One big thing to remember about why Universal Parks are now so immersive is that many of the people who now design them were originally disgruntled Imagineers working for Disney. These were men and women who were super keen on designing vast, themed lands at Disney, but they were constantly shot down or had their ideas greatly reduced. Eventually a whole host of these Imagineers just walked down the street and offered their services to a then aspiring Universal, and Universal was more than happy to not only hire them but let them go to town with theming and a truly immersive experience.
I get the impression that current Disney Imagineering is rather weak in talent. I know many were let go in 2020, but even then, things were on the decline as Iger attempted to "streamline" the division.
same is happening with Universals creative for halloween horror nights- theres a lot moving to seaworld- so its becoming an interesting world for creative expansion
Universal's best move _hands down_ has been their focuses on building more and more affordable resorts - which is literally what made Disney what it is. Meanwhile, Disney has _only_ focused on expensive properties, alienating more middle and working class families.
Disney getting rid of Magical Express still has to be one of their biggest mistakes. The entire point was to help maintain the Disney Bubble, so Disney guests wouldn't use rental cars to drive to places off property. And you know what, Disney guests were actually cool with that! They loved that they would get picked up from the airport and have their luggage taken directly to their rooms for no additional cost. It truly made it feel like you were in an entirely different world...a Disney World, if you will...The current Chapek era mindset seems to be "These things COULD better the guest experience and give us a lot of money, but let's NOT to do those things and guests will still give us money anyway!" Chapek wants guests to pay more for less, because he thinks Disney is too big to fail now.
The magic of Disney was everyone was treated special there. You really felt like a welcomed guest. Now it feels like they only want people with deep enough pockets.
@@peppersaltsman6044 Exactly. A Walt Disney World vacation has pretty much always been pricey, but for the longest time the quality of service and benefits made it feel well worth it. Little by little, the magic of a Walt Disney World vacation has been chipped away thanks to short-sighted corporate greed.
I’ll tell you what: every one of my WDW visits utilized DME, all visits between 2007-2016, 10 in all, averaging 8 nights each. 2016 was my last visit and if not for DVC I may never stay on property again. So now that I’m coming out of pocket for transportation to the resort, i May as well save more money to offset that expense and stay at a nicer hotel for less money elsewhere and rent my points out. Or maybe I’ll just stay at my DVC resort for the 3-4 WDW days and then stay elsewhere for the Universal days. I never left WDW property before, because I had no excuse to since I had no rental car. Also now that I’ve finally tasted Universal with my recent trip, I will definitely be more excited to return for EU and a return trip to USO and maybe hit WDW for a couple of days to do the new stuff, rather than dedicate a full 8-10 day trip solely to WDW like I did before. You get what you ask for, Cheapek.
@@joeygassmann5595 I think Epic Universe will be the kick in the pants that Disney really needs. Enough guests may be putting up with their anti-consumer practices now, but that may no longer be the case when Universal has a shiny new expansion drawing more guests their way in a few years. It's also been said before that a big reason the crowds are the way they are at Disney now is due to pent-up demand from the pandemic. How much longer will that pent-up demand last?
@@TheItachiIshtar totally agree. They’re going to run out of customers desperate for their Disney fix and especially with inflation skyrocketing, along with Disney prices, they are going to find fewer and fewer willing cash cows to milk. The saying “you can shear a sheep many times, but slay it only once” rings true. Enough guests go home feeling dissatisfied with their trip (especially repeat guests who have had a taste of good Disney pre 2019), and a shiny new epic park opening down the street, it’s not rocket science to figure out what will likely happen. It will hopefully be the real wake up call they need. Uni took “only” 4% of the market with Hogsmeade, and have chipped away more and more with each addition after, but EU may be the big turn of events we’ve been predicting.
I’d also like to note, the Disney experience is slipping because you have to micromanage every transaction for the parks through your phone (reservations, genie + etc). As a passholder to both UO and WDW, I go to universal when I don’t feel like going through the hassle of being on my phone with Disney.
I just came back from Islands and despite being crowded today, it was still far more relaxed. While I used my phone to check wait times occasionally, it never feels like a necessity. I make a point not to be on my phone and enjoy the theming, since I'm not actively being forced to use it to enjoy my time there. A bit off-topic, but they also handle capacity far better. I saw plenty of people using express, but the stand-by lines still move consistently and it's refreshing.
as a magic key holder for Disneyland, I can testify that yeah, the app you install on your phone went from being a handy digital paper map/brochure to being a core part of the experience and it's gotten irksome how often I have to pull it out of my pocket.
I’ve been a lifelong Universal fan and always preferred it to Disney even as a child. The resort has grown so much over the past few years and they’re doing such a great job of utilizing new technology while also keeping nostalgia alive. Can’t wait for Epic Universe I’m a Disney fan too, but I’m almost never excited for new offerings from Disney, and it’s just a different feeling being at Disney parks. Being at Universal often feels like they’re saying “we’re so happy you’re here” and Disney often feels like they’re saying “aren’t you lucky you’re here?” It’s hard to explain lol
As a kid born in 1993, I found going to universal and islands of adventure way more fun. I cared about their attractions way more than the ones Disney had while I was growing up
my cousins and I always preferred universal over disney parks growing up. There are only like 1-2 attractions that are worth getting excited for on each disney park where as universals got a bunch
I'm a Disney fan who absolutely adores their parks, and when I went to Universal in 2018, I was really disappointed with what's happened to the offerings at that park. Besides the Gringotts ride, it seems like all the classics have been replaced with low effort simulators with different overlays. It's a shame when the classic dark rides at Universal were up there for me alongside the Disney classics such as Pirates of the Caribbean, Haunted Mansion, Space Mountain, etc etc. It's all gone now, and it's at the detriment to the park, imo. Like, I don't know who okay'ed that Fast and Furious ride, because that has to be one of the worst rides I've ever been on. The Jimmy Fallon ride is abysmal as well. And who gives a fuck about the Minions, but they're in the process of building a *second* ride at Universal?? So I just came back from an Orlando trip, and because of being disappointed with Universal back in 2018, we weren't going to bother. But we decided to try Islands of Adventure this time. We haven't been since the Harry Potter stuff has gone in, and we were apprehensive because we were big lovers of Dueling Dragons. Honestly, Islands of Adventure is a great park with so many great attractions. If you want rides that have effort put into them, the same effort as Disney, but are a bit more thrilling than what Disney has to offer, Islands is my recommendation. So hopefully the new Universal park is more like Islands of Adventure, with thrilling and imaginative experiences. Once it's open they need to allocate funds to sorting out the main Universal park, because I think it's really weak and ruins Universal's opportunity to be able to truly compete with Disney.
@@CakeorDeath1989 Nintendo, DreamWorks and Harry Potter should be more than enough to carry Epic Universe, they should put all their efforts in making Universal Studios better once it opens in 2025. And just replace Simpsons with something else. It's right between World Expo and KidZone, that's a pretty subpar stretch of land.
Disney has completely forgotten about the simple cheap slow moving rides like yoshi or people mover! These rides are soooooooo important. They are relaxing, fun, adds movement to a stale land and they eat crowds. Galaxy’s edge needed a ride like this sooooooooo bad(not to mention waterfalls and/or water movement). Marvel land is missing this too. So glad universal realizes how important these rides are. Disney is sucking more and more while universal is getting better and better.
