area with clear plastic tied at either end.
When roots appear through the plastic remove the plastic and pot the branch, roots down, into a pot of good quality potting mix.

I found a tree it’s about young and 5 feet tall in a pot with overgrown grass, and over grown cactus …
I googled and it comes up as Crepe Myrtle and Then Southern magnolia .. how could I tell for sure .

    • @geckomoriadaimyoofwano7157

You should be able to tell by the flowers. If in full sun crepe myrtle should flower and its flower is much different than magnolia. Also Crepe also has small and thinner leaves, and its deciduous, southern magnolia has larger glossy leaves and its evergreen. Hope this helps
