I gotta say that I've learned so much more about my mpcxl in the last week since discovering your vids than I have learned on my own since getting it roughly 2 years ago. I've used the 2000 since 99 and pretty much mastered it so moving over to the XL was easy. But I had no earthly idea it had all these extra features like time stretching, sample converting and sample slicing. You just opened up a brand new world for me! I TRUELY appreciate it!
I think it sounds awesome with the drop. Beauty of the MPC. Seriously my best beats have been cut the loop up right, set the tempo, rip a beat on the fly. love it
Just finished building my MPC 2500 from spare parts. Your videos are a Master Class Bro. Loving these MPC vids. In my Yoda voice, "Much to learn, I still have" Thanks for sharing You OL Filt! LOL!
Along time ago I made a comment about Time stretch being the same as just adjusting tune in params . Well after a bunch of experimenting with it , I found that you can give the sample alot more character by messing with the numbers . I've been getting a weird little wiggle effect along with the bpm match and time stretch. I'm liking it
Great video! I'm considering upgrading my dream machine from the sp404 to an mpc2000, but the one thing about the sp404 that was so appealing is that you can bounce a pattern into a sample. Can the mpc2000 record patterns to a new sample? I don't think I've seen anyone do this in all the demonstration videos. A workaround would be to record the audio into a DAW and sample it right back, but it'd be nice to stay inside the machine. Extra bit, the reason I bring this up on this video is because a complicated workaround would be to chop the MJ sample down to it's individual notes and fire the samples off one at a time to get it on the beat. I guess you would lose all the life out of the sample though, haha. Thanks for this massive library of tutorials Jfilt, it has been a long time since I felt really motivated to make beats.
Using both at the same time is always a good option, bro! MPC for fx and stuff like that, cuz normally its easier to chop stuff and build up a full beat in the MPC. I also love to make full beats on the SP tho.
Good stuff my brutha, I don't use a mpc2000xl but I like this vid, I already know multiple time stretching methods, and I use the MPC sequencer to figure out my original tempo for my samples, I'm just wondering how do you figure out your original sample tempo, I might have missed that part in the vid, but in just wondering if you use the method that I use when time stretching which is using the sequencer to figure out the tempo? I love time stretching and I do it on every beat I produce, thanks
Would you have personally used the timestretching function of the mpc2000xl to stretch such a sample to that bpm? It sounds as "mechanical" as you said, and oftentimes filtering just isn't enough to make it alright. IOW, do you actually use the function for real, EVER ?
thanks for the request but i NEVER sample on the 500 LOL, there are some vids on YT but plz let me know if none of those work for you and i'll see what i can do
I actually found that record in a goodwill in some little border town for 5bucks! I think its worth about 900 bucks. Hahah they had no idea what they had
Can you do a video on you transfer your finished songs to the computer with a high quality? I record my songs thru cubase, but the song's volume always seem to come out very low no matter how much i turn it up (that is without affecting the peak levels on my interface). If not, its cool, i love your videos regardless, keeeep hiphoppppin form the hearrttt mannnggggg

Whats up brotha.. Thank you for your vids.. Was wondering your opinion on Quantizing the actual sample.. Personally sometimes I do quantize my samples on 1/16 then you get that choppiness and end up needing to time stretch etc but was just wondering if when YOU laid your samples if you quantized then or just played them straight up.. Also Velocity?
Im not really into quantizing in general especially samples with drums in it already because i like making my own rhythms and it could clash. However every beat is different and it really depends on how u feel at the end of the day..Velocity if used a certain way just allows more of a human feel.
Hi, i am using the maschine trying to take your knowledge and transfer as much as i can, is it possible, lets say i sampled an oregon, got one note out of it can i change the key it is in for every pad, 16 velocity but the maschine version, without changing the speed?
Not to my knowledge, but you could try using your DAW and copy that one note several times and then transpose each note to different keys with pitch shift
I HAVE A QUESTION, WHEN ONE HEARS A SAMPLE THEY LIKE THE LOOP IT ETC. HOW DOES ONE DETERMINE WHAT BPM THAT SAMPLE SHOULD BE OR SOUNDS BEST? I KNOW IT DEPENDS ON THE TYPE OF TRACK AND THE PERSON CREATING THE BEAT AROUND THAT LOOP OR CHOPPED LOOPS. NEXT QUESTION ONCE LETS SAY YOU HAVE A SAMPLE AND ITS BPM IS 75, ONE WANTS TO MAKE IT A LIL FASTER AND HAVE IT FIT A 85-90 BPM. SO DOES ONE PITCHES THE LOOP BEFORE THE CHOP I ASSUME TO THE DESIRED BPM, TEN CHOPS THE LOOP AND THEN PLAYS THE LOOPS USING PADS MPC, MASCHINE ETC TRYING TO STAY ON BEAT. SO WHAT IS THE BEST TECHNIQUE IF ONE IS USING LETS SAY AN MPC 200XL SHOULD I PITCH, TIME STRETCH ETC OR BOTH? I NOTICED WITH THE MPC IF I TIME STRETCH IT PUTS IT AT THE DESIRED BPM BUT WHEN I PITCH IT IT BRINGS IT HIRE THEN THE ACTUAL BPM I WANTED OR LOWER THEN THE BPM I WANTED. SO WHAT IS THE BEST TECHNIQUE? I ALSO HAVE SERATO'S PITCH N TIME PRO WHICH WITH THAT PLUGIN I CAN TIME STRETCH THEN PITCH AND WHEN I DO THAT IT DOESNT EFFECT THE BPM AS THE MPC DO. IS THERE A WAY TO DO THE SAME THAT SERATO PITCH N TIME PRO DOES WITH THE MPC 2000XL?
1. Its determined by trial and error, whatever sounds the best to you 2. I'd say stick with the Serato if you wanna time stretch without effecting pitch 3. Im not a fan of time stretching in MPC unless its just a little bit
4 ปีที่แล้ว
Do you put the samples on different tracks of the sequence?
Isn't that function just changing the speed to fit the tempo u select? I've played with the time stretch and concluded it's just adjusting the pitch to fit and u can just as easily adjust tune in parameters and have ur filter right there.
Hah! Just after I was making fun of time stretch I did it on a track I'm working on and just adjusting pitch wasn't doing it. The time stretch actually did add advertised and adjusted something in the sample to get on beat . And since I sampled it in way above 45rpm it doesn't sound like the sample was slowed down

do you time stretch chopped samples

is this also called beat matching?
some call it that
How du i know the BPM of the original sample?
Troels Grage The answer is from 1:57 - 2:18 The source tempo is the original BPM
I'm working with a MPC Studio, and it tells me that the source tempo is at 120.0 with every sample that i use. What do i do wrong?

yes it depends on the chops and how you use them, but i normally never do this

do you have to put every sound in the same key