That's a great point. I used to enjoy the lower tier, smaller, non thrill attractions a lot. But they have disappeared at Disney over the years. They make great fillers between the super crowded rides and attractions.
Disney is depending on love for its ips to conquer all. I’m not a big fan of potter, but can understand its allure for others and will visit univ Orlando or Hollywood if only to see what’s what.
I agree slower atmospheric family friendly rides work well to increase overall ride capacity and bring in multigenerational groups. Actually a slow moving Star Wars ride could be incredibly cool imagine a bantha or luggabeast ride through a desert planet or an AT-AT/AT-ST vehicle trek through Hoth or Endor (actually make that one interactive to blast enemies of the Empire/First Order).
If Universal can launch this and not price families out with huge price increases I think they will win a lot of people from Disney. I’ve been going to Disney since I was a baby which was almost 40 years ago. I have high Disney loyalty. Engaged there. Honeymooned there. But I’m about done with Disney. They’re pricing me out and it’s too much of a headache to plan a trip.
We’re out of state and last did Disney in 2014. Looked at it last year and decided to go to universal instead, walked away with annual passes and are heading back down for our third trip next week.
Grew up in California and have early memories of Old DCA like my father does of Old Disneyland. My family had AP for over a decade, but as prices rose higher and higher(and maybe as I grew older and older), we went from going practically every month to every other month to once every three, once every four, semi-annually, biannually, the last time we went was before they closed the Rivers for Galaxy's Edge and we had felt that it just wasn't worth the price anymore. They didn't try to entertain with the new things, just sell you more and more things you don't need or want and the things you used to just do you now have to pay for. My father saw the A-E Ticket system rise, fall, and be reborn as Genie+ and he hates that it's a worse system than what they had with Fastpass
I’m in a similar situation as you. I was a loyal WDW fan for several decades and thought that would never change, but current Disney is Disney in name only. So much of the magic has been lost while the cost keeps climbing. I went to Universal instead last year.
I hope that Universal keeps implementing video game IP’s into their park. Nintendo land is definitely going to be a big deal for them. I would love an animal crossing section and a legend of Zelda section. Universal has done Halloween mazes for resident evil and silent hill before, I hope they realize how much of a draw these things are.
Would love to see a working relationship with Sony like Nintendo. If anyone's played the likes of Uncharted (which has one blockbuster film and will most likely be a film frachise), God of War, Horizon Zero Dawn, The Last of Us (which could be getting a HHN house this year) there's a lot to work with there.
@@mattwolf7698 and in 2021 universal studios Japan made a deal so at least in Japan we’re almost guaranteed a Pokémon land. Hopefully the US gets the same treatment.
The part about the Wizarding World being immersive: one of my favorite things is to witness people entering Diagonally for the first time. The looks of wonder on their faces is absolutely amazing and magical.
I was on the opening team for Hogsmead. I worked 2 years as a bartender at Hog's Head. It was truly magical. I think all the Wizarding World stuff is overdone and nothing is as detailed or as special as that first land was. (and still is) :)
I remember the first time I went to Universal Orlando and trying to find my way to diagon alley. I literally got lost walking around trying to find it, it was only when I asked someone how to get inside, they showed me the now, not so secret wall 😂 me and my sister were so amazed. it's honestly the best part of the park
You are hitting with the heavy weights like Defunctland and Yesterworld, and Happy Place Expolorers and it's damn impressive sir. Be proud of this work and how well executed it is
Corrections: 1. Towards the end of the video, I put the incorrect citations for two clips. The first is of the Ohyah Drop Slide and the second is of The Incredible Hulk rollercoaster. Both should be properly attributed to Universal Orlando Resort. 2. I stated that Disney leadership pre-Michael Eisner didn't see other attractions in Orlando as competition, but rather as helpful to their business. I mentioned Splendid China explicitly, thinking that it had been around since the 1970s but it actually opened in 1993 and therefore does not apply. 3. Into Theme Land pointed out that I was incorrect in stating that the Starflyer wasn't operated by Slingshot Group. For whatever reason, I thought that it was Merlin Entertainment, but it is definitely Slingshot.
I love how realistic the CGI traffic sim is of drivers in Orlando 😄 vans cutting over from the exit lane last minute, slamming on his brakes with no signals. Its spot on!
@@PoseidonEntertainment my fav part was when you tried walking on I-drive (I think) while filming and the red car clearly just says 'screw this guy' and pulls out into traffic. Orlando driver mentality in a nutshell.
I thought they recorded it in Grand Theft Auto or something. It was absolutely hilarious. It also reminded me of the Onion video about a high-speed busses line.
I hope Epic Universe is a success. I also hope that success is the wake-up call Disney needs to right their lazy ship; to see their chief competitor pushing the envelope and creating new and innovative attractions for customers while they're just giving the bare minimum with new attractions and giving their guests less while charging more and more. This will ultimately be good for park goers. We get a brand new theme park! And if Disney wakes up from their gluttonous stupor and respond to Universal's expansion in kind, then we get even more to experience.
Will they though? What's their response, a half-baked new ride in the Imagination Pavilion? They can't even finish landscaping in the middle of Epcot in a timely manner.
Their knee jerk reaction to Harry Potter in 2010 was quite hilarious, I remember it well. They ARE worried but the company has got seriously poor management and leadership, and now they’re getting themselves tied up in political wars. I think the penny is finally dropping that no one cares about Avatar, or Woke Star Wars, they need better creativity, better experiences and better IP’s. Universal went through a phase of building copy paste screen rides, remember. They’ve shook out of it. Disney will too, but they need to get Epcot and Hollywood Studios fixed first, then expand the two waterparks before finally committing to the 5th theme park and hopefully 3rd waterpark. Universal is catching up now with 3 parks and Disney has A LOT of work to do.
@@PoseidonEntertainment While you're right, and I agree regarding Disney's apparent incompetence in carrying out projects from concept to completion; Tron still isn't finished, no word on Splash Mountain's "re-imagining" into Princess and the Frog, Galactic Starcruiser, the debacle of Epcot's renovations etc. Yet, given all of that, I can't see Disney tolerating their continuing stumbling and fumbling as Universal unveils a new theme park with highly innovative, interactive and immersive attractions AND offering them to consumers at a more reasonable price. A relative just shared with me a deal Universal is offering: $80 per person for a 4-day pass - a great deal imo! Meanwhile, on a discount, I'm paying over $600 for 2 2-day tickets to WDW (going for a wedding). The general consumer, especially given the state of the US economy, will just shy away from WDW and take up deals such as the one Universal is offering - leaving WDW with only, what? Disney Adults? Disney will need a sobering slap like Epic Universe to make them aware of what's happening. Like I said in the original comment, we, the consumers win regardless. At the very least, we'll have a new theme park filled with new, inventive, and immersive attractions that push the envelope of physical entertainment. At most, we'll have 2 companies pumping out attractions and deals to get our attention. But the later point is a big IF on Disney's part. I love going to Disney and I don't want it to fail at all, but my dollar goes further elsewhere and I get a more engaging experience elsewhere, so I'll go to their competition. My hope is that Disney wakes up and realizes that people will get fed up with their parks' management and let them know with their wallets - the only language Disney understands, and we ultimately get better products and service from Disney.
