    I stayed there this past Father’s Day weekend. The location was great! It was beautiful! I did not care for the having to walk through the atrium to get back and forth to your room. That made me not want to leave the room or come back. The breakfast buffet was trash! Long lines and not enough selections and was $30/pp. Eat outside of the hotel! The shopping was disappointing…I was looking to buy some Hawaiian wear and all the locals were asking me where I got my clothes LOL. The ABC store was cool and convenient. My room was facing that main drag and that thing was so loud at night. The motorcycles and loud transmissions need a noise ordinance! Not the hotels fault, but sooooo loud! The weed smoke killed us while we were on the balcony also! The elevators sucked! Not enough and we’re so slow. I walked the stairs from the 9th floor. That got old fast especially after a long day! The room was nice and big! The refrigerator and the shower were halfway working. The floor
    at the sink was sticky. The stay was just OKAY. I’d give the stay a 2.5/5.

    I love the Hyatt Waikiki, never stayed there, have at the one on Maui (love). I do spend a lot of time in the lobby area of the Hyatt when in Waikiki, the afternoon entertainment is fun, sitting by the waterfalls is fun, the many shops are fun. But honestly, that room really looked sparse, almost like an afterthought. No real Hawai'ian decorations, art etc. Other than the fabulous view, it looked like any hotel room USA. Maybe it was due to the pandemic, ie so was the broken elevator problems. Less tourists= less staff. I have been prowling the Hyatt in Waikiki since the mid 70s. Just too pricey for me to stay at. I remember Spats restaurant! I have never rented a car for more than one day at a time in Waikiki just due to the parking issues all over that area. If you got that room for $200 a nite, BLESS YOU!! Because I am sure it is at least an $700+ a nite room now.

    Thank you much for this review. I have been debating back and forth whether I wanted to stay at the Hyatt Regency or Hyatt Centric. I was hoping that the Hyatt Regency would be a resort-type experience, but that's not the case. I'm going to be sticking with the Centric for my visit as I think it's the newer property!

    • @YellowProductions
      @YellowProductions  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I look forward to your report on the Hyatt Centric!

    • @karenkylo
      @karenkylo 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      We’ve stayed at both but usually Centric for 1-2 nights using our Chase Hyatt Card free nights and Hyatt Regency Waikiki for the rest of our week long stay. Centric does not have the views or the spacious hotel grounds and is not as central.

    • @kencmail
      @kencmail 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@karenkylo Good to know! I'm essentially doing something similar. Spending 3 nights at Hyatt Centric and the rest of my time at the Alohilani resort next door to Hyatt Regency (due to a travelzoo deal). Was the Centric a decent place to stay? I had my eye on their suites. I know that they don't have much of a view, but they seem comfortable and the location is close to a lot of the places I wanted to visit in that part of my itinerary

    • @karenkylo
      @karenkylo 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@kencmail The Alohilani looks beautiful! I’ve never been but have seen photos and reviews. Definitely would pick that over Hyatt Regency if you want new and modern. The Centric is a fairly basic hotel and prob not worth splashing out for a suite (unless u need the space) as you won’t be thinking of hanging out at the hotel or in your room. The pool area is basic and other than the lobby area, there isn’t any public space or grounds to hang out at. I believe we got “upgraded” to a room with a “view” due to our Hyatt status and that was nice but the view was a partial view of the ocean and another hotel since the Centric sits back behind another hotel.

    Greatly appreciate this video!! We went in Spring 2019 and contemplated between staying at the Hyatt or the Alohilani. Ultimately we decided to stay at the Alohilani. The deciding factor was the size of the bathtub. However, the bathtub drain in the Alohilani made us quite nervous because it drained really slow like it was clogged. Will definitely have to try the Hyatt next time. Especially for the breakfast buffet! By the way, did you have to pay an additional fee for the breakfast buffet or was it included with the room? The Alohilani required guests to pay $50 per day/per person to access their breakfast buffet.

  • @dominicguthrie8402
    @dominicguthrie8402 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Hey Chris, another great review. Given the price of parking in Waikiki, would you say it's better to try and plan your vacation in advance figuring out which days you need a rental car then just pick one up from the hotel on a daily basis? Seems like you avoid maybe 7 nights worth of parking (assuming your there for a week) and maybe a few days worth of car rental. Just use the trolleys for the around town stuff.

    I think Hyatt franchises a lot of its properties, so that's why the differences. If the owners were willing to invest enough money, the hotel could be remodeled to the point of looking like a new first class hotel. That said, I would have no problems staying there. The rooms look good and obviously it's in a central location. I'm not picky, and of course, I'm not going to be living there.

    FYI: As of 2023, self parking is $50 a night even if your a guest at the Hyatt. $70 a night for Valet parking. That sucks.

    Appears to be a great overall hotel. But that lobby, holy moly! Looks like something from the 80s.
