#melaniemartinez #k12 #afterschoolep
Though the theme of k-12 (the standard version) is primarily the situations and settings of school and seeing it as being a much more condensed version of society and what we go through, I also see this album having political undertones, especially with how melanie wrote "The Principal" being about abuse of political and supreme power (Donald Tr*ump), as well as "Wheels on the Bus" being about how many people choose and activity ignore societal and political problems and pretend that they can't do anything about it nor speak about it.
So i organized the songs from the after school ep and their meaning for you :)
AFTER-SCHOOL EP
Notebook- an unfulfilling relationship/giving them tips for their next relationship
Test Me- accepting the challenges of life to build strength and wisdom (so like being tested)
Brain & Heart- saying "don't rely on only your heart and only your brain to make a decision"
Numbers- being treated as waste while feeling overworked and underpaid
Glued- attachment and detachment (when you’re completely attached you have the potential to get hurt but you are able to feel the depth of love. when you’re detached you save yourself from potential hurt but never get to feel that level of love)
Field Trip- the intricacies of Melanie as a person (like her spiritual beliefs)
The Bakery- hating her job at a bakery to raise money (so more of a straightforward personal song)
edit: hope this helps!!
5:34 I laughed so hard at this cause I knew what was coming later 😭
(I highly recommend watching the movie when you can, the songs are all in the movie and it’s really good)
Edit:
I read somewhere that The Principal is about Donald Trump, the current president at the time. Also if it wasn’t obvious, Principal is also a play on words with “principle” (“Oh where’s the principal / principle)
I just realized the “icing” in strawberry shortcake is a metaphor for girls wearing make up and dressing up, because the actual girl is the “cake”
I think that's why she says "where's the principal" because after creating problems, he is not here to solve them
I get, the first time i heard after school EP i hated all the songs but the bakery, but now after school is my favorite melanie's album and its just an EP 😭
Fun fact! Melanie's parents were supposed to name her Katerina (idk how to spell it) which means light but they decided to name her Melenie, which means dark.
The spilt hair😍
@@whispheriaaoh yeah! Bright and dark sides
There is one more song called "fire drill" in k-12 which plays in her credit scene in the movie
I love fire drill even if it's just a single
Also dont worry about crying during OJ Melanie cries when she sings it live too. She wrote the song that would help other like her.
in america (or some states) schools get payed for attendence rates
You know Melanie's writing evolved from k-12 to After School because the way that her writing got deeper is insane. I literally took so long to even understand brain and heart and I still don't fully understand Test Me
The class fight reaction threw me off so much
Ps. I laughed so hard that my younger sister thought i was dying.
A cool thing about this album is that there's 13 tracks, Track 1 for Kindergarten, Track 2 for first grade, and so on! (I'm not American idk if kindergarten is meant to be first I just think so😭)
I'm American and here it goes preschool (if you want, that's just to learn how to listen in a school setting basically and is like a daycare ) kindergarten is learning how to read and stuff, then it gets to 1st grade and so on
the bakery is the song I dance around my living room and listen to when I’m home alone
I love your reactions girlll you are just💖💖
YESSS, THE QUEEN IS BACKKK 💗
omg I was not expecting you to react to the after school ep 😍
and yeah those songs are a little harder to get, but they're so good 😅💗
Anyways the album its not whole about school
Its about society, her life etc..
So u got show & tell right
Love your reactions😍😍😍
Lunchbox friends is about crybaby talking to kelly and kelly trying to make her into a bully or a barbie but Melanie doesn’t want that she wants a good friend
Love you're commentary!
you should watch the k-12 movie
will do 🤍🤍
the song "the principal" is a critique about a president of the EUA
I love ur vids now im a new sub
you should 10000% listen to silence between songs by madison beer. i know you will love it + they’re both really good friends lol. when melanie released portals she was there at the release party and when madison released sbs melanie was at madison’s release party.