It is indeed. I've never walked down by the Convention Center before I went to research the video, but it's just so well designed and pleasant to navigate. I feel that landscaping is often under-appreciated by most people and it was particularly well executed down there.
I had no idea Universal’s chunk of land was so massive. The monster themed area is particularly interesting to me. It would be fun if they went full Harry Potter and did it up as a fully immersive, monster infested, old world village.
There's a ton of potential, with Frankenstein's town acting as sort of a Hogsmead/diagon alley, and the castle Frankenstein acting as the main attraction with small and interactive elements and details set about, like if they added monsters throughout the town that only come out when prompted by a tourist
Been coming to Universal since 2005 but a AP since 2017. The changes I’ve seen the last 5 years have been nothing short of incredible. The rides, upgraded food, festivals, hotels, and friendly staff really make me happy to be a AP. They just seem to care a lot more about the whole experience and their pass holders compared to current Disney. I can’t wait to see what Epic Universe brings.
Every new ride from universal (except one, we all know which) has kicked ass. Disney on the other hand. Ehhhhhh. Their new rides have been kinda boring.
@@jrfree88 agreed they’re extremely overrated. Rise is overrated it’s just solid overall, GOTG is already being called the best ride at Disney (not realizing Haunted Mansion, Pirates, Spaceship Earth, Everest, and many other rides are all in the same resort) even though it’s just Gringotts HyperSpace Mountain 2.0 (although I haven’t ridden it yet, but it just looks solid)
@@nokrepkie I haven’t edited it since lol but I have been on the ride and it’s just solid fun. Nothing remarkable but I don’t think it’s anything super bad either. It’s just… there. And good enough…
Universal is truly becoming the peak of theme park experiences. I hope Disney addicts will see how much more practical and enjoyable Universal is, especially how its night and day when it comes to treating it’s guests and employees.
This! The parks alone are incredible but when you get hotel stays, HHN, and this new park, Universal is really ramping up. It's a great time to be a Universal fan!
@@HigherQualityUploads that’s the one part I’m hoping won’t drastically change but that may not be the case for Epic Universe especially with the Mario section. We’ll most likely see what happened with Hagrids happen for Epic Universe
It’s so strange to live in a timeline where Universal is possibly becoming the forefront for Central Florida entertainment. Disney has seemed too far up in the food chain for a long time, but Epic Universe could be the game-changer. This video was very well put together, earned my sub. Well done sir!
All in all, this is good for the consumer. Hopefully Disney doesn't rest on its laurels and invests more in the parks and allow the Imagineers to do something incredible! I'm disappointed on how Disney has been handling their parks in Orlando, specifically Epcot. Who knows? Maybe they'll learn. Super excited for Epic Universe and I hope it is extremely successful!
@@Rtp4k Hyperspace Mountain has been doing it for 5 years now, only real upgrade is the amount and size of the screens. The spinning is also done at Universal in Gringotts (2014) and Cobra’s Curse (2016) in Busch Gardens. A couple of coasters have also had a reverse launch, like Superman and Mr Freeze at Six Flags. It’s just the first time it’s been introduced to WDW is all really. Don’t get me wrong the ride still looks solid. It’s just not really advanced
Does it have a place in Epcot though? Theme wise it’s so out of place, Epcot at least in my head should by more about culture, tech and the betterment of humans not some movie ride
I truly think we might see universal beat Disney in our lives. Universal is doing what the fans want. Disney is doing the opposite. I really thought I'd never see it, but wow.
Disney is setting itself up for an epic crash. Companies that overexpand this much and lose connection with their core business eventually all crash and burn spactacularly. Let's just hope it won't be the end of disney. Would suck to see all the original ip being gobled up by some other big conglomorate.
Plus disney is getting more 'woke'. I hate using that term but it explains where it seems like they are heading. I'm all for everyone having a good time and feeling like they are part of the experience but there are ways of making that happen without shoving it in everyone's face.
I respectfully disagree. I like both companies however, Disney gives a more relaxing comfortable vibe as opposed to the excitement of Universal. It's almost like comparing Disney cartoons with the Warner Brothers cartoons (Bugs Bunny).
Love it when you cover Universal, this should be brought more to the attention of tourists! You even covered more of Orlando in general which I love to see as a Floridian!
I'm definitely trying to diversify the content a bit, that's partially why I did the Gatorland video last month. Still, I'm considering covering other Orlando attractions as well. I might do one on just Icon Park.
@@PoseidonEntertainment you’ve done Phantasialand, Gatorland, the weird Jesus Christ park, and even tackled regular Orlando tourism here. You’re certainly becoming one of my favorite channels with all this content, and are already on Yesterworld, Defunctland, and even Bright Sun Films level in my opinion. Keep at it man! 💯
This man literally comes out with my most wanted video topic. Thank you, I find this the most interesting development in the last 10 years of theme park history, with the other contenders being new fantasyland and wizarding world.
@@PoseidonEntertainment Here's the thing about New Fantasyland: the concept of revitalizing the magic kingdom was sorely needed. The park had a reliance on older attractions that while all classics, were not as much as a draw as they could be. Removing 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea and Mickey's Toontown, and replacing them with modern rides centered around classic characters like snow white, belle and Ariel is a great idea. What wasn't good about it was the timing. Disney timed the new additions with the new magicband system, leading to mass confusion and perception over the expansion. To be frank, I can't imagine Fantasyland without the extra theming from New Fantasyland today. It is a shame it is so tied to the magicband push.
@@PoseidonEntertainment this is a fascinating documentary. Thank you for producing this. I have always wondered why so much of Kissimmee has tanked. I look forward to seeing your vision of Orlando come to fruition.
@@Owser307 the New Fantasyland timing was bad because they build modern rides around old classics rather than modern rides around hot new films like Tangled and Frozen. By the time the realized what they had, all they could do is build new bathrooms and a meet and greet.
My husband designed a lot of the special effects in the Mario Land in Osaka. I hope the new park is basically a clone of that world because he said it's some of the best theming he has seen.
Universal will have added three parks since Disney added Animal Kingdom. Disney would rather just continue adding resort hotels with poor theming to further crowd their parks and water down the benefits of staying on property. I love Walt Disney World but Universal is clearly on the better trajectory. And Universal is doing this despite space constraints that Disney does not have. Imagine the expansion we'd see by Universal if they had a 40 square mile property to work with. Meanwhile Disney just sees that space as Vacation Club timeshare expansion potential.
It's frustrating how Disney has so much space that they could use to address capacity, yet they continue to replace attractions instead of erecting new buildings. It would be baffling if it wasn't so obvious that they just want to limit attraction upkeep costs. Disneyland has proven that they could really utilize their space if they really wanted to do so.
Disney is too big. It didn’t bother me much as a local used to just going in and out and only staying on property once or twice a year. But after staying at Universal starting in 2020, I appreciate how compact it is and how it’s so easy to get around.
