The Little River Band is from Australia. There is a Sparta Tn. It is 15 miles south of Cookeville about halfway between Knoxville and Nashville. Lester Flatt Of Flatt and Scruggs was from Sparta.

Oh , my dad smoked a Dr. Grabow pipe for years ! I loved smelling his cherry ,and apple tobacco smoke when I was a kid ! It smelled so good ! The Grabow was pre smoked by machine to break it in ,so the smoker would not have to . The production came to sparta in 1953...also Ashe and Alleghany counties were known as the " lost provinces" in North Carolina, they have kept their rural charter with farms and not all about tourism like some of the neighboring counties in NC...you are correct Shane, they are tucked away and they are proud of it....thanks guys...appreciate y'all always....God bless...🙏❤

That Christmas village was adorable and loved the wreath, Melody. The holidays are even rougher for me this year. Hubby fell in the driveway on Nov 1st taking trash out. He lost his balance & fell against the car, landing on his right side. He couldn't move & our daughter-in-law heard him yelling "help me"! I was in the back of the house in bed. She ran in, told me what happened, said she'd called for the ambulance & then grabbed a pillow and went back out to him. I was finally able to get to the back porch about the time the ambulance arrived. He couldn't move his arms/hands or his legs. He was taken to Pulaski Hospital instead of taking him to Lewis-Gale Montgomery in Blacksburg as I kept requesting! I was so upset. Our son & daughter-in-law went to Pulaski with him & our son was about to punch the ER dr cause he was jerking his dad's head from side to side & hadn't even taken an x-ray! Their MRI is in a trailer behind the hospital & very small. Hubby didn't fit in it as I knew he wouldn't. I finally got so upset about them doing nothing & called nursing supervisor about wanting him transferred to Lewis-Gale MRH. She went & talked to his "dr" & said I could call & talk to him the next day (Friday). The dr called me & told me he'd talked to the admitting physician at Lewis-Gale MRH & my husband was being transferred that evening. Well, once he got to the better hospital, they immediately did 2 MRI's, brain scan & labs. Put him in a neck brace & had him transferred to Roanoke Memorial by ambulance. He needed to be seen by a neurosurgeon due to a broken neck, compression of his cervical spine & he had no control of his bowels, had to have a catheter, and couldn't move his arms, hands, legs or feet. It was as if the fall had totally paralyzed him. Once he got to Memorial, the surgeon kept him stable & he had surgery thru the front of his neck on the 10th. She had to remove the compressed discs & insert metal discs and spacers to take pressure off his spine, removed a large bone spur from the outside of his spine, then had to repair an area of his spine with glue & stitches on top. He came back from surgery able to move his right hand just ever so slightly. After several days in Memorial, he was transferred to Carilion Community Hospital for intensive inpatient rehab. He can now raise his right arm & move his right hand, stretching his fingers out straight. His left hand is beginning to get to where he can raise his hand up & move his fingers a tiny bit. He has to have help eating, still has to be catherized & still no control of his bowels. They're having to teach him how to walk again. I have cried more this month than ever. He has been my caretaker since I became disabled in 1997. Now that my physical problems have worsened, I've needed him even more. He was getting groceries, fixing our meals, helping me dress, etc. He would have to help me get in bed sometimes & I would have to have him help me turn over. Now, I'm sorta dependent on our grandson (17) & our son, but there's only so much they can do. I've driven my car to visit him before, during & since his surgery but it takes me 2hrs to get there & 2 hrs back which cause me extremely bad pain. I always have my sister or grandson with me cause I get severely anxious just thinking of going alone. I ended up in the ER the Tuesday before his surgery....my blood pressure was way high & heart rate was way over 250 at times. Dr said I was severely dehydrated and because of the stress I basically was having a horrendous panic/anxiety attack. They gave me fluids, a pill to calm my heart & nausea, & an antibiotic thru my iv. Then my blood sugar went over 400 the next night but I kept drinking lots of water to get it down. The days I'm not able to go be with him, we talk on the phone. At first an aide had to hold it for him but now he can hold it with his right hand for a little while. We've both cried, prayed, cried & prayed some more. I did get to spend Thanksgiving with him so that was special. He began to cry when I was leaving & I did too. It's just been a real struggle for us both. We will celebrate 47 yrs married on Dec 12th & they have his goal set to be discharged on 14th, if he's made enough progress. Our son is in the process of purging the house and trying to make it easier for us to get in & around the house. Hubby's gonna need home health care for awhile. I just hope his social worker doesn't try to put us in assisted living. That would break both our hearts. I'm so sorry to be a downer on such a fun, cute video, but I just wanted to let y'all know so y'all could be praying for us both & that God will help us face whatever the future holds. I love y'alls shirts & think y'all did an awesome job on designing them! I really enjoy the just Shane & Melody videos! Y'all have made me laugh out loud! I've been trying to watch all of them, but just hadn't been able to comment, so don't think I ain't still hanging out with y'all! It's just life happens! Y'all please stay safe! Hugs and blessings from the old lady in VA!

When I was a kid in the 60s and lived in Bluefield Va. we used to drive US21 through Sparta on the way to Charlotte NC. to visit relatives. It took 6 hours to make the trip and that was without stopping. Neither the tunnels or even Interstate 77 were completed until the 70s. Now and can be driven in 3 hours, BUT you wouldn't get to see the quaint towns and wayside spots on those old back roads. Thanks again guys for being so sweet and taking those nostalgic tours for us. Shane you're great but that little Melody with the smile is just amazing.

Woke me up on that Sunday morning....I have never felt one before, sure felt that and heard it ..I awoke to my bed shaking, everything in the house was shaking and the noise was like a low rumble ...lasted for about less than a minute ...then my phone started blowing up , everyone felt it ! I never want to feel that again , that's for sure and I am like 50 miles from the epicenter. I know there was damage in sparta. Stores were closed from damage. We have a Sparta here in NJ. It's up in Sussex County, which is up in the NW corner of the state, up in the mountains. I've never seen that movie, "A Christmas Story", though I've seen short clips from it on TH-cam.
There was a movie (which I recommend) called "In the Heat of the Night". The story takes place in Sparta, MS, but it was actually shot in Sparta, IL. Then in the late 80s and early 90s there was a TV series based on that movie, with the same title. It was filmed in Covington, GA. I used to love watching that series. That was a favorite at the time when it was on.
You were just talking about an earthquake in Sparta. Did you guys feel the 2011 earthquake in Virginia? I felt it up here in NJ. The epicenter was in Louisa County, VA, and it measured 5.8 on the Richter Scale.
I definitely enjoyed the video. That's a nice little town. I also always enjoy seeing county courthouses.

Speaking of movies. Y'all should go to the Mitchell River House in Dobson, NC used in the movie The Longest Ride starring Scott Eastwood(son of Clint Eastwood). And also visit the town of Sylva, NC that stood in for the fictional town of Ebbing Missouri in the movie Three Billboards Outside Ebbing Missouri starring Francis McDermott and Woody Harrelson(from TV's Cheers). Also try to find the Georgia filming location for the TV movie Dolly Parton's Coat of Many Colors. I think that it is near Covington Georgia. And speaking of Sparta. In the Heat of the Night was filmed in Covington and Conyers Georgia but set in Sparta Mississippi. I really love y'all's videos!! Keep up the great work.