Universal's "better trajectory" is CATCHING UP to where WDW already is. When this project is finished, Universal will have three theme parks, one water park, and, what, seven or eight hotels? Compared to WDW's four theme parks, two water parks, and 19 some-odd hotels, plus golf courses, race tracks, boating, and whatever all else there is to do there. Too many people in this sphere are too obsessed with the idea of Universal vs. Disney when they are two different companies facing two entirely different challenges. Disney's problem is managing a popularity that NOBODY, including Universal, is close to touching. Universal's problem is making themselves an attractive destination AT ALL.
@@CoryTheRaven within the next 10-15 years, Universal will have four theme parks, at least one water park, and around a dozen hotels in far less space.
Definitely hoping for the train to be rerouted into Orlando rather then Disney springs. Disney needs to learn it needs to play more friendly with it's neighbors and contribute to the infrastructure.
Currently the plan has been remade to take the route via the convention centre by the government expanding sun rail to provide this link with brightline leasing track access. Also to note from a recent presentation Disney Springs Station has become International Drive South (though in a similar location but maybe shifting slightly)
I know that one of the largest issues has been cost and time. If I recall correctly, Brayden at Mickey Views made the statement that the I-Drive route probably wouldn't even open until 2028 if the plans come through. Still, I believe I saw a recent article stating that with recent assessment, that particular route would cost substantially less than initially anticipated.
I am from orlando and i go to the rosen college of hospitality, and i just want to say this is an amazingly well done video. i am sending it to one of my professors to show their class! this topic is something we discuss in class and you covered it so incredibly well! especially the history of theme parks in orlando!
Island of Adventure is one of my favorite parks in the world even before Velocicoaster and Hagrid’s. In general I just think Universal has done so well with the parks that there really starting to become better than the Disney Park’s even coming from a Disney fan. Disney can return to the top once again however it might take some time.
Wow. This video taught me a LOT about what all Orlando has to offer that I didn't know about. And I've lived here for almost 2 years now! Excited for the future of the entertainment industry here.
This is so exciting for Universal and we can’t wait for this third park to open! My family has been a few times over the years and always have a wonderful experience. We visited Disney World for the first time last year and the experience was definitely disappointing. It was really expensive and the experience was not very good. The lines were so long that the first day we literally only rode 3 rides. That was with the added expense of Genie+. The last ride we had scheduled to ride broke down. The second park day at Epcot was slightly better but still congested with crowds. We did a park hopper day at Universal a couple days later and rode 10 rides and had the same great experience we always have. It was crowded but never felt suffocating. We have given up on Disney for now. Universal all the way for us!
Your criticism of WDW is fair and accurate. I've had enough of their parks for a long time, and their culture and politics disgust me anyway. I'm planning what, to me, will be a massive and epic trip centering around Epic Universe in 2025 or 2026. I can't wait for Super Nintendo World. I'm so mad borders have been closed and I've been unable to visit Japan and USJ.
While I know the park was planed pre 2020, I think that the opening of this park is going to help the area fully bounce back. Universal doesn't have the land ownership to create its own bubble like Disney does but I see that as a positive over a negative. People will probably spend more time at Universal hotels if they plan a day or two to do things in the area.
I completely agree, and I look forward to see that happen. As a consumer, I'm very much interested in seeing I-Drive get more attractions and interesting dining options.
I think Universal has its own nice tight bubble already. It’s a reasonable walk between the parks and most resorts which are great. That beats long drives or bus rides on Disney property although the Skyliner helps tremendously.
@@AdamSmith-gs2dv that wouldn’t take effect until next year and even when it does Disney will still own and operate a plot of land bigger than some major Florida cities. They’ll just have more red tape.
@@AdamSmith-gs2dv they still have the bubble in the sense that there is no reason to leave the disney owned property and if you don't have a car (or uber) you can't just walk or bus to somewhere else. The disney bubble is the idea that while you are visiting disney the rest of the world no longer exists
@Ninth Shinigami I have to agree with your comment concerning Universal can become the king of Orlando and best Disney. Disney is not going to get any better. I know I have stated this before but I used to love Disney, unfortunately the wokeness and the corporate bullshit that has set in with the Disney parks is ruining the experience. The people who actually cared about the experiences guests (Imagineers like Joe Rhode) had at the parks are long gone and have been replaced by money hungry corporate vultures whose only interest is increasing profits. I mean really in the grand scheme of things, its just entertainment and they have been laughing at us for some time, well before this political crap. They know that the demand for Disney parks isn't going anywhere, so they don't need to spend nearly as much money to "keep the magic" because people will come regardless. There's no alternative to Disney parks (that is until Universals Epic Universe opens). Since there is no competition and massive endless demand they can do what they want; Walt's edict that Disneyland (and WDW) would "never be finished" seems to have fallen by the wayside.
@@bjvincent8786 yea I agree. I try not to let the company’s involvement into politics and other social issues influence my views on them, but I can understand how it can “interfere” or mess with the market of tourists, potential consumers, and loyal guests. Disney has made such a name for itself tho that it really doesn’t look like it’s gonna be uncongested anytime soon (or at least until Epic Universe opens)
I have pretty high hopes for this park considering how strong their recent attractions have mostly been. Their Kung Fu Panda attraction at the Beijing park was surprisingly bad, but I'm inclined to think that it's a one-off.
It's fascinating to watch your videos (even tho I'm not really a "theme park person", never was) and see how Universal is slowly and surely pulling ahead of Disney in their land/park theming with IPs and accessibility. Disney will always have the clout chasing, ultra-wealthy park goers but more and more I'll bet the average theme park fan will consider Universal's parks "theirs", simply because they can actually get into it and not blow the savings of several lifetimes in the process.
This is one of the best comprehensive and informative videos for Orlando Tourism. I agree with your statements towards Disney's complacency and sloppiness. Universal is consistently getting a stronger grip on the rug Disney is perched on. When Epic opens, I truly feel like the rug will be yanked harder than Disney anticipates. Daily CM's are jumping ship to become TM's. I believe that flow will amplify for Epic's arrival.
With the staffing that they'll need and with how poorly Cast Members have been treated lately, I have no doubt that this will happen. I didn't think about it until you pointed it out, but I have to wonder if Disney might find itself in a labor crisis. I would think that they could make up a lot of their staffing with DCP, but Universal is also building that affordable housing complex. I have to wonder if they'll try something similar.
we are witnessing a transition in theme park dominance. it has been coming for many years, but universal has begun to catch on to disneys mistakes and hopefully disney will too. Universal should pull out all the stops with this new destination, and a modern ground up take on a theme park when all competition are decades old in structure, should put universal miles ahead, if done right, and should be jaw dropping to visitors.
The only thing that I find a problem, is getting people to and from both areas. I wonder if universal is looking at some type of transportation between islands and epic universe? Can you imagine a monorail style transportation that transports people to and from? Wow, that would be spectacular!
I believe that in conjunction with the local government, they are building dedicated bus lanes for use between Epic Universe and Universal Orlando/Islands of Adventure. That’s all that’s been announced so far.
This has been one of the largest pain points of the entire project, but I would assume they have a clever idea as they’ve had a decade almost to come up with an idea. Hoping it’s much different than surf side and dockside
@@matthewdunphy8524 last I saw, maglevs were up to 3x the cost of monorails, and only $10k per a mile less to maintain annually. When you’re talking about a $75k/mile budget annually, idk that upfront cost is enough to justify a a couple hundred k in savings and a nicer ride when you already expect to pay like $1mil
Man I love waking up to quality videos like this. Epic Universe looks incredibly promising. I've been to WDW twice but never to the Universal Orlando property, so Epic Universe makes me want to visit even more both as a coaster enthusiast and someone who enjoys the competition of the theme park industry.
Disney quality has gone down, while Disney prices have gone WAY up. Sad, folks used to get what they paid for at Disney, and much more though these days it's just a shell of it's former self. Universal is absolutely the new standard, can't wait to see what's in store for the future!
It's a bit surreal seeing my hometown through this lens. I remember seeing the Wizarding World getting built up since my school was right across the street ten years ago! I used to work on I-drive in my college years and I'm more used to experiencing that area as a worker rather than a tourist/visitor. I'm really excited about what's coming to i-drive in addition to the new park.
What is most interesting to me about epic universe is the physical footprint of it. the amount of space that epic takes up doubles the space that universal already has (correct me if i’m wrong) which is insane given how much city walk, islands, and studios already offers. On the subject of I-drive, i think more transit options will really complement the area, however they really need to think about opening the area to dense housing and other mixed use (parks, grocery stores, bars/nightlife) which would definitely give the area much more longevity as it would have a base population rather than only being supported by tourists.
I don't believe that Epic is significantly larger than the other parks if I recall? Most of the space north of it will be used for back of house expansion though. I do also believe that part of the I-Drive plan is to have more residential developments to the south, east of the Convention Center.
Agreed, I think the I-drive area has a good potential to develop into a little more than just simply a tourist area. Having housing would make things easier for workers not only in I-drive, but also in the Universal Parks.
I appreciate the really deep coverage of Orlando in display here, mentioning nearly every little new development. I think one challenge with transportation in Orlando is, it will always unfortunately be a not so walkable place. It's too hot for much of the year, with high chances of rain or storms. There's also the local challenges of having high prices in a tourism market yet low-wage jobs in fast food or entertainment. Florida is progressively raising its minimum wage but living costs are going to eat right into them. As more locals move farther away from Orlando proper, facing long commutes, road development will be constant, and if gas prices also continue to skyrocket, it will be more difficult to justify driving long distances for entertainment. Not to mention if any extreme hurricanes at the very least disrupt productivity, and at worst, devastate the city. It's amazing just how much Orlando has when it doesn't even have a coast like the other major cities in Florida.
" Florida is progressively raising its minimum wage"--I have had enough of progressives. Wages should rise and fall due to market forces, not be forcibly enacted by government. I do think there is a labor exploitation issue with tourist venues--but it is ALL tourist venues. Go to the National Parks, Deadwood, Wisconsin Dells, and you see the same thing--they import labor from Eastern Europe and now more and more Spanish speaking young adults.
Universal fan speaking here. Conquered both Universal and Islands of Adventure 10 separate times, and while it was fun half those times, the fun factor's definitely decreased because I practically know every ride by heart. Part of the fun of Universal was that blend of fear and excitement as you stared into the darkness ahead of you in the loading area, knowing that in mere seconds you'd be heading right inside...not having a clue what was waiting for you. As you can see, that kinda ruined it for me, even if I stopped going so often to let myself forget...and then slowly realized I couldn't forget the most important parts. With that said, I am ecstatic that Universal is expanding again. That means new adventures, new perils, new laughs... and I cannot wait to challenge Epic Universe and see what's in store for me there. EDIT: Another thing I love about Universal is that Universal plops you right into the middle of your own story. Yes, they lay the groundwork and the ending, but to someone as imaginative as me, there's some room for precisely what happens between you leaving the loading station and you returning to the exit. At Universal, YOU are the main character in your own adventure, as written and told by you. You KNOW you aren't in the real world anymore, as you are surrounded by the landscape of a place you know does't exist... but in that moment, it does. Instead of just being at a theme park, you're having a pint of Butterbeer with your buds at the Three Broomsticks, walking the streets of a comic-book metropolis come to life, getting up close and personal with a Velociraptor, or walking right through the Leaky Cauldron's rear wall and into Daigon Alley. Disney, however, has become so wrapped up in telling their classic stories they've forgotten to let their guests tell their own. What if, instead of, "Once upon a time, there was a princess..." like so many Disney films tend to go, the story began, "Once upon a time, there was a guest who went on an incredible adventure..."? Now, I will give credit where it is due; from what I've seen, Galaxy's Edge really helps with the immersion, but alas, one land out of dozens isn't enough to fix the problem that almost NONE of Disney's rides immerse the guest at all. The guest is merely a spectator in a glorified movie theater instead of a participant.
It certainly seems like they're willing to do so. Then again, I'm unsure of if Disney really cares if Universal takes their market share as long as guest spending goes up and compensates for the loss of attendance.
I am super excited for EPIC as some of my fav rides are within Universal and Islands of Adventure. The only reason I feel like Epic wouldn't make that big of a dent to Disney as a whole is because of the themes and properties. Nintendo is big! But how to train your dragon, universal monsters and fantastic beasts are lesser known and appreciated by the masses compared to Disney, Pixar, Star wars and marvel! Even if epic has the best rides I don't think the themes are that appealing
Ehh I feel like people don't care that much about the IP, people just want a cool and immersive experience. Disney was handily beating Universal when Universal was the "IP park" and Disney was the "original and creative attractions resort"
I see the point you're making, though I think that the Potter based land is more Fantastic Beasts "inspired" than it is actually based on the films. If rumor is true, then the British Ministry of Magic is the real attraction, which is certainly more identifiable. I have a feeling that Universal Monsters can get by without familiarity with the films, since so many of their portrayals have become the standard interpretations of the characters in pop culture.
we went last month...traveled from Texas ....stayed in a BnB and used lift ...this our first time to CHOOSE Universal over Dinsey and we had a GREAT week!!!
I love seeing growth in family and adult entertainment options, and I can't wait to get back to Orlando. It's always a relatively cheap and easy trip to plan and execute. Dedicated bus lanes is amazing, and hopefully that rail extension gets set up very soon.
Cheap? Are you sure? Compared to what? I mean, I rented an RV and drove across the entire US West and it was still less expensive than our trip to Disney/Universal in 2016.
The eighties to nineties Disney was definitely the top of their game. I was just there a few weeks ago and the new jedi adventure was ok but I walked 13.5 miles that day, through all of their crap that they tried to sell me just to get to the attractions I wanted to see in only 2 parks. Half of that walking was totally unnecessary, why couldn't the gondola drop me off at the back of the park if they're gonna put all of their best attractions back there....? In contrast Typhoon Lagoon was one of my favorite parks that trip, because it hadn't been overly commercialized and is still really just about having fun! Which is what all of their parks should be about...
Hey man I just wanted to say I love your content and it’s so nice to have a content creator focus on all aspects of theme parks then just Disney. Love the work your doing keep it up god bless
Past 15 years we stopped going to the mouse as we didn't like their offering anymore and no new attraction has enticed us to go back. There is just no value for us. But we always visit Universal Studios, buy an annual pass for our 2 month stay and love it.
your videos are SO informative and chill, i love your channel man keep it up! your channel gives us all a voice for a better standard in themed entertainment, and yeah universals future looks very bright, i actually hope to work with them one day! 🤞🏽
These are the most articulate, honest, and well argued videos on the themed entertainment industry that I've ever seen. I'm so excited every time I see you've dropped a new video, keep it up man!
I'll be visiting family in Orlando this fall and making a trip to Uni but definitely not Disney. I can't justify the cost of Disney especially in light of the decline in quality. It should not cost $75 for four meals at a quickservice or $500/night at a hotel that hasn't been refurbished in decades.
Honestly, you're still going to be spending $75 for four meals at a Universal quickservice. I would definitely avoid Comic Strip Café and Circus McGurkus. Granted, while Universal is for sure slowly improving on their food, there are some truly terrible options there.
We live 13 hours away, been to Orlando many times and have never been to Disney. We always go to Universal and Sea World. I’m excited for the new universal park. Thanks for the video.
Your videos are honestly amazing. Really well researched and really well presented. The way you mix fact and opinion are masterful. I'm so excited about Universal at the moment. Once they got the memo about saturating their parks with screen based attractions, they have been creating some amazing rides; beyond the obvious, Secret Life of Pets and the Jurassic World ride in China look amazing. Universal just seems to be this really exciting place that's on the up. I would honestly consider skipping Disney for my next trip if it wasn't for the new rides that I at least want to try. I found my last visit there stressful and fatiguing and it looks as if it's gone even more in that direction lately.
That's pretty much how I feel every time I go. I walk in, balk at the ridiculous wait times and wonder why they still haven't addressed their capacity issues and then ask myself "why am I even here?"
I'm so glad this park is coming into existence. It's shaking up the industry and bringing in new innovations variance to Orlando.Lets not forget the Area 15 and Orlando's urban style arts and cultural offerings as hopefully Camden market becomes a reality.
I’m really excited to see what Universal does going forward. My family is going on a trip to Orlando in a few months. Originally it was just going to be Universal but my brother’s girlfriend has never been to Disney so we tacked on a day at the MK and a day at Hollywood Studios. I had to explain how Disney Genie works and all the other new stuff that’s gonna be a headache.
For the first time ever, I’m considering not doing Disney in Orlando. This was once unthinkable for us. And while a lot of that is down to universal’s work, it’s mostly Disney driving us away.
I’ve heard rumors about a legend of Zelda themed land with Hyrule Castle and all. Would love to know your thoughts! Another amazing analysis vid as always 🙌
I've heard that as well, but I can't really see how it would make sense? The rumor I heard was that it was an eventual replacement for The Lost Continent, but they did just refurbish Poseidon.
@@PoseidonEntertainment Hyrule could be it’s own park with lands and attractions based on each region and it’s inhabitants based on Breath of the Wild. I’m hoping Zelda is the eventual expansion of Super Nintendo World or a replacement for The Lost Continent.
The problem with Universal is that it's heavy on big roller coasters and thrill rides, they have barely any non-IP attractions (other than Volcano Bay), and their IP, other than HP, do not have the pull or staying power of Disney's. For someone who doesn't enjoy The Simpsons or Secret Life of Pets nor big roller coasters, there is very little appeal (people like me or families with small children). Super Nintendo World, however, is going to change that, and I'm eagerly awaiting its opening!
That is something that I wish the parks would pivot to, adding more family and accessible attractions. I enjoy thrill rides, but I agree that slower, more atmospheric experiences would be welcome additions.
Have you been on Kong? Cat in the Hat? Minions? ET? Bourne? Gringotts? Spider-Man? They are great, but not intense at all. Then the mind blowing, ultra themed, intense, world class Harry Potter and Jurassic worlds and rides on top! I was so bored at Disney, but I keep coming back to Universal every year because I can’t stay away. The fact that Hagrids and Velocicoaster exist while Disney has scraps is embarrassing.
I spent two days in Disney and two in Universal in 2019. I can honestly say I loved the Universal experience so much more. If I have the chance to go back, I don't think Disney will make the must-see cut.
I’m most excited for the httyd land. I think it has a lot of potential. I just hope it doesn’t come across as tacky or feel overly jam packed with merchandising (if that makes sense) I’m hoping for Joe Rohde level theming here
Great video! I just did a 4-day trip only to Universal as it is now and had 100% better of a time than going to Disney World in previous years. I really do think Universal is just doing a much better job with its attractions, innovations and over all park experience.
Wanted to let you know how impressed I am with your video, very well spoken, very professional, serious enough but also light enough to keep someone listening. You seem to know the area very well and hope you keep up the great work.
My wife and I had our best ever Disneyland trip in 2021 during the lockdown, it was empty, limited to CA residents only. This last trip to Dland was horrific 2 weeks ago. We will likely not use our magic pass the rest of the year we have. It was so packed with 2+ hour waits for everything. I feel like their big push now is to sell us as much junk in the gift shops as possible with the newer rides being pretty meh. Spiderman is especially cheap and quick feeling. I'll give them Rise of the Resistance because if feels unique. Smugglers run though has had crappy runs. When little kids control the falcon it's not enjoyable at all. They are crashing constantly causing the screen to flash and go crazy.
I went to Disneyland in March and it was quite crowded as well. Still, I found that it handles capacity far better than any of the WDW parks. The smaller, lower tier attractions really help a lot. DCA could definitely use some more though.
I got back from a trip to Disneyland yesterday, it was SO packed! We had Genie + because we are from out of town and didn't want to miss anything. Why are they so crowded? Is it because of all the things that are closed?
If you have small children Disney is a must. As an adult I much prefer Universal. I had a 1 year pass to both parks but walked Universal more often than Disney. International drive also has outlet malls, and a convention center
I’m actually going to Florida soon and I’m doing both (except Magic Kingdom), but my main focus is Universal. I even got a room at the Adventura hotel and from what I’ve seen it looks really good, also quick access to Universal Citywalk too.
It's so wierd seeing locations I visited and still drive by when I was a kid. I always visited Orlando from Miami as small vacations and walked passed all these places and know them like the back of my hand. It's so cool that Orlando is FINALLY getting more global attention. With magic universe coming soon, I can't wait to see it expand
They are all missing the biggest possible improvement to park experiences - SITTING in the lines instead of standing. You should be able to get in line and SIT in a seated people mover. If people were seated they would buy more food and there could be seated games and activities you could do. It eliminates the “we are so exhausted we are crabby and just want to leave” syndrome.
@@BlahBlah-id4vw They have to get a handle on the crowds somehow. Either cap daily entrance or something. Disney is a victim of its own success and like when we went one year right after Christmas, we got on like 4 rides the whole damn day. It was totally ridiculous, but expected due to the holiday, but now every day is like that!
@@bb5242 Universal does have a handle on their crowds. If you stay are on of their three main resorts you get access to their express pass lines. Using those you can easily ride every ride in both Universal and Islands of Adventure in just two days if not less.
I think you've hit the nail on the head, Epic Universe will really raise question on which resort will be my base, and which will be secondary. From the very beginning Disney was number 1, and you'd make an effort to visit Universal for a day or two. With Epic Universe, people may genuinely switch up there plans, spend most of there time at Universal and maybe do a day or two at Disney. Will be interesting to see what happens.
This is a great video!! This is more of a: What do to do in Orlando- and I already have a small list down thanks to your video! I've been to the MEOWWOLF in Vegas and it is an incredibly immersive experience! I didn't know they were in development for a location in Orlando- so to hear that will definitely be a stop for me when I travel to Florida! Thanks Poseidon!!
@@timothybernardi68 only Flight. Rise is very overrated and it certainly seems like Guardians will be so as well (not the best ride in a resort that has Haunted Mansion, Pirates, Everest, Splash, Spaceship Earth, and many more better attractions). If they’re trying something, it’s to entice people solely on popular IP
@@timothybernardi68 when I said that’s what they’re trying, I literally meant it as that. That’s all Disney is really trying to do. They’re waving the IP in your face hoping that it’s popularity and financial success will entice us the consumers to go and love the attraction JUST because it’s based off said property. Universal does this too there’s no doubt. Heck, the whole park is IP. The difference is Disney is trying to market and ONLY profit off the IP and it’s status instead of actually trying to do anything with it. Universal is actually trying, and you can see their efforts in the attractions. Bourne had no reason to be as good as it was, yet it is. Neither did Secret Life of Pets which although the first movie made 875.5 M, the sequel only made half that, which shows a clear drop in attention towards the film franchise. Still Uni decided to put their all into it.
@@timothybernardi68 WDW is not as outstanding as before. Uni wasn’t a few years back, but they’re certainly now. Most of what WDW has done has been solid or decent. That is just my personal opinion, but they’re really not that incredible once you ride them a few more times. Flight is outstanding tho, another point I will agree with. Rise has an outstanding queue, but the ride could be much better. Cosmic I will hold any actual criticism till I actually ride it.
@@timothybernardi68 You can have bright spots in an otherwise dull recent record. I'll give you an example from way back. Remember when each resort had their own uniquely themed refillable mug? Those were great and highly collectible. Now everything is just the same product manufactured for as many people as possible. It's generic. It's boring. It's uninventive.
Orlando has so much potential to be an incredible and ultimate destination for tourism, I didn't know about all the entertainment you could find outside Universal and Disney!
I really doubt it honestly. The political situation in Florida and other US red states is genuinely terrifying, the Republicans are turning into the American taliban. Not even Disney was safe from their insanity when Disney spoke out against Desantis! Fact of the matter is, the majority of people who enjoy these parks and go to these parks are more liberal minded people and none of us wanna go to a place run by ya'll queda. Specially after the Republicans freaked out against Disney, I couldn't have fun at these parks cause I'd just be afraid some insane Trumper is come charging through the front gates brandishing an AR-15. And this is all a gigantic turnoff for international tourists. No one outside the US wants to go to a place where we've seen nothing but horrible politics and mass murder for the past 10 years pretty much. And none of what I'm saying is going to improve at any point, its only going to get worse and further drive people away from flying to the United States. So I just don't think its really worth investing too much more into places like Orlando when the political situation is so bad.
I'm fine with parks being expensive as long as it feels like the cost goes towards maintenance and substantial attraction improvements. It may be expensive, but you're getting what you paid for.
@@timothybernardi68 I don't know? Some increase proportional to the value I suppose. I don't buy tickets, but their annual pass increases haven't been unreasonable for the investment that they're seeing.
Great video! Yeah a lot is going to change in Orlando, more competition, it's gonna be cool to see the new changes. And of course I'm super excited for the new universal park!
Now if only UO will build their version of a super themed DVC on property! THAT will make major inroads, especially if there's direct access to a park and Potter-level theming. Who wouldn't want to sleep at Hogwarts and eat in luxury at the Great Hall with floating candles? Ohhhh, print that money!
While I think that the idea of a Hogwarts hotel is incredibly strong, I just don't think that it's feasible with the space they have, even on their other campus. Still it's interesting to speculate on what something like that might look like.
Comcast can invest a lot into their parks because they are one of the biggest companies in the US. Disney on the other hand is just a small business so you can't blame them for leaving their parks to stagnate for 20 years. /s
Idk what you’re talking about, Comcast is worth $191b while Disney (an entertainment company) is worth $185b. Disney can invest just as much as Comcast they’re just lazy
These updates bring me so much joy because my mom and I had some of our best memories at Universal together. As adults it was our time to really be kids again and enjoy each other’s company in such a fun environment. Disney just made us fight and get stressed 😂 Now I have a son and my mom and I are already making plans for when he’s older. My dad isn’t into any of this, sadly 😭
Universal Studios had approached Disney about cooperating on a Studio attraction, and rather then do it as a joint effort, Disney decided to run with the idea, and do it on their own. Disney could have had the Harry Potter land, since J. K. Rowling had approached them, but Disney said they would take complete control, and her input wasn't needed. Frustrated, she went to Universal about this, and their response was, they were really willing to work with her. If Disney falls behind Universal, they only have themselves to blame.
Universal for me is my primary destination. And Disney is now my second. Over the past few years I have spent most of my time going to the universal parks and not even going to Disney parks. Now with the building of epic universe I would want to go to do universal parks first and if I have time maybe squeeze in a Disney park. I hope that epic universe is everything that it Canby. Thank you for the video and the info.
@@PoseidonEntertainment Certainly a way to say that their policies bled their talented staff.
Oh-ho! That explains a lot.
same is happening with Universals creative for halloween horror nights- theres a lot moving to seaworld- so its becoming an interesting world for creative expansion
Excellent point!
Its okay if you're like me and want to plan far in advance. But if you just want a spur of the moment trip, you have to do UO
I’ve been a lifelong Universal fan and always preferred it to Disney even as a child. The resort has grown so much over the past few years and they’re doing such a great job of utilizing new technology while also keeping nostalgia alive. Can’t wait for Epic Universe
I’m a Disney fan too, but I’m almost never excited for new offerings from Disney, and it’s just a different feeling being at Disney parks.
U actually put it perfectly. It's the same for me and I WORKED at Disney!🤣
They panicked so they rushed but they also cut budgets ... And when you bring in politics, it's really coming to haunt them
Disney is depending on love for its ips to conquer all.
@@daa589 Politics?
I'm hoping it makes Disney lower their prices.
@@mattwolf7698 I don't think Disney will lower prices even if they're losing money..... their ego won't let them.
If anyone's played the likes of Uncharted (which has one blockbuster film and will most likely be a film frachise), God of War, Horizon Zero Dawn, The Last of Us (which could be getting a HHN house this year) there's a lot to work with there.
i would love an animal crossing land
Pokemon seems like a no brainer to include, especially since it's somewhat WB related and Universal parks already have a lot of WB stuff.
@@mattwolf7698 and in 2021 universal studios Japan made a deal so at least in Japan we’re almost guaranteed a Pokémon land. Hopefully the US gets the same treatment.
An animal crossing park would be a huge huge draw to young people, that would be exciting
The part about the Wizarding World being immersive: one of my favorite things is to witness people entering Diagonally for the first time. The looks of wonder on their faces is absolutely amazing and magical.
The amount of people saying “is that the bathrooms?” is also hilarious.
@@mt-pockets3798 Which is odd because there are bathrooms just outside the entrance in their own standalone building.
I was on the opening team for Hogsmead. I worked 2 years as a bartender at Hog's Head. It was truly magical. I think all the Wizarding World stuff is overdone and nothing is as detailed or as special as that first land was. (and still is) :)

I literally got lost walking around trying to find it, it was only when I asked someone how to get inside, they showed me the now, not so secret wall 😂 me and my sister were so amazed. it's honestly the best part of the park

I was watching through it and I also observed how ridiculous it was.
@@PoseidonEntertainment my fav part was when you tried walking on I-drive (I think) while filming and the red car clearly just says 'screw this guy' and pulls out into traffic. Orlando driver mentality in a nutshell.

@@PixPete I know some people who are excited for Avatar 2. Also, I do think Star Wars is going downhill but Galaxies Edge was packed when I was there.
@@mattwolf7698 I know some people who enjoy standing barefoot on lego bricks. The majority don't, however.
This is fascinating! I’m thrilled to hear that Universal is working with Orlando City planning. More green spaces and walkability is a huge win!
I feel like this will never happen simply due to brand recognition. “Disney” is too powerful a word to beat.

This man literally comes out with my most wanted video topic. Thank you, I find this the most interesting development in the last 10 years of theme park history, with the other contenders being new fantasyland and wizarding world.
New Fantasyland? Interesting. I perceive it as a huge loss of potential. What are your thoughts? Maybe now is the time to do a ten year retrospective.
I'm pretty sure it is, which is fine with me. The Osaka one looks fantastic, so I'm definitely excited to see it here.
@@wt7553 cool, so it will be like a cramped, noisier version of WDW .

Island of Adventure is one of my favorite parks in the world even before Velocicoaster and Hagrid’s. Having lived there for decades and thankfully not anymore, I can tell you Orlando is a hellhole. Get out while you’re still able!!!!!
You mean that Disney USED to have. Remember that Ron DeSantis has revoked it

@@PoseidonEntertainment the labor crisis would be a great topic for another video. Disney does not seem willing to compete for talent.
we are witnessing a transition in theme park dominance. it has been coming for many years, but universal has begun to catch on to disneys mistakes and hopefully disney will too.
Universal should pull out all the stops with this new destination, and a modern ground up take on a theme park when all competition are decades old in structure, should put universal miles ahead, if done right, and should be jaw dropping to visitors.
They need to something revolutionary, not "just another theme park."
They have a bus line for now. Monorail would be awesome though
The bus lanes are for this task.
@@PoseidonEntertainment i think the total footprint of epic including backstage will double universal property
Well said and I agree.
Universal will come in top in 10 years if Comcast is willing to put the money
It certainly seems like they're willing to do so. Then again, I'm unsure of if Disney really cares if Universal takes their market share as long as guest spending goes up and compensates for the loss of attendance.
Great video! I am very excited about Epic Universe! Enjoyed seeing all the other fun things to do in Orlando you highlighted too.
Disney was handily beating Universal when Universal was the "IP park" and Disney was the "original and creative attractions resort"
i swear i thought i was the only one who was like how to train your dragon..?? that movie is beyond irrelevant lol
This seems more interesting than the Disney Parks. I would like to visit Universal Parks.
Aye, Disney just hasn't really built anything that excites me since Everest. I will say that Pandora surprised me, but that's about it.
Roller coasters are so much fun. Can't wait to visit this new park.
your videos are SO informative and chill, i love your channel man keep it up! your channel gives us all a voice for a better standard in themed entertainment, and yeah universals future looks very bright, i actually hope to work with them one day!
$75 for four meals is pretty standard anywhere nowadays.
@@wt7553 Try $100--The prices have soared since 2021.
We live 13 hours away, been to Orlando many times and have never been to Disney. We always go to Universal and Sea World. I’m excited for the new universal park. Thanks for the video.
As always a quality production. Thanks for all the work you put into your videos.
Thanks, I'm glad that you enjoy
Spent five days at Universal last week. Loved it. Cannot wait for the expansion.
The nail in Disney's coffin. Given how Chapek and his cronies have abused the loyal Disney fans, Universals reign is long overdue.
@@Meatball2022 oh it’s the guy who’s on Disney’s payroll. You’re still around on this channel?
@@Meatball2022 Disney made 8 billion in 2019. Most of those profits are from movies. My point stands as their theme parks are going in the shitter.
CAN'T WAIT FOR EPIC UNIVERSE!
The Genie/everything on your phone thing is such a weird flex.
If I have the chance to go back, I don't think Disney will make the must-see cut.
hey your channel is very informative and nice, earned a sub
I’m most excited for the httyd land. I think it has a lot of potential. I just hope it doesn’t come across as tacky or feel overly jam packed with merchandising (if that makes sense) I’m hoping for Joe Rohde level theming here
Great video! I just did a 4-day trip only to Universal as it is now and had 100% better of a time than going to Disney World in previous years. I really do think Universal is just doing a much better job with its attractions, innovations and over all park experience.
Been waiting for this video!! I love the way you present theme parks!
Thanks, I'm glad that you enjoy
Love your videos! I appreciate all the hard work you put in to them. Well done!
Let's just take a time to appreciate the effort this man puts into his videos
They are all missing the biggest possible improvement to park experiences - SITTING in the lines instead of standing. You should be able to get in line and SIT in a seated people mover. If people were seated they would buy more food and there could be seated games and activities you could do. It eliminates the “we are so exhausted we are crabby and just want to leave” syndrome.
That sounds incredibly expensive.
@@bb5242 And yet you keep going. That’ll show ‘em!
This is one of your best videos. Thank you !
It all comes to one thing, Universal cares for their customers and kids. Disney only loves their dollar. Now I plan to go to Orlando.
Fantastic video, look forward to a new Universal park, I hope to one day visit it in a few years time
This is a great video!!
I ride hagrids roller coaster! Insane fun! I was lucky enough to be on the front row also!
Anything to get the Imagineers/Disney Corporate to start trying again is great in my book.
I love how professional you keep your videos. thanks again
Orlando has so much potential to be an incredible and ultimate destination for tourism, I didn't know about all the entertainment you could find outside Universal and Disney!
There's a lot more than I touched on. Fun Spot, Dezerland, etc. I suppose you could even throw zoological exhibits like Gatorland in there.
Excellent video also super informative, excited to see some of these things as I’m going in about a month
This video has been on my recommended for like 4 days and I finally decided to click it. Glad I did! Great video!
Universal should continue to give a good theme park/resort experience for a reasonable price instead of charging an arm and a leg for a balloon
@@timothybernardi68 why do you keep spamming that question lol

I'm in! When's potions class
Great video Poseidon. I hope I get to go to Orlando someday to experience the parks there
Comcast can invest a lot into their parks because they are one of the biggest companies in the US.

Hahahaha!
These updates bring me so much joy because my mom and I had some of our best memories at Universal together. As adults it was our time to really be kids again and enjoy each other’s company in such a fun environment. Disney just made us fight and get stressed 😂
Now I have a son and my mom and I are already making plans for when he’s older.
I am genuinely very curious to see what Disney's response to Epic Universe will be... if they have anything planned.
Moana Journey of Water. Inspired by water a young Walt Disney would play with.
